Dimensional Fissure
Here's a card that's seen a rise in popularity over
the last few months.
Dimensional Fissure counters a wide variety of
decktypes and powers a revival engine that makes
Treeborn Frog look like crap when it goes off. As an
offensive decktype, it can be comboed with D. D.
Survivor (and to a lesser extent, D. D. Scout Plane)
for infinite tribute fodder and invincible
attackers. No matter what you do to one of those
when the D-Fissure is out, it's coming back. On the
flip side of that coin, it stops Dark World from
getting its effects, screws over Treeborn Frog, and
almost all monster search engines stop dead in their
tracks against it. It does restrict you to playing
the Apprentice Magician engine yourself, but that's
not such a bad thing. Between this, the D. D.
monsters, maybe a copy of Macro Cosmos just to have
it in Trap form, and some Banisher of the Radiance,
you have a full-blown RFG deck that cripples your
opponent's options and doesn't harm your own.
...that, and it's funny when a complete idiot
launches a Wave-Motion Cannon when you have this
out.

Dark Paladin |
Welcome to the rest of the week which I filled in
and inadvertenly have made Magic and Trap card week.
Today we look at Dimensional Fissure, and
interesting Continuous Magic card.
This card is very cool, but really only suited for a
couple of decks.
Dimensional Fissure removes all monsters from the
game when they are sent to the Graveyard. So, if you
can keep this in play long enough, you can really
hurt your opponent if they aren't playing anything
to retrieve them.
However, if you are playing a deck specifically made
to retrieve them, like a Dark Magician of Chaos
deck, Strike Ninja deck, an Element deck, or even a
Fusion Gate deck with Fusions up the Yin Yang, a
Dimension Fusion or Return From the Different
Dimension deck, this is the card for you.
However, it all depends on whether or not removing
monsters like this is going to help you. This card
might actually be good in Traditional as well, as it
could thwart the summoning of something that says
"Remove 1 Light and 1 Dark monster..."
Ratings:
Traditional: 2.75/5 Could be good against Envoys and
Chaos Sorcer
Advanced: 3/5
Advanced above mentioned decks: 4.5/5
Art: 4/5

Dimensional Fissure
1/5
Outside of D.D. Survivor and dinosaur Combined decks
this card is really not that great. It shuts down V.
Lord and Phoenix, but people are not into utilizing
minus one cards without some other synergy.
5/5 In a D.D. Survivor deck.

Dimensional Fissure :
It's Macro Cosmos, but not!
A Macro deck could hypothetically gain from this
card, giving it extra ways to remove monsters from
play.
However, Macro would prefer to be using, ehm, Macro
Cosmos? Keeping monsters out of Graveyard is useful,
but not so useful as to dedicate a deck slot to the
purpose.

Advanced: 2.5/5

Dimensional Fissure
Whoa. This card is supposed to be a
monstrous presence at the upcoming SJC. Sending
monsters to the RFG pile is definitely worth the
effort. Coupled with D.D. Survivor, you have a nasty
combo that few decks can beat. Tell you what: If
you’re not prepared to beat Dimensional Fissure or
Macro Cosmos then don’t be surprised when you don’t
do well at the event.
You can pull off a whole slew of
combos with the RFG pile as well as render a few
decks useless. Recruiters hurt the most from
Dimensional Fissure as well as the infamous Vampire
Lord. Dimensional Fissure, if kept in the game long
enough, can render Pot of Avarice pretty useless as
well.
Last Word:
Dimensional Fissure is an awesome
card. It’s a card that single-handedly destroys some
decks. It’s not impossible to counter, being a
Continuous Spell and all, but it’s still worth being
ready to face this card at the SJC.

I know you’re getting ready for
SJC Orlando. Do you want to know how to prepare?
Well, I’m talking about it day-by-day as we get
closer and closer to this monumental event that will
shape this year’s metagame.

Dimensional Fissure
I remember when Enemy of Justice came out, and many
people discounted this card, and it's stronger Trap
Counterpart, Macrocosmos. But, people thought
Banisher of the Radiance was garbage as well, so you
can see how things quickly change in this game.
Dimensional Fissure has to be one of my current
favorite side-deck cards. It counters just so much
in this game:
- Dark World Monsters
- Treeborn Frog
- Recruiters (Mystic Tomato, Giant Rat, Pyramid
Turtle)
- Cards that get effects when sent to the graveyard
(Newdoria, Cyber Phoenix, Sangan)
- Pot of Avarice
My favorite combination is this card, and D.D.
Survivor, an overlooked Rare from The Lost Millenium
Set.
When both are on the field, you have an almost
indestructable monster that has an impressive ATK
value (1800 ATK) and can serve as tribute fodder for
Monarchs.
Everytime your opponent uses removal on him
(Smashing Ground, Mirror Force, etc..) it's only a
temporary solution, and a -1 in card advantage for
them.
So what deck do we know that is currently running
like a bajillion Sakuretsus and Smashings? Yep.
Gadgets!
So long as you keep Dimensional Fissure on the
field, and D.D. Survivor face-up, and on your side
of the field, your opponent's Gadget deck will only
be able to remove him from the field temporarily,
while leaving you to counter-attack without fear of
Sakuretsu Armor or Widespread. Hot Stuff!
Be careful though, as many Gadget decks are running
Snipe Hunter, who can remove Dimensional Fissure
from the field with a lucky roll of the dice!
Dimensional Fissure is somewhat preferable to
Macrocosmos, simply because it's faster to activate,
and isn't subject to the usual Anti-Trap Suspects:
Jinzo and Decree
If you are running any deck that revolves around
Tributing, then side-decking 3x Dimensional Fissures
and 3x D.D. Survivors is the smart play.
-------------------------
Advanced:
4/5 vs Gadgets - if they don't draw MST, Breaker,
Heavy or Snipe Hunter, it's all over
3.75 vs typical Monarch deck - anti-Tomato, anti-Treeborn.
Traditional:
2.75/5 - there are better cards to run, but since
Chaos is the name of the game, removing your
opponent's Monsters from play instead of letting
them hit the Graveyard is a "Good Thing".
Card Art:
3/5 - it's a rift in the fabric of time and space. |
