Dark Paladin
Thursday

Today we look at Cloudian-Eye of the Typhoon. I did an article about the Cloudian monsters just a little bit ago. For that article, click the link please.

Anyway, the Cloudians are an interesting set of monsters introduced in Gladiator's Assault. Most of them, as this one does, have the side-effect of being destroyed if in defense position. That's bad, as there are many Magic and Trap cards that simply shift your monsters battle position.

Anyway, Eye of the Typhoon is the heavy hitter for Cloudians. He has 3000 attack points and changes the battle positions of all face up monsters on the Field when he attack except for Cloudian monsters.
Odds are, that will be all you have on the Field if this is on your Field, so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

I like the Cloudians, but I don't see them as a solid enough decktype, but I think they could hover around in the Tier 1.5/2 mark, and they will get more support in the new set, Phantom Darkness.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1.5/5 I doubt this could work here, at all.

Advanced: 3/5 Competitive? Sure. Game-breaking? Sure. Solid
and consistent enough to take over or directly edge the Tier 1 Decks?
I don't think so, but we will see.

In my opinion, one of the weaker cloudians even though he has the highest attack power. He is not as dominating as Dark Magician of Chaos, and quite frankly, I would rather play Blue Eyes White Dragon, as it is far easier to summon and can be used for far more tricks. His effect is nice, but this behemoth will not be dying in battle, and the whole death by defense thing is really annoying, as Enemy Controller just ruins your day. His battle position changing effect is nice, but not really great. There are better cards to use in a  cloudian deck I am sorry to say.

David "BobDole" Hoffman Cloudian - Eye of the Typhoon

Well here's a decktype I have paid absolutely no attention to thus far, despite many telling to do otherwise.

I haven’t heard much regarding this monster in particular, so I’m just going to look at as a plain card, without the Cloudian support.

Well, for starts, it’s 8 stars (boo). The good thing is that it’s not a nomi (yay), which is almost kind of rare for 8 star monsters nowadays. It’s an aqua/wind, which obvious makes a play off the fact that it’s a giant typhoon. It also has a nice 3000 ATK, but a measly 1000 DEF, which really doesn’t matter when you look at its effect.

-The fact that it’s not destroyed by battle is honestly kind of pointless, considering the ATK power and the fact that it can’t go to DEF. It’s a nice ability, and certainly not a downside, but it’s more of a waste of text than anything.
-If it’s face-up DEF, it dies. So basically Enemy Controller crushes this thing. Finally, a reason to run three E-Con.
-The effect of changing things around can be a double-edged sword in so many cases. Granted, you can change that Reaper to ATK mode and lay waste to your opponents LP, but at the same time, you could change that Reaper to DEF and do absolutely nothing at all. I’m not a huge fan of cards that require precise timing. The best timing for this thing is when your opponent has everything in face-up DEF, which happens roughly two or three times a game.

All in all, this is an Ok at best monster. If its effect was “change all monsters to ATK mode”, it would be much nicer, but I suppose that would be making too half-decent of a card.

In Traditional, this card can suicide BLS or CED, which actually makes it kind of decent. Of course you’ll never get it out but hey, it’s the thought that counts.
In Advanced, this card really isn’t too fantastic. I suppose if there are support cards I’m overlooking that bring it to the field instantly and give it an additional million ATK points, then it's a good monster. Otherwise, my rating stands.

Traditional: 2/5
Advanced: 1.5/5
Cloudian Deck: 2.5/5
