Book of Moon...a card we haven't looked at in about 18 months. Book of Moon lost a lot of power with the Banning of Magician of Faith. One of its trademark moves was to flip Magician of Faith, retrieve a Magic card, and then Book of Moon to reuse her later. Is it still good?

Book of Moon vs. Shrink...discuss I believe such an argument would take an article or two to completely discuss, but I will do the best I can here.

Book of Moon still has a lot of combo potential, outside of Magician of Faith. Book of Moon laughs in the face of certain cards like Ring of Destruction and Mirror Force. Switch your only face up monster face down to negate either can really annoy the opponent.

Flipping an opponent's monster to Nobleman it next turn can be equally annoying, or switch it face down for defensive purposes to destroy it next turn. Book of Moon is so versatile, and it can be used for quite a lot.

But then, look at Shrink. If you use that on your opponent's monster, and it isn't twice as strong as yours, you destroy their monster, assuming they don't add a Magic or Trap card to it.

Book of Moon :
I remain impressed they haven't printed any more books. Whenever a card is good they seem to love printing horrible alternate versions.

I don't know how things go elsewhere, but I still like Book of Moon as it remains one of the most versatile cards in existence. It stops attacks, makes big monsters easier to attack to death, reuses flip effects, negates Snatch Steal, and oh so much more. On its own, it isn't much use but the sheer number of cards it assists makes it worth including in most decks in my opinion.

Book of Moon

4/5

The ability to reuse flip effects, stop an attack, shut down ring of destruction/snatch steal/brain control/smashing ground/etc. grants a player versatility. Lets no forget attacking with spirit reaper into our opponents set Mirror Force and saving the reaper for another time:)

Versatility is what this card grants us and as such it is one of the best spells available in this and almost any format!

Today we look at a card that has been run in 3’s, but then got restricted due to how good it was….

Book of Moon
Quick Play Spell
Flip 1 face-up monster on the field into face-down Defense Position.

Well, a very simple effect, and it’s a quick play. It can do a variety of things for just about any deck. It can put that Sangan the opponent summoned, thinking they had a guaranteed hit, face down. Setting it up for the Nobleman of Crossout they thought they were avoiding. It can be chained to a Mobius, making it easy to kill. Or, as always, it can be used to stop an attack. This and many other uses make this a great offensive card.

It can be a great defensive card as well though. If the opponent uses Smashing Ground, Sakuretsu Armor, Lightning Vortex, Mirror Force, Bottomless Trap Hole, or Ring of Destruction, you can chain Book of Moon. Putting a monster of value face down, avoiding your opponent’s card effect that only works on face up monsters. You might lose a different monster, but hopefully it’ll be worth it. And if that monster was a flip effect monster, you just got to re-use the effect. I remember doing this to Magician of Faith all the time.

It doesn’t give you any advantage on its own, but it opens up a world of possibilities, some of which I mentioned above. I wouldn’t say this has a spot in every deck out there, but it certainly belongs in a lot of them.

Ah, Book of Moon, so many memories. And all of them good. Book of Moon is one of the most versatile cards in the game, but unfortunately that has cost it. Its heavy use during the goat control era led to it being restricted, and even with the banning of the key components behind that archetype this support card remains unnecessarily restricted.

I won’t bother going into all of Book of Moon’s uses, we’d be here to long. But as the Meta has progressed its play time has seriously decreased. More and more people are shifting over to Enemy Controller for various reasons, leaving Book of Moon unfortunately in the shadows. Regardless it’s still viable, and stills a great support card.
