ExMinion OfDarkness
Mausoleum of the Emperor

Welcome to Field Spell week! All this week, we'll be looking at various field spells and how they impact the game/if they're any good at all. My ratings will be a bit different for this week, as usually spells requiring a theme automatically get 5/5 in their own decks and 1/5 everywhere else, but I'll be rating the playability of the theme the field spell forces this week to make it more fair.
(For those looking for Traditional ratings, all but Friday's card get 1/5 there, as none of these field spells are powerful enough to stand up to the broken cards available there.)

This is pretty much the best non-Chimeratech related card we got in Power of the Duelist. It enables a player running lots of high-level monsters to throw them out without Tributes by paying LP. Both players can use the effect, but odds are only the player who actually played Mausoleum will want to. More often than not, a random opponent will only have Monarchs, and if you summon a Monarch through Mausoleum, it wasn't Tribute Summoned, and it won't get its effect and becomes just a 2400 ATK beatstick.

There are so many monsters that get passed up because of Tribute cost that can see play now.

The big problem being that you are only gaining card advantage once you use the effect twice -- the first time, it's just a field spell + a monster + 1,000 LP instead of a monster + tribute fodder for that monster. I've yet to see how a deck focusing on this will play, especially in a format that has Ring of Destruction as a staple, and Magic Cylinder/Ceasefire as inclusions in either main or side in most other decks.

For now, I give the deck idea a 3.5/5 for future potential, but let's see what happens at SJC Boston before deciding anything big on this card's playability.

Dark Maltos
Mausoleum of the Emperor

Well, welcome to Field cards week. Guess what we’re gonna be reviewing today?

In Yugioh, generally field cards are seldom played, partly due to the fact that they generally have no immediate effect on the playing field in terms of cards, and are very vulnerable to s/t destruction. In fact, if you are ever to run a field card in your deck, you’d best have the best reasoning to do so. This week we’ve complied a short-list of some of the best out there. Today’s card is certainly very interesting.

MotE has already played a prime role in my OTK involving Ojama trio, final attack orders and Ultimate Tyranno. It’s also bound to make an appearance in a few certain decks revolving around a certain couple of two tribute Spirit Monsters. Essentially, at the cost of 1000 lp per tribute, you don’t have to use tributes for a higher level summon.

This can give a load of new potential to decks previously dismissed as rubbish, and can allow you to hit with some powerful monsters relatively easily. As with all the cards this week, MotE is also searchable via Terraforming, and is therefore a worthwhile addition to any deck that can make use of it. I’m sure that there are many combos with this, and many more to come in the future.

The only downside , to be honest, is the lp investment. Life points are becoming an increasingly volatile resource lately, what with the up rise of Ring of Destruction and even Ceasefire to virtually every deck. Proceed with caution.

Traditional ; 2/5
Advanced ; 3.5/5

Art :
MPS ; 4/5 I’m all for tribute reductions.

Mausoleum of the Emperor

Now this is an interesting field card. Unlike some of the crappy ones of the past this one has potential. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one tested in a phoenix deck, a simple 2k drop to bust out the phoenix. Another potential major use is with Dark Magician of Chaos, 2000 to get him out and to grab a spell back? It could be a potential boost that spellcasters could see benefit from.

Aside from that, several of the minor archetypes could see benefit, from making it easier to get out their primary tribute monsters, but I don’t see them as having a major impact on the meta.

MotE does run into the traditional downsides of cards like it, situationality (no that isn’t a word). Essentially this could just end up being a dead card at the wrong time. Other downsides include that Monarchs wouldn’t get their effects, and the opponent can use it. This is especially dangerous if for some strange reason they run Cyber Dragon, because it would allow for further extension for game. The most major draw back is that every 1K you pay, is 1K less that Stein will have to remove from you lp before you die, at the same time though, opponent’s running Stein won’t always be willing to use it.

Another double-edged sword. It can be used to win games, or can be used against you.

Advanced: 2.3/5

Ryoga
Mausoleum of the Emperor:
Feel the combo support. Feel it.

Masusoleum is a gutsy card, to say the least. My puzzles and certain obscure deck types can benefit from it's power. The accepted cost of a card is ~1800 LP, so at 1000 per tribute, you've got a bargain.

Now, you can't use it with the Monarchs (since they require a Tribute Summon), but DMoC is a fine target.
I'd say Spellcasters have the most to gain from this, since they have the most tributes, but I'm sure the other reviewers will have better ideas.

Pippin Mausoleum of the Emperor

1000 LP per tribute is steap but it makes all those huge 2 tribute monsters playable again. Blue Eyes decks got a boost, but now for the bad news.

- It does NOT trigger the monarchs
- You cannot pay 1000 LP for anything other than a monster summon. No effects can be triggered by paying 1000LP.
- Being a Field Magic it will not last long on the field.

Bottom Line:
Traditional - 3/5 (in a deck built around it) Advanced - 4/5 (in a deck built around it)

Art: 2/5 - nothing too spectacular.

Until Next Time, DAH! You threw off my groove!

Mausoleum of the Emperer

Basic Summary: Good to see BobDoily posting CoTD reviews again

This weeks theme is Field-Spell ( you know the upper left slot we rarely use =/ ) and we start the week with one of the better ones released in PotD. Now much like " Royal Opression " the effect is open to both players soo that is one major drawback since 1000 LP for Jinzo isn't something you want. Now there are some cards which can greatly benefit from this card like for example " Dark Magician of Chaos " or " Ancient Gear Golem " just to name a few.

Conclusion: I was thinking of this card lately since I'm building an Ancient Gear Golem deck for a friend but if you have a tribute heavy deck this card can greatly improve your odds on getting them out.

Traditional Format > 1/5: Just too many Spell/Trap removal to make this thing effective in my opinion.

Advance Format > 2/5: If you run many high tribute monsters then I highly suggest this card.

Artwork > 3/5: I like the artwork it reminds me of ancient cultures.

Mausoleum of the Emperor

Today we look at Mausoleum of the Emperor from the PoD set. And its a field card, something we dont see in mainstream decks.

So you have to pay 1000 LP x how many monsters it takes to pay to bring out monster(normal summon/set). Its not that bad, but in a format like this, LP are really important since most people will try to swing big with big monsters to decrease your LP quickly.

Its certainly a cool field card, but just dont throw it into a deck, and hope it works wonders, cause it wont. Make a deck of its own, and it could do good.
