Dark Paladin
Who ever heard of banning a Fusion Monster anyway? Metamorphosis use to be Godly...not unstoppable, but one hell of a card none-the-less as it spawned a whole new decktype, then known as the Morph. You could Morph a sheep token, Magician of Faith, or Treeborn Frog into Thousand Eye Restrict. However, piece by piece, the Morph deck was torn apart.

On the recent Forbidden/Limited list, Metamorphosis was sent down the list a bit, now you can use two copies if you want. Why? It isn't really a problem anymore. People weren't using it last format, but it still has potential, even without Thousand Eye Restrict.

You can still Morph a Cyber Dragon of a Zaborg into Batler.
Metamorphosis obviously works best when you have a Level 5 or higher monster on the field; as generally the higher the monster's Level, the better Fusion you can bring out.

Ratings:

I still give Metamorphosis a 3/5 all around. It might actually be better in Traditional simply because you can still summon TER, but unless we get him back in Advanced, you probably won't see Morph very often.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Metamorphosis

I honestly am ecstatic to use this card once again. We finally have a way to make Dragon Decks more consistent and lets no forget Demise OTK and Cyber Twin/Gatling Dragon for game. Hands down one of the more intelligent cards made. It is because of this card that TER was banned. I see no purpose playing this outside of Demise OTK or ones side deck.

I say side deck because this card provide a player a way to summon Dark Balter the Terrible. Dark Balter shuts down DDT and Demise OTK all for the simple price of a Cyber Dragon/Zaborg.

Metamorphosis

I’ve never been a fan of Metamorphosis. I just don’t feel that trading a good monster of yours on the field for a Fusion monster isn’t very fantastic. (I know some European players that are going to be upset with me for saying that. ^_^)

Maybe it’s because I don’t use it that much.

On the flip side, this card does reward you with versatility and the ability to trade an opponent’s monster for a Fusion monster. That aspect I like. Trading an opponent’s Zaborg for Dark Balter the Terrible or Thestalos for Ryu Senshi is a rewarding venture.

I admit there are some situations where having a Fusion monster’s specific effects are needed.

I’m not saying Metamorphosis is bad. I just don’t like it from a conservative standpoint. That opinion might change after testing this weekend.

Last Word: It’s a good card. I don’t use it personally anymore, but I know from experience that it is useful. Don’t let my personal taste deter you from using a good card. ^_^

Turkeyspit Metamorphosis

For the most part this card was synonymus with Thousand Eyes Restrict + Scapegoat. Since TER was banned though, Metamorphosis had seemed to drop off the map...until now that is.

The Demise OTK deck gave new life to Morph, in the way of Doom Dozer into Cyber-Twin Dragon for game.

Although many people say that Morph should be at 3 (and the Metal Reflect Slime in the OCG is the only reason this card was limited in the first place) I have to say that I disagree. So long as Level 8 monsters (as in the same level as Cyber-Twin Dragon) are easily summonable, Morph enables way too many OTK decks to win. The current Demise Deck wouldn't be nearly as consistent without Morph at 2, and if Metamorphosis was banned, it would have to rely on Megamorph to pull off the OTK.

If Megamorph was also banned...there would be no OTK. What a neat idea, eh?

Many people say that Morph is balanced, and is itself a -1, but the current crop of OTK decks, and the potential for the upcoming Neo Chaos Monsters (Enrise and Noheras, both 8 star) to abuse Morph further, lead me to think this card needs to go away for a while.

-----------------------------------------

Traditional:

1/5 - why?

Advanced:
5/5 - Demise OTK deck. Too inconsistent anywhere else.

Card Art:
3/5 - Invasion of the Body Snatchers!

Note: Sorry for my recent absences, but the recent SJC Montreal required me to focus my energies elsewhere. ^_^

Well, the card we review today is long past the day it was run in multiples…..

Metamorphosis
Normal Magic

Tribute 1 monster on your side of the field. Special Summon 1 Fusion Monster of the same Level as the Tributed monster from your Fusion Deck.

I’m sure most of remember the day when we would End Phase Scapegoat. Then, during our turn, we would use Metamorphosis. Tribute a worthless Scapegoat for Metamorphosis, then bring out Thousand Eyes Restrict, suck up the opponent’s Airknight, and attack for 1900. Then, next turn, we’d summon Tsukuyomi, and start the evil loop.

We have long past that day and age, thank goodness.

Today, this card isn’t quite as good, but it still has its uses. On it’s own, it’s a –1. You’ll need the fusion you bring out to destroy something to break even. With TER banned, the two biggest fusions you will see brought out with Metamorphosis with all the monarchs and cyber dragons floating around are: Ryu Senshi, who can negate traps and any spell that targets him, or Dark Balter, who negates effect monsters that he destroys and normal spell cards. Ryu and Balter aren’t too bad, though with only 2000 attack they can easily be disposed by a Cyber Dragon. Another fun one is Repear of the Nightmare, which can be deadly if left on the field, but it can be easily killed by other means. The other monsters you might see, depending on your deck, are King Dragon, Gatling Dragon, and Cyber Twin Dragon. And that’s about it, as Cyber End Dragon has 10 stars, and most 10 star monsters have some particular requirements to get them out in the first place.

So, if your deck runs a lot of 5, 6, 7, or 8 star monsters, then maybe you’d like to try this out. It can help out in a pinch.

Metamorphosis

Another card that comes and goes. Metamorphosis has to been one of my personal favourites. Turning a monster who has cleared the field (like a monarch) into a win condition is simply amazing. Everyone thinks of the 2 most deadly fusions Metamorphosis has to offer. The first being Ryu Senshi:

Having a powerful level 6 with 2000 attack damage and being allowed to negate a normal trap at 1000/trap is great. This means, all 3 'power' traps known as Ring of Destruction, Torrential Tribute and Mirror Force can all be negated at 1000 life points each. This lets you play all the cards you would like with out having to risk them all. As long as Ryu Senshi is on the field, you are invincible for the time-being. Ryu Senshi also provides an extra bonus towards gadgets. Not only does he negate everything gadget traps stand for, it also can't be the target of a spell card. In simple terms, Shrink and Enemy Controller can't touch Ryu Senshi. This lets you attack head-on into a gadget without fear.

The other honourable mention is Dark Balter the Terrible. The level 5 half-part of Ryu Senshi. This little guy negates normal spells this time, and has what many players call the 'Ha Des' effect. Named after the Dark Ruler Ha Des, his effect allows you to negate what you destroy with Balter. That means Sangan can't search your deck, and Treeborn Frog can't activate its own graveyard effect.

Metamorphosis also plays a key role in 'Demise OTK' founded by the Japanese meta. Being able to turn your 'Demise' or 'Doom Dozer' into a Cyber Twin Dragon is incredible, especially when you have the Megamorph to finish the game.

Metamorphosis is a great combo card and has a lot of potential with almost any deck. It earns my 4/5 rating. Sure, it isn't widely played, but it is a recognized card through out the world. It will make another impact eventually, maybe when Thousand-Eyes Restrict is once again let loose.

Bob Doily

Good old Metamorphosis. Like Book of Moon, Metamorphosis was punished for its pivotal roll during the Goat Control era. Finally semi-ed, all it took was for most of goat control to be banned (TER, Tsyuki, Mof, PoG, GC, DD). Needless to say its old uses are gone, why it didn’t become semi-ed after TER was banned is beyond me.

Event the advent of Cyber Dragon has not killed the playability of Metamorphosis. It did essentially ruin the use of Balter and Ryu-Senshi, but the release of several other fusions (see Cyber Twin) has allowed it to find new applications in the metagame.  In the end Metamorphosis will continue to find useful applications in various archetypes that will allow it to be played for some time to come. A very potent card in the right deck, finally semi-ed

Traditional: 4/5 (Scientist and TER love)

Advanced: 3.5/5 (Misses Scientist and TER L )
