Damage Condenser

They can't ALL be good...

In order to play a card that doesn't generate advantage, it has to be versatile most of the time to warrant it. That's not the case here -- it has a very specific activation trigger (the amount of Battle Damage you take) and a discard as well. It throws a monster out on the field though, so you're giving up 2 cards to get 1. There's one and only one card I tend to think of comboing with this -- Injection Fairy Lily. With a meager 400 ATK before boost, you don't even have to take a decent hit to search her out.

...but then again, you have Giant Rat, Last Will, Sangan, and a myriad of other search options to pull her because of her < 1500 ATK.

This isn't better than anything we're using now. Stick it in the junk Supers pile.

Dark Paladin
Today we look at a very interesting Trap, Damage Condenser, which yes, IS a -1. However, you could use this to your advantage.

The biggest thing that hurts this card is that it requires a discard.
I generally don't like cards that require discards, but this may be an exception to the rule. The biggest use I see for this card would be in a Phoenix deck.

If a Monarch or even Jinzo (2400) attacks you and you are about to take damage, activate this, and Special Summon your Phoenix. This obviously does you no good to summon a Monarch, as they need a Tribute Summon to successfully get their effect.

You may be able to use this to summon something else interesting though. As stated, the biggest downside to this is probably the discard.

Damage Condensor
Inspiration to at least three mad scientists came from the card.

A card that does something good, but is never used.
I've always thought using this to pull out an Injection Fairy Lily would be a strong play. However, the fact that it ends up being a -1 and that you are limited to the amount of damage you take, this card's universal tutorage just gets passed over. Mostly because damage is taken in small chunks, and most monsters with low ATKs prefer to be face-down. But, I'd say it is a great card in casual for pulling out that token card.

Damage Condenser

2.8/5

I like this card and I don't. The release of the gadgets means that it will start to see a little more play because it allows a player to summon Treeborn Frog, Sangan, etc. basically for free. But then again it still requires us to take some damage and if we are hit with a spirit reaper the double discard almost guarantees a loss, in most cases, in most games, that we play:)

This card might be more playable with Gadgets. Discard effects are just THAT much better with Gadgets on the scene.

The effect is very promising. If you take some damage from battle, discard a card to activate and you get a monster from your deck with an ATK equal to or less than the amount of Battle Damage you received. Not bad.

Last Word: I liked this card since it came out. Why haven’t I tested it? I don’t really know. This card will definitely be on my mind during the SJC this weekend. I might actually play this. Hmm…

I know you’re getting ready for SJC Orlando. You want the latest information? DO you want to know how to keep your cool during the high-pressure competition? Well, I’m talking about it day-by-day as we get closer and closer to this monumental event that will shape this year’s metagame.

Turkeyspit Damage Condenser

Oh how good this card could have been.

Basically, flip it over to Special Summon 1 monster from your deck whose ATK is equal to or lower then the amount of Battle Damage you just took.

What better way to dig out your Treeborn Frog and get it safely to the field? I mean, how hard is it to take 100 or less points of Battle Damage from a single attack ?

But alas, there is more required from you then just taking some Battle Damage. In order to activate this card, you must also discard 1 card from your hand.

Ironically, the ideal card to discard is the very one you want to search out from your deck: Treeborn Frog.

So, now we now have to sacrifice 2 cards to get 1 to the field. Sounds like a rip-off to me.

Planning to summon something bigger then Treeborn? Well, when you find a way to ensure that your opponent hits you with enough ATK points to summon that two tribute monster of your dreams, please let me know.

Had the discard not been part of the effect, you would have seen this card run in multiples a long time ago.

With Sinister Serpent Banned, and Treeborn and Night Assailant both Limited to 1, there is no guaranteed way to offset the -1 that this card requires.

Just use Last Will instead.

---------------------------

Advanced:

2/5 - Last Will is good for more than Cyber-Stein. Really!

Traditional:

1/5 - Yata cannot be Special Summoned, and would return to your hand anyways.

Card Art:

2/5 - Who would have thought that 'Batteryman AA' was rechargeable?
