Paladin of White Dragon
Happy Birthday Tebezu!
Sorry I've been out of the loop for the last couple
weeks -- things have been a bit hectic around here
and I had to get a lot of stuff taken care of. But
it's all sorted out now, so I'm back to doing the
CotD for ya!
Although I wish Tebezu a happy 20th, that doesn't
mean I'm going to be any less Simon Cowell-like in
reviewing these cards!
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon: This thing is disgusting.
Their heart was in the right place when they made
it, but the card itself just isn't worth the effort
you give in Summoning it. Best-case scenario, you
either Future Fusion for BEUD (assuming you didn't
draw 1 of the 3 Blue-Eyes White Dragon cards in your
deck if you're playing that decktype) or you
Dragon's Mirror for it, and then sac that off. Even
with Dragon's Mirror, that's still a very hard
summon to pull off, and then having BESD in the
hand. The fact that it only negates stuff that
targets leaves it vulnerable to Bottomless Trap
Hole, Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, and Smashing
Ground to say the least...players who use Widespread
Ruin have more outs against it. Granted, the average
player may take a couple of turns to get it off the
field, but your average deck will have at least 5 or
so answers to it.
Tyrant Dragon -- The restricted double attack is
good, and possibly worth the two Tributes, but the
fact that you have to tribute a Dragon to Special
Summon this hurts it badly in my opinion. Most of
the power from high-level monsters comes from being
able to cheat the summoning requirements easily --
Chimeratech Overdragon would be nothing if not for
Overload Fusion, Dark Magician of Chaos and many
other high-level monsters are best summoned with
Monster Gate or Reasoning...same idea here. It's the
best of the 3 here, but that's still not enough to
get it into any of the decks I play.
Paladin of White Dragon -- More playable with
Advanced Ritual Art -- pitch Luster Dragon out of
the deck, summon this, throw out BEWD. Hard to pull
off, and the BEWD on its own is particularly
vulnerable, but otherwise not bad.

Monday
Opening the week, I must say Happy Birthday to
Tebuzu, and for him, we are reviewing THREE cards
today, the first being Blue Eyes Shining Dragon.
Blue Eyes Shining Dragon is a beast, but you have to
jump through a couple of hoops to summon him. You
have to tribute a Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon first,
in order to Special Summon this. Not impossible, but
difficult without Cyber Stein, Dragon's Mirror
perhaps?
Blue Eyes Shining Dragon then gains 300 attack
points for each Dragon in your Graveyard, so he will
start with at least 3300 points, probably more, as
you should only use this in a Dragon deck. Then, you
CAN negate the effect of Magic, Trap, and Monster
cards that designate this card as a target.
It would stop Ring of Destruction and Exiled Force,
which is always a plus, especially with as many as
three Exiled Force currently available. The option
to negate the card is nice, but why not just keep
your Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon?
Ratings:
Traditional: Never/5 = 1/5
Advanced: 2/5 for potential
Art: 3/5 Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon looks better
Next, we move on to Paladin of White Dragon. This
monster can only be Ritual Summoned with the Ritual
Spell Card "White Dragon Ritual". You must also
offer monsters whose total Level Stars equal 4 or
more as a Tribute from the field or your hand. When
this monster attacks a face-down Defense Position
monster, destroy the face-down monster immediately
with this card's effect without flipping it face-up
or damage calculation. You can Special Summon 1
"Blue-Eyes White Dragon"
from your hand or your deck by offering this card as
a Tribute during your Main Phase. (Blue-Eyes White
Dragon cannot attack that turn.)
In this case, the only thing that hurts this card,
is that it is a Ritual. It is by no means a bad
card, just REALLY hurt by being a Ritual monster.
It can instantly destroy a face down defense monster
without applying damage or flipping it face up. That
is awesome, because you could negate a flip effect,
but if the monster's effect activates in the
Graveyard, your opponent still gets it.
However, to then summon a Blue Eyes, you're still
out two cards, Paladin himself, and the Ritual card.
Most times, it would be easier to simply tribute two
monsters, or even just one, Kaiser Sea Horse anyone?
Not a bad card, but not really necessary either.
They need to make a Skilled Dark Magician type card
for Blue Eyes and then it would be all the more
playable.
Ratings:
Traditional: 1/5 NO Rituals here
Advanced: 2.5/5 Perhaps
Art: 4/5
Closing the triple team of today is Tyrant Dragon, a
card who has one of the most incredible pictures
ever. I love that picutre, and so do you.
Effects: First, if your opponent controls another
monster after your first attack with Tyrant Dragon,
he can attack once again in the same Battle phase.
That's good, although it won't always be true that
your opponent has more than one monster out.
Furthermore, Tyrant Dragon destroys Traps that
specifically target him, and that is also a plus.
There aren't an abundance, but it happens.
Finally, the recursion sucks, having to tribute a
Dragon on your field to revive him, but every card
needs a drawback.
Tyrant Dragon can and should be the heart and soul
of any non-Hours Dragon deck. 2900 attack is
excellent for Level 8, just shy of Blue Eyes White
Dragon and Hours Level 8. 2500 defense is equally
solid, I may add.
Being Fire type is also cool, Molten Destruction
would give him 3400 attack, don't play Molten
Destruction in a Dragon deck, that was just a
comment. Two tributes does hurt a little, but he is
a beast when he hits the field.

Dragon Day :
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon
ranks among the hardest monsters to summon in the
game. And you don't get anywhere near enough from
the card for the effort.
However, it is a lovely
card to play in casual (especially with Season 1
rules).
Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 1/5
Casual: 3/5
Tyrant Dragon is
actually good. It has immunity to traps, which makes
any monster decent since traps generally kill
monsters. Also, attacking twice could be enough to
end the game in some circumstances.
However, Level 8's just
aren't worth the effort in tournaments, but this guy
is great anywhere else.
Traditional: 3/5
Advanced: 3/5
Paladin of the White
Dragon is good in principle.
Face-down hate, 1900
ATK on a Lv. 4, and the ability to summon BEWD
straight from the deck. These are are great
abilities and this could have made a BEWD deck
viable. Oh, it's a ritual. Sod, never mind that
then.

Advanced: 1/5
Casual: 4/5

Happy birthday Tebezu. Those card choices are pretty
interesting, and I've always found some kind of
potential in them. For one thing, they are all
obviously Dragons, and they can all be comboed a
bit. First off, Blue Eyes Shining Dragon has been
totally destroyed thanks to the banning of Cyber
Stein. You could get out BESD on your first turn if
it wasn't gone. Sure there is still the possibility
of Dragon's Mirror or Polymerization, but those will
take so much longer to be able to pull off. He is
immune to a lot of cards, but falls to Fissure,
Smashing Ground, Torrential, Mirror Force, Hammer
Shot, the list goes on. It's a decent card, but I
probably wouldn't try to play it. Tyrant Dragon has
a bit of more playability. You can run it in any
Dragon deck, but that probably wouldn't work that
good. I've tried this beast with Reasoning/Monster
Gate, and it was pretty good. It's nothing amazing,
but it can be playab le if used right. Paladin of
White Dragon is one of my favorites of this because
it has an Exodia combo tied into it. Using Advanced
Ritual Art you can dump the 4 pieces of Exodia to
Special Summon this card and then return those
pieces to your hand with Dark Factory of Mass
Production, Monster Reincarnation, Backup Soldier,
or Feather of the Phoenix.
Total Ratings:
Blue Eyes Shining Dragon: 1.75/5
Tyrant Dragon: 2.5/5
Paladin of White Dragon: 4/5 (when used with Exodia)

Super-Special-Awesome-Chocolately-Covered-Super-Card-of-the-Day
Day!
First of all, Happy 20th Birthday to Tebezu! One
more year to go to be legal for pretty much
everything.
To celebrate this super special awesome day, we
bring you 3 (THREE) COTD reviews for the same price
as 1 (ONE)
Sweeeeeetness!
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon
If a young boy wearing Emo style clothes, and who is
possessed by the spirit of an Ancient Egyptian
Pharoah is constantly defeating you at a children's
card game, then this is the Monster for you!
This is the monster that Pegasus meant when he told
Seto Kaiba that he had created a card that could
destroy Yugi's Egyptian God Cards. While it's not
for me to disagree with the great and mighty
Pegasus, allow me to say that Blue-Eyes Shining
Dragon may be perfect for killing Egyptian Gods, but
it pretty much sucks at killing anything else.
And since the Egyptian Gods are illegal to play in
any official tournament.....
Basically, if you get Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon onto
the field and it's not enough for you to win, then
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon won't be of any help to you
as clearly you suck at YGO.
-------------------------------------------
Traditional:
1/5 - four out of five Chaos players agree that
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon is a bad card.
Advanced:
1/5 - four out of five Vampire Genesis / Red Eyes
Darkness Dragon players agree that Blue-Eyes Shining
Dragon is a bad card.
Card Art:
1/5 - Ugliest. Dragon. Ever.
Tyrant Dragon
Wait a second. A two tribute monster with solid
stats, a good effect, a good monster-type, and it's
NOT a NOMI? Wowzers.
Tyrant Dragon is one of those cards that could be an
awesome addition to certain decks, but rarely ever
sees play because of its two tribute requirement. If
you can get around that however, you are looking at
a sweet piece of monster goodness, with a pretty
nasty effect.
Dump & Revive, Monster Gate, Reasoning, and
Mausoleum of the Emperor are all viable methods of
getting Tyrant Dragon to the field without having to
tribute two monsters. Unfortunately though, the
first three options requires you to tribute a
Dragon-type monster on the field, but then what else
are you supposed to do with those wimpy Troop
Dragons?
------------------------------------------------------
Traditional:
1/5 - There is only one Dragon played in
Traditional, and this 'aint it.
Advanced:
2/5 - It has good potential in decks built around
it.
Card Art:
1/5 - It's a dragon. And?
Paladin of White Dragon
Just like Dark Master Zorc and Demise King of
Armageddon, this Ritual Monster has been given a new
life thanks to Advanced Ritual Art. Being able to
special summon a 1900 ATK monster that has Mystic
Swordsman LV2's effect, and can tribute itself to
summon a Blue Eyes White Dragon to the field from
your hand or Deck is pretty super-special-awesome!
Toss in some Normal Monster support cards like Justi-Break,
Non Spellcasting Area and Birthright, and you have
yourself a combolicious deck.
The fact that Paladin is also a Dragon-type monster
really boosts his power, as he can benefit from all
the Dragon-type support cards out there, like
Stamping Destruction, Burst Breath and of course can
be used with Dragon's Mirror to bring out
Five-Headed Dragon.
This card can also be abused with Ritual Forgone:
Pay 1000 Life Points to summon Paladin to the field,
and then tribute it for Blue-Eyes. Not bad, eh? And
you still haven’t used your Normal Summon for that
turn.
While not as good as the Demise/Dozer OTK build,
this deck is certainly fun to play, and for nothing
else then nostalgia it is worth taking to a
local/hobby league tournament.
---------------------------
Traditional:
1/5- What did I just say about Dragons in
Traditional?
Advanced:
2/5- Demise/Dozer OTK is better, but who doesn't
like Blue-Eyes White Dragon?
Card Art:
2/5- Why isn’t Kaibaman riding the dragon? Can
anyone other than Kaiba truly tame the Blue Eyes
White Dragon??

April 2nd
It’s Tebezu’s 20th B-day!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TEBEZU!!
We are reviewing THREE dragon monsters today just
for him!
Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon
Dragon / Effect Monster
This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This
card cannot be Special Summoned except by offering 1
"Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon" on your side of the
field as a Tribute. Increase the ATK of this card by
300 points for each Dragon-type monster in your
Graveyard. You can negate the effect of Spell, Trap,
and Monster Cards that designate this card.
Obviously, this card is hard to bring out. It
requires however many cards it took to bring out the
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon itself, which could take
anywhere from 1 to 4, then having the Shining Dragon
in your hand as well. And when this comes out, you
have a monster that may or may not have more attack
then the Ultimate Dragon that just got Tributed, and
that has a semi-decent protection effect that
doesn’t work against non-targetting effects. So,
while it protects itself from Ring, Sakuretsu,
Exiled Force, and others. It won’t help it against
Mirror Force, Smashing Ground, and everyone’s
favorite lil Mole.
I’d rather keep out the Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon
that I might’ve spent up to four cards to bring out.
This card isn’t worth it.
Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 2/5
Art: 3.5/5
Next up on the list for today is……….
LOD-034 Tyrant Dragon
Dragon/Fire/Effect/7/2900/2500
When there is a monster on your opponent's side of
the field after the first attack of your Battle
Phase, this monster can attack once again during the
same Battle Phase. In addition, negate the effect of
a Trap Card that specifically designates this card
as a target and destroy it. If this monster is
Special Summoned from the Graveyard, you must offer
1 Dragon-Type monster on your side of the field as a
Tribute
Well, this guy is BIG. It takes 2 tributes, which
isn’t too good. But if you get it out….. 2900 attack
is quite a bit. It’s got an Asura Priest like
effect. Immune to targeting trap cards. If this
thing attacks, it’s more than likely going to cause
some damage of some sort. Not bad.
If the opponent manages to kill it however, we run
into a problem. If it gets Special Summoned from the
Grave you have to tribute a dragon monster to get it
out. Unless you have a Dragon that benefits from
getting Tributed, or it would mean game, then you
might be better off leaving it in the Graveyard.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this card, but if you
are a hardcore dragon player, maybe you should give
this a shot.
Traditional: 1.5/5
Advanced: 2/5
Art: 4/5
And finally……
MFC-026 Paladin of White Dragon
Light/Dragon/Ritual/Effect Lvl. 4 - Ultra Rare
1900/1200
This monster can only be Ritual Summoned with the
Ritual Spell Card “White Dragon Ritual”. You must
also offer monsters whose total Level Stars equal 4
or more as a Tribute from the field or your hand.
When this monster attacks a face-down Defense
Position monster, destroy the face-down monster
immediately with this card’s effect without flipping
it face-up or damage calculation. You can Special
Summon 1 “Blue-Eyes White Dragon” from your hand or
your deck by offering this card as a Tribute during
your Main Phase. (Blue-Eyes White Dragon cannot
attack that turn.)
This card actually isn’t that bad as far as ritual
monsters go. It only requires four stars. It’s first
effect is a Mystic Swordsman effect, which can come
in handy. It’s second effect is a quick and
effective way of bringing out a Blue Eyes White
Dragon. This card would be a little better if it
would’ve had a little more attack, seeing as it
currently can’t win against Cyber Dragon without
help.
Currently, the only Ritual Monster that is seeing
competitive play is Demise. But, if you are looking
to create a hardcore Blue-Eyes deck, then go ahead
and try out this card and it’s ritual!
Traditional: 1/5
Advaned: 3/5 (Blue Eyes deck ONLY!)

Monday:
First off a big happy bday to Tebezu. And for his
birthday we are looking at 3 cards that I haven’t
seen in a long time. Secondly, I forgot it was April
fools and that we’d be doing an April fool’s cotd
>.<
Starting off with Blue-Eyes Shining Dragon, well
what can I say? They lost a lot of potential with
this one. Losing the movie’s xforce on crack effect
(tribute this card to destroy any card) we instead
got a watered down card that could not even be
played upon release. Best suited for black sleeving
a deck, this card collected dust for a long time.
And it still does, having to tribute Blue-Eyes
Ultimate for this card is just not worth it. If you
have a BEUD out, kill them with it. There is only
one use for Shining Dragon, no not toilet paper, an
actual use in the card game. It is a part of the 5
card win condition that surpasses Exodia. By having
Blue-Eyes Shining, Dragon Perfectly Ultimate Great
Moth, Gate Guardian, Dark Sage and Sorcerer of Dark
Magic on your side of the field you win the
tournament.
Honestly, I’d fold if someone pulled that off.
Traditional: 0.5/5 (you can Stein out BEUD making it
faster XD)
Advanced: 0.2/5
Next up is Tyrant Dragon; I loved using him back in
the day. Although he is an ungainly tribute (double
sack, difficult recursion) he could do quite a bit
when he hit the field. Bypassing targeting traps,
and having the potential, albeit small, to get in a
second attack made him quite useful. That was then,
before control and chaos were defined or born.
Nowadays you’d have to put quite the effort in to
create a dedicated dragon deck, and are best off
using it in casual play.
Traditional 1/5
Advanced 1/5
The final card in today’s trio is Paladin of White
Dragon. Now this really brings back memories, I used
to run a dedicated deck around Pally and BEWD, it
was so much fun.
For a ritual monster Pally is the second fastest,
with Relinquished being first. Being a level 4
monster means that, on average, you’ll only have to
sack one monster to summon him; this role usually
belonging to Manju. His MSlv2 effect is an added
bonus that can help clear the field of threats
before using his ability to bust out your BEWD.
Since BEWD can’t attack anyways that turn either
swinging with Pally or using a Burst Stream would
get the most out of the turn that you bring him out.
Standardly Pally will not be on the field for more
than a turn, he had no business being there. He is a
support card and fills that role well. Even after
death he becomes nice food for Freed, who can easily
be supported thanks to an abundance of Lights in a
dedicated deck.
Ratings are pointless, outside of a dedicated deck
there is not reason to use him, and in one well he
is either offering solid support to BEWD or he is
the backbone of a White Pally deck. Besides, I’m
biased, I love this card.

Tebezu |
Tebezu's 20th
B-Day
3 for 1
Blue-Eyes
Shining Dragon
As far as
this monster is concerned he is limited to a
dragon deck. His effect is decent and his
ability to end games is almost imminent in the
hands of a skilled player. The problem comes
from his summoning conditions. Thus he starts
of as an inherit minus. But in a dragon deck
centered around him (especially running some
card troopers to dump the BEWD in the graveyard
for Dragon's Mirror ) his summoning cost become
less of a challenge. The fact he is a dragon
also aids dragon's mirror by allowing him to be
removed for Five-Headed Dragon. All in all this
is a decent monster in a deck is built around
him. He will never see shonen jump play due to
his inherit summoning status but he makes for
some great times when used at a local/free game.
3/5 If his
summoning conditions are met through "free"
means.
Tyrant Dragon
3.8/5
I love this
monster with a passion. He is one of the key
players in high level dragon return. Yet the
fact his special summoning needs a sacrifice
hurts his playability. Nonetheless a 2900
double attacker is not too shabby, especially
when he can combine to form a 5000/5000.
Paladin of White Dragon
The new
ritual support makes this monster a viable
choice. Not to mention that BEWD is a normal
monster with 8 stars.
4/5
This is due
to the new ritual support and the ability to
incorporate BEWD into an OTK. If anyone has a
deck utilizing this card let me know.
