Toon Gemini Elf

Wow, 1,200 COTDs already?

Man, I remember back when the original Gemini Elf was all the rage, and people were paying $50 each. I remember trading 2 Goblin Attack Forces and an Axe of Despair for the last one I needed to finish a deck, and then making the person regret it by beating them next week in the local...good times.

The Toon counterpart gets hit hard with that "can't attack the turn it's summoned" bit, more than enough that it's not worth it to have a 1900 ATK Don Zaloog. There are ways to cheat that (Call of the Haunted on the opponent's turn comes to mind) but that's one card out of a deck.

This has been nothing more than trade bait for me for the longest time, and I assume it's going to stay that way.

I hate Toon monsters, every last one of them, there just isn't enough of them to be a viable decktype, we would need a whole toon line up, and this isn't happening anytime soon folks. However, Toon Gemini Elf is fairly playable, even outside the Toon deck.

Toon Gemini Elf can attack even if you don't have Toon World on your field. It can't attack in the turn it was summoned, but we can't hold that against Toon monsters. If Toon Gemini Elf does damage to your opponent, they lose a card from their hand.

That is about the only justification for playing this at all, especially outisde of the Toon deck. It is searchable with Toon Index, which you could run three of just for deck thinning. 1900 attack is solid enough.

If you want or need a little hand destruction, give her a try.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Toon Gemini Elf :
I've always liked the concept of cartoons of cartoons.

Of the toons this is probably my favourite. A decent ATK, Toon World isn't required, and a useful discard effect. It still has all the Toon problems of waiting to attack and blowing up with Toon World. Shame, really, as Toons could have been good.

Toon Gemini Elf - 1200th COTD review.

This card is not too bad. It is basically a bigger Don Zaloog. Issues come by not allowing a player to attack on the turn its summoned, the fact it dies if you use Toon World, and that spellcasters have generic search cards. If there was a (UNITY OF SPELL) search card that allowed one to look through their deck for 4 star spellcasters it'd be usable, but Don Zaloog is superior b/c he can be searched in numerous ways and can provide advantage from turn one.

Toon Gemini Elf

Congrats to Pojo.com and its 1200th COTD review!

Today’s card, Toon Gemini Elf, is a card that doesn’t get much attention. When this card first came out I wanted to use it, but I could never get over the fact that she can’t attack the same turn she is summoned.

Can you imagine if she could?

Your deck would have at least 6 Don Zaloogs ^_^

Last Word: She has a good ATK power, a great effect, but a less than attractive drawback. Summoning sickness (from Magic: The Gathering) is not a desirable trait in the Yu-Gi-Oh! environment.

Sorry about the lack of updates on the blog guys. I’ll have more about the Gathering Place Games $250 cash tournament later today.

Thank you for your patience!

Turkeyspit Toon Gemini Elf

Normally speaking, anything with the word "Toon" in it's title tends to suck. This card however is an exception. Toon Gemini Elf is known as a class C type Toon monster, as it doesn't require Toon World to be on the field to be summoned, and you don't pay 500 LPs to attack. Toon Gemini Elf still cannot attack on the turn she is summoned, and she can only attack your opponent directly if Toon World is on the field. And like any Toon, should Toon World be destroyed, she dies with it.

After all that though, why would you run this card? She has 1900 ATK, which beats any commonly played 4 star monster these days, and if you inflict battle damage with Toon Gemini Elf, you get to randomly discard a card from your opponent's hand!

If that weren't enough, Toon Gemini Elf is like her non-Toon counterpart, a Spellcaster type monster. This means she can benefit from Spellcaster support cards like Magical Dimension, Magicians Circle, Magician's Valkyria, and so on.

I don't really see this card as being splashable, but if you are intrested in running a Spellcaster themed deck, this card should be one of your number one choices.

Traditional:
1/5 - EARTH type, slow, lots of reasons not to run her.

Advanced:
3/5 - Pretty much only good for a Spellcaster deck. 5/5 in a Toon deck though!

Today we look at a card that is part of a deck type that has been around for a LONG time, but has never been given much if any serious play.

Toon Gemini Elf

Super Rare

Attack/1900 Defense/900

This card cannot attack during the turn that it is Normal Summoned. When "Toon World" on the field is destroyed, this card is also destroyed. If "Toon World" is on your side of the field, and your opponent does not control a Toon Monster, this card can attack your opponent's Life Points Directly. When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent's Life Points, your opponent discards 1 card randomly from his/her hand.

Like the other toon monsters, it can’t attack the turn it was normal summoned, and it gets destroyed if Toon World is ever destroyed. But, unlike some of the other toons, this card doesn’t need Toon World to be on the field on the first place.  But when toon world is on the field it can attack the opponent’s life directly, which helps make use of it’s Don Zaloog effect, which doesn’t require Toon World to be active, which is obviously good.  I’d say this card is actually quite balanced.  It’s negative effects are balanced out by it’s positive effects.

In a Toon World deck (or maybe a Spellcaster deck), this card is a definite must.  It’s got solid effects.  Anywhere else, however, I can’t see this card seeing play.

Sorry for the short review.  This is our 6th card review and it’s only Tuesday.  I’m beat.

BobDoily Tuesday

Wow this week is starting off with cards that I like. Today we look and Toon Gemini, one of the best toons made. Being able to be summoned and used sans Toon World is awesome. The major downside is not being able to attack on the summoned turn. This summoning sickness was given to the toons originally because having a 2500 direct attack could really hurt. Back in MRL days. Regardless of the potential in toons the fact that nuking Toon World killed them really made them never worth running. Also since they are dead weight the turn they are brought out means that they can easily be destroyed before doing anything.

The twins were graced with an additional effect that always makes people do a double take. When they deal damage they nail a card in the opponent’s hand. Sweet, but…. They actually have to get to attack….. If you really wanted to use Gemini you’d be best off bringing them out via Ultimate Offering on your opponent’s turn when you feel that it would be safe. Aside from that they are too fragile, trying to survive an entire turn, without doing anything, is far too difficult. This is especially true with Cyber Dragons running around, 1900 atk just doesn’t cut it anymore.
