Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude
As much as I hate ATK-boost effects (like
yesterday's review) I LOVE one-turn kills. Diamond
Dude Turbo is one of the hottest (if not the most
expensive) decks out there right now, thanks to the
myriad of effects it can pull off. If you don't know
the idea behind the deck, go check Metagame for
coverage of it -- it won't be hard to spot.
As for Diamond Dude itself, it's great for decks
that play lots of Spell cards that have costs, as it
can get around those costs. You may have to wait a
turn to activate the effect, but that may not be
that bad when you get a free field clear (Lightning
Vortex with no discard), free mass summoning
(Dimension Fusion with no Life Point payment)...and
currently, other than Dark Magician of Chaos, this
guy hitting a Magical Stone Excavation is the
closest thing we have to Magician of Faith, which is
sad. (If we can't have Pot or Graceful, we should AT
LEAST have 2 MoF...)
Respectable ATK score, can use priority to get its
effect off, searchable, DEF good enough to stall out
Hydrogeddon, and Dark/Warrior. It's got EVERYTHING
going for it for a good collection of decks.
5/5 for the OTK deck, and 4.25/5 on its own. |

Today we're looking at Destiny Hero Diamond Dude,
who we haven't reviewed since the summer, and it's
time he got another look. Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
still has a sick amount of potential. Most of it was
discovered when Diamond Dude Turbo took swing, but
it has power, even in a normal deck.
Part of the awesomeness of Diamond Dude is the fact
that he doesn't require the use of "costs" or
"requirements" in order to activate Magic cards with
his abililty. They do go to the Graveyard, but
activate for free in your next turn.
Granted, this needs to be a Normal Magic card, and
Diamond Dude Turbo took advantage of this, and
that's why it's such a powerful deck right now,
people found a way to capatilize on this, and it is
a force to be reckoned with. There isn't a whole lot
to tell you that you don't all ready know.
In conclusion, the deck is tricky, but awesome, try
it, or even try one in your deck, and see how it
works for you.

Diamond Dude :
One must wonder which came first - the picture or
the name?
Diamond Dude is one of my favourite types of card.
He has a spectacular effect, but you can't just put
him in any deck. And they didn't have to add a line
like "while you control another D-Hero"! With proper
construction, this little guy can net you extra
effects every turn, and extra stuff for free is
always good.

Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
I remember LOL'ing when I heard this monster's name.
Dude? Yeeesh. Who would have thought a few short
months later, this guy would be a Tier 1 decktype.
I remember playing against my friend Yannick's
Diamond Dude deck (this was pre-TCG Stratos, Destiny
Draw and Malicious) and being awestruck by the
combos it pulled off. I distinctly remember him
flipping over 'Mega-Ton Cannon', which would wipe
away my Zaborg and Mirror Force the following turn
FTW.
Now that we have Destiny Draw and Destiny Hero
Malicious, Diamond Dude is part of a near-broken
decktype that has been wrecking the Meta for the
past few months. Quite frankly, the only reason
people have stopped talking about DDT is because of
the Doomize OTK deck, that also recently started
tearing up the playmat.
Now that the Game Promo Destiny Hero Disc Commander
is out, people are trying to improve upon DDT even
more! Many people thought that having Elemental Hero
Stratos limited to 1 would kill off this decktype.
Oh boy were they wrong.

Traditional:
3/5 - There are so many broken Normal Spells in
Traditional, I'm amazed that nobody runs DDT. Why
flip over Lightning Vortex which Diamond Dudes
effect when you can do the same with Raigeki?
Advanced:
5/5 - This guy is the cornerstone of the Destiny
Hero deck. I still LOL at his name though..

Today’s card hardly needs an introduction……
Destiny Hero Diamond Dude
Dark-Warrior
Level 4
1400 atk. 1600 def.
While this card is face-up on your side of the
field, once per turn you can look at the top card of
your Deck. If the card is a Normal Spell Card, send
it to the Graveyard and you can activate the Normal
Spell Card during the Main Phase of your next turn.
If the card is not a Normal Spell Card, place it on
the bottom of your deck.
Basically part of the heart and soul of the DDT deck
that has become rather popular as of late. It’s a
Destiny Hero, so it’s searchable by Stratos. It’s a
Dark monster, searchable by Tomato, and Chaos food
in traditional. It’s a warrior, searchable by RotA.
It’s got 1400 attack which isn’t bad, and makes it
searchable by Sangan. And 1600 defense isn’t too bad
either. All in all, getting this guy on the field
shouldn’t be all that hard.
Now, onto the effect. Pretty easy to understand.
Look at the top card of the deck. If it’s a normal
spell, send it to the grave and you can activate it
during your next main phase. If it’s anything other
than a normal spell, place it at the bottom of the
deck. So, what makes this so good? For one, you get
to possibly use a spell card, obviously. But, two,
you get to use it for free. No costs. So all of
those DDT players out there get to use their Magical
Stone Excavation without discarding two cards.
Destiny Draw turns into Pot of Greed. Lightning
Vortex is a face up only Raigeki. Dimension Fusion
doesn’t cost a thing. To put it simply, Diamond Dude
opens up a world of possibilities and can lead to
some obviously deadly combos.
Keep in mind, however, that not all normal spells
will work properly. A spell like Level Up! won’t
work because it doesn’t have a level monster to
reference for what to search for since there was no
level monster tributed.
So, if you run DDT or a deck with a bunch of heavily
costed Spells, it might be a good idea to run this.
Otherwise, no.

Whatever happened to the good old days where I could
rag on every single e-hero associated card?!?!?!? I
miss those days *sigh
Well d-hero Diamond Dude continues the trend of
newer e/d-hero cards that are actually good. You’re
pretty much all aware of his use in the DDT deck, so
I’m not going to bother going into detail about
that. I just want to look at his effect. You get a
free look at the top card of your deck, if it’s a
normal spell grind it and you get the effect on your
next turn, otherwise cycle it to the bottom of the
deck. Albeit having key traps, etc sent to the
bottom of the deck can be bad, the fact that you can
get a free +1 and a grind it simply awesome.
Needless to say you can easily accommodate this
tactic into your deck build so as to minimize the
chances of getting killed by luck.
Okay, these ratings are for random decks and exclude
