Dark Paladin
Closing the week, we look at Mesmeric Control. I look at this and wonder, is there really a point to this. I see it really more as a combo card. Let's assume you have field control. Your opponent is playing defensively, so you won't need this card. Their monsters will stay in defense position.

Now, let's assume your opponent summoned something to destroy your monster, and now has the strongest monster on the field. You can't destroy it, but perhaps could in defense mode. So, by changing it to defense position, you can play this and kill it next turn?

Wait, kill it this turn, and don't play the card at all! Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see a use for it. Sorry...

Ratings:

1/5 for what I sadly believe is the fourth time this week, and I hate giving 1/5 as my rating.

Art: 2/5 Not so much

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

Mesmeric Control

On behalf of all of Britain: "We got it this before you did. Na na nana naa!"

Sadly, it isn't any good. Players hardly ever manually change monster positions as DEF below 1800 is mostly irrelevant, so stopping them for a turn does less than nothing. And it stops you from activating Tragedy.

Mesmeric Control

This is a card I’d like to give a chance. It’s strategic in nature and can be used to your advantage if played right. I think of this card as a Flip-Effect-controlling card much like Mind Control back in the Goat Control days.

This card reassures you that if your opponent is about to mount an offensive with a swarm of GK Spies or bombard you with a barrage of +1s from Old Vindictives, Dekoichis, etc; they will stay face-down.

It’s pretty cool. This card is a good choice, in my book, to control face-down monsters for a turn until you can deal with them. Whether you deal with them by top-decking into that Nobleman of Crossout, Zaborg, Granmarg, or whatever…Mesmeric Control will give you that extra turn.

Last Word: This card isn’t bad at all. It just has to be used right. There is such thing as strategic advantage too. You don’t always have to be so technical with your card plays and rely on the numbers.

Don’t you think it’s about time to start speculating about the next Ban List?

It’s February 9th and that means that we only have 19 days left until the official Ban List is placed into effect. Probably half way through those 19 days the Japanese division of Konami will release the info on what they plan to use as the next Ban List.

This next Ban List can and will change the nature of this game What will they do?

The Gadgets just came out, we have two new Duelist Packs, and we have Strike of Neos debuting just days before the Ban List.

If you’d like to get into some serious and insightful discussion about the upcoming Ban List, be sure to visit the #1 YGO blog at: www.thebestyugiohblog.blogspot.com

Turkeyspit Mesmeric Control

Talk about your old school cards

Originally a Game Promo, this card has been reprinted in the Shadow of Inifity SE boxes, as well as in the Dinosaur Structure deck, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why.

The only reason you should run this card is to combo it with cards like Morphing Jar #2, Cyber Jar (banned) and The Shallow Grave.

My shortest review to date, this card is just plain trash.

Welcome to Friday!! Schools out for the week! YAHOO!!!!! To end off the week…..

Mesmeric Control
Normal Spell
During your opponent's next turn after you activate this card, your opponent cannot change the battle positions of monster, except with a card effect.

Well, this isn’t exactly an advantage obtaining card. So, you stop your opponent from changing their monster’s battle positions for a turn…..so, they won’t be able to Flip Summon there Magician of Faith for a turn, or if there Mobius got Enemy Controller’ed the turn before, they will have to wait an additional turn before they can push for damage with it, which might give you a turn to draw a monster that can break 1000 defense. The problem is that it doesn’t stop your opponent from summoning new creatures, or changing the position of newly summoned creatures. So they just tribute their Mobius for a Zaborg, destroy your f/d monsters, and hit you for 2400 anyway.

Unless you have some sort of combo, I wouldn’t play this. If your looking for stall, try G-Bind, Level Limit Area B, or even Stumbling.

Group: Spell Card

During your opponent's next turn after you activate this card, your opponent cannot change the battle positions of monsters, except with a card effect.

This card is an enigma. It has never seen that much play, and I doubt that it ever will but I would always love to see a deck which utilizes an effect like this, and for Konami for coming up with an effect like this. It puzzles me.

Anyway onto the review.

Lets look at the bad points: Its negative advantage, which means as soon as you activate this card it's a –1 as it doesn't directly affect the gameplay that much. It also is dependent – this means that in order to have any influencing effect it must be activated when your opponent has monsters. Adding to this we are in a meta of attacking so the majority of monsters are left in attack frequently Only if you are seriously in defense will this card give your opponent any benefit

Its kinda like a freezing effect on the game. But poor.
