Seven Tools of the Bandit
This card seriously isn't as bad as Royal Decree
makes it look.
Decree's a great side-deck choice against decks that
involve a crapload of Trap cards, things like Burn
decks, Gadget decks, and the the like. Against those
setups, it's worth giving up your ability to use
Sakuretsus and Bottomlesses, as they're either
entirely dead (against Burn) or a disdavantage (you
usually don't want to Sakuretsu a Gadget that
already replaced itself.)
But what if you're not siding against one of those,
or you still want to be able to use your Trap cards
while stopping an opponent's? Seven Tools is for you
then!
1,000 life points can be an overpayment (if stopping
something simple like a Saku) or a bargain (if
negating a Torrential/Force.) The usual argument is
to use Dust Tornado over this, as it's better to
destroy the card for free rather than pay to negate
it later, but sometimes you'd rather not random Dust
into multiple M/Ts, or Dust into a bluff, when you
could sit there and wait for the goods and stopping
them just by paying some LP.
Try it and see if it works for you.

Wednesday
This is the week that just seems to drag on, doesn't
it? Today we come to 7 Tools of the Bandit, a card
that might not be as useless as you think.
So, for the cost of 1000 lifepoints, you can negate
the effect of a Trap card and destroy it. Mirror
Force? No. Magic Cylinder? No.
Solemn Judgement? No. Sakuretsu Armor? No.
Widespread Ruin? No.
Waboku? No. Ring of Destruction? No. Torrential
Tribute? No.
Stopping one of those powerful Traps could certainly
leave your opponent hurting, as they most likely
didn't expect you to do such a thing, since 7 Tools
is commonly played. At the least, try one or two in
your side-deck and see what happens.

7 Tools of the Bandit :
Despite containing a Swiss Army Knife, this does not
support toolbox play.
7 Tools should be good. 1000 LP to negate a trap a
pivotal moment is a good deal. Sadly, pivotal
moments are few and far between and 1000 LP for a
1-4-1 isn't quite as good as it sounds. People are
willing to pay much more to use Solemn Judgement
because it can stop so much more, dealing with
anything unexpected/desirable instead of just a
nasty Mirror Force.

I prefer Trap Jammer (since most bad traps hurt
during the attack step) but this shuts down Solemn
Judgement, Torrential Tribute, Call of the Haunted,
etc. Thus for 1000 LP it is more versatile. |

Seven Tools of the Bandit
Hello everyone! I’ve taken a LONG
break and I feel a lot better. Sorry about that. I
had finals recently (still do) and I needed a break
to study and get everything straight.
Today’s card is Seven Tools of the
Bandit. Seven Tools may not be such a bad card now
since the new sets are bringing out some specialized
Traps that don’t necessarily require you to morph
your deck to accommodate Royal Decree. Not all decks
can do this. Right?
Why negate all Traps when you can
pick and choose your Battles? The added benefit to
Seven Tools is that it’s a Spell Speed 3 Trap. The
ability to negate Solemn Judgment for 1000LP seems
to be worth it to me.
Gadget and Monarch decks alike will
be anticipating the new STON Trap Card ‘Flipping the
Mat’. A Royal Decree spread may not cover your
needs. Seven Tools may require the same amount of
slots as Royal Decree but doesn’t restrict your
ability to play other basic Traps. This depends on
your deck’s structure though. I don’t suggest it for
all decks.
Last Word:
Seven Tools has always been a good
card. The trick is making room for it. Some players
like the benefit of running more Spells because of
Royal Decree. Others hate it. Give Seven Tools a
try.

The OCG Ban List is here! No
telling when UDE is going to make a decision. I’m
90% sure that this Ban List will be the same for us,
but UDE has been known to surprise us in the past.
Visit my blog at:
www.thebestyugiohblog.blogspot.com to view the
latest discussion about my views on the new OCG Ban
List. It’s actually a lot better than I thought it
would be. We’ll start with that. ^_^

Today we look at an OLD card I remember getting a
little bit of play when it got released, but I
haven’t heard much about it since.
Seven Tools of the Bandit
Counter Trap
Pay 1000 life points. Negate the activation and
effect of a trap card and destroy it.
Pretty simple. If your opponent activates a Mirror
Force or any other trap, you can pay 1000 to
activate this to negate the trap. A 1 for 1, with a
payment. Not bad, but not great either.
Other than Gadgets and certain burn decks, most
decks contain 4 or 5 traps. That isn’t very much.
Solemn Judgment, which came out at the same time, I
see as a far superior card. If you draw Seven Tools
when you have 1000 life or less, it’s worthless. You
can always pay for Solemn. Seven Tools can only
negate traps. Solemn can negate almost ANY card in
your opponent’s deck. But obviously there are times
when Seven Tools is better, especially in the early
game when your opponent hasn’t played much, if any,
traps, and it’s also when 1000 life points is
generally going to be better than 1/2 your life
points. Or when it allows you to attack for game.
But overall, Solemn is much more versatile.
The fact that Seven Tools can only negate traps AND
that it only negates one of them, makes this card
easily overshadowed by Jinzo and Royal Decree as
they shut down all traps. As well as Pitch Black
Warwolf and Mirage Dragon who shut down your
opponent’s battle phase traps, which is extremely
effective against many decks, especially Gadgets.
The only deck I would possibly consider for this
card would be counter fairy for obvious reasons, but
even then it wouldn’t be top pick.
Traditional: 2/5 (Negate Imperial Order for a 1000?
Sure!)
Advanced: 1.5/5 (2.5/5 in Counter Fairy)

Seven Tools of the Bandit This card is a
counter trap, counter traps are GOOOOD. They act as
the trump card to any others that are not negating
them at the moment. I wont bored you with the whole
speed spell thing, as its been done by other writers
/ other COTD reviewers. Let’s just say the speed of
this card beats all others.
One of the most funniest things which I’ve heard
someone say recently is to use this as a counter to
chain burn, please don’t. It’s like going bird
shooting with Dick Cheney (not a good idea).
Unfortunately this card has a bigger, brighter
brother who comes in the form of Solemn Judgment.
The infamous "GOD SAYS NO" when you activate Solemn
Judgement makes Seven tools of the Bandit look like
a weak brother. Fact is Solemn Judgement owns this
card all over the shop.
Solemn Judgement CAN ALWAYS be activated, Seven
Tools CANNOT always be activated, assuming Jinzo/Royal
Decree aren’t set up.
Seven Tools of the Bandit is a bad top deck.
Royal Decree has 0 cost.
In short Seven Tools of the Bandit just doesn’t
cut it in the meta, there are much MUCH better
alternatives (Solemn Judgement, Royal Decree, Jinzo)
Should be ran in

Nostalgia ftw. Back in the day this card was solid
before the advent of Jinzo it was extremely useful.
But how has it stood the test of time? Well
surprisingly not that bad. Although far from being
staple material it does provide a possible side
board option if you are expecting to have to counter
a trap heavy deck and don’t like the heavier cost of
Solemn Judgment. Unfortunately with Royal Decree,
Jinzo, Solemn Judgment etc there is very little
reason to even do that.
