Welcome to what is apparently SJC week, where we are
going to be looking at cards that had an impact or
were big in Ohio recently. We start with Gellenduo,
a monster with an effect similar to, yet different
from, Kaiser Sea Horse.
As you should be aware, Kaiser Sea Horse has 1700
attack also, yet 1650 defense, vs. the defense of 0
here. Kaiser allows you to tribute himself as two
monsters for a Light attribute summon. Gellenduo
does the same, however you must be tributing for a
(Light) Fairy monster.
We don't have a lot of two tribute Light monsters,
and there are even fewer two tribute (Light) Fairy
monsters. All of this aside though, Gellenduo isn't
all that bad of a card. It has the Spirit Reaper
type effect of not being able to be destroyed by
Battle, which is always good.
Unfortunately, it has the nasty effect of being
destroyed whenever you take Damage of any kind. That
would fall in the not-so-good category.
Battle Damage, burn damage, damage from a Magic or
Trap card, the list goes on and on. If you have
something you can tribute (Guardian Angel Joan?),
you had better do it fast, because Gellenduo can be
taken care of...easily.
In closing, I don't see why you just stick with
Kaiser Sea Horse, since you are probably only
playing either of them in a Light Tribute heavy deck
involving things like Blue Eyes, Guardian Angel
Joan, Moisture Creature, Gilford the Lightning, or
Mystical Knight of Jackal. Try both, see which works
better for you. It all comes down to personal
preference in the end.
Ratings:
3/5 all around
Art: 3.5/5 Those two things are trying so hard to be
cute...
You stay classy, Planet Earth :) |

Gellenduo :
No one will ever finish a set of Yugioh ever again.
Ever!
This is probably the best of the secret rares as it
is the least situational. A 1700 ATK monster that
counts as 2 tributes isn't too bad (though why would
you be using a two tribute monster?). Making it
indestructible is better, providing some field
presence for a reasonable deck type. Now, to get it
to work you need Sanctuary in the Sky on the field
(as the other ways of stopping damage aren't really
worth it), but it is an entertaining card.

Gellenduo
1.7/5
This monster has a few interesting effects (the
dumbest picture ever) and a decent stat balance. The
fact it is a light, fairy, etc. makes it usable in
more than one way (anyone thinking about Freed right
now?) But the fact he dies if you take any kind of
damage is an automatic 1 in my opinion. The fact
ring of destruction becomes a plus 2 or 3 upon use
makes you cry. Firestorm monarch hitting a monster
just nailed some more advantage. If that one line
was not on there this card would be broken. But it
is an it is worthless in my opinion. |

Gellenduo
In my opinion, one of the best Fairy-type support
cards included in Structure Deck 11.
Spirit Reaper is pretty much seen as a staple card
for most decks, as it serves as a last minute
defensive wall which you can hide behind should your
opponent have too much momentum. Gellenduo fulfills
the same purpose, but also fits in with a Fairy-type
theme.
Although it doesn't have the hand discard effect
that Spirit Reaper has, it instead has pretty
impressive stats. 1700 ATK kills pretty much every
non-tribute monster out there except for perhaps
Elemental Hero Straos, D.D. Survivor, Kycoo the
Ghost Destroyer and Reflect Bounder.
It's secondary effect isn't as good as it should be.
When I first read the text of this card, I
immediately figured that this would be the perfect
engine with which to summon Majestic Mech - Goryu.
Alas, Konami has ruled that eventhough Gellenduo
counts as two 'tributes' for a LIGHT Fairy-type
monster, the text of Goryu requires two 'monsters'
be tributed; so just like using Kaiser Sea Horse,
Gellenduo doesn't meet the requirements to keep
Goryu on the field permanently. That really takes
the steam out of this card, because the only 2
Tribute LIGHT Fairy-Type Monsters that leaves us
with is:
- Guardian Angel Joan
- Voltanis
- Moisture Creature
- Neo-Parshath
- Vanity's Ruler
Moisture Creature can't get it's secondary effect
because, once again, Gellenduo only counts as 1
monster, while Voltanis and Neo-Parshath both have
Special Summon conditions that are superior to a
simple Tribute summon. Guardian Angel Joan isn't
exactly splashable, and so I guess that leaves us
with Vanity's Ruler, which in my opinion, is hardly
a game breaking card.
Perhaps there are more two tribute LIGHT Fairy-type
monsters in the pipeline, but for now, Gellenduo
fails to live up to it's potential.
----------------------------------------
Traditional:
2/5 - It's LIGHT, but it won't stop your opponents
BLS or CED
Advanced:
4/5 - This card is basically 3 more copies of Spirit
Reaper.
Card Art:
3/5 - Soooo Cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute. |

What happened to my weekend? It was just here!!! Oh
well…..
GELLENDUO
Light
LV4
ATK/1700 DEF/0
[Fairy/Effect]
This card cannot be destroyed by battle. When this
card's controller takes any damage, destroy this
card. If you Tribute Summon a LIGHT Fairy-type
monster, you can treat this 1 monster as 2 Tribute
Monsters for the Tribute Summon.
Well, 1700 attack is decent, 0 defense isn’t all
that great. It’s light and a fairy, so it gets a
decent amount of support.
It’s first effect is nifty. It can’t be destroyed as
a result of battle. It’s just like spirit repear,
well….sorta. This effect is great if you chain Rush
Recklessly in the damage step when in a battle with
a monarch. Shrink works great too. Other than that,
this effect is almost irrelevant due to its second
effect. If this card’s controller takes ANY damage
whatsoever, this card gets destroyed. So, if they
summon Cyber Dragon and run this card over, or do
damage to any other monster, this card gets
destroyed as well. If they ring of destruction your
Airknight Parshath, you lose your Airknight, 1900
life points, AND Gellenduo! You just gave your
opponent a +1. If the opponent plays Sparks, you
lose 200 life and Gellenduo.
It’s second effect is like a more restricted Kaiser
Seahorse. It’s a two tribute for Light FAIRY type
monsters only. Neo-airknight or Joan anyone? Kaiser
can do the same thing but for other monsters too,
like Moisture Creature and Blue Eyes.
I would not recommend this monster unless you ran it
in a counter fairy deck, or a deck with a lot of
Royal Decrees, Rush Recklessly, and Shrink.
Traditional: 2.5/5 (It is a light monster with
decent stats)
Advanced: 3/5 (Counter-fairy or Rush/Decree deck
only)
Art: 1.5/5 (What on earth are those things?)
