Gravekeeper's Spy
This is also an excellent anti-Gadget measure.
Gadget decks tend to attack into face-downs
randomly, figuring "hey, if it survives, I'll just
Smash/Fissure it!" If that happens to a Spy, the
Gadget player is taking 600-800 damage and now has
TWO 2000 defenders it needs to clear off the field.
Gadget players will be hesitant to use a 1/1 removal
spell on a freely-summoned Spy, just like players
are hesitant to use Sakuretsu Armor against a
flip-summoned Dekoichi. Lightning Vortex (with a
Gadget or otherwise "free" discard) is a viable
option though.
The 1200 ATK isn't much good against the Gadgets as
two-thirds of them beat them out and the other one
kamikazes with it, but they're not about attacking
the Gadgets, they're about stalling for field
presence and getting the free +1 against a deck that
won't be able to handle them. (If we had Shield
Crush, then this wouldn't be a problem at all, and
you might start seeing Sand Moth instead, but that's
later -- hopefully not too much later though...)

Today we look at Gravekeeper's Spy, one of the best
Gravekeeper monsters. 1200 attack is low, but 2000
defense is decent. Necrovalley makes him 1700 attack
which is respectable and 2500 defense which is good.
His effect allows you to search any Gravekeeper from
your deck and Special summon it to the field in face
up Attack or Defense position (except GK Chief who
has 1900 attack). It can be searched by Mystic
Tomato, Sangan, and even itself, so finding it isn't
difficult.
Run three in the Gravekeeper deck, or you just
aren't playing it properly.

Gravekeeper's Spy
Yugioh disagrees with Stratego on the strength of
spies. This is a good thing for us.
Spy is a defensive powerhouse that we should all be
ashamed of not thinking of sooner, considering how
long the card has been around. 2000 DEF requires a
tribute monster or removal to get through, and the
fact that if you attack it, there's another one
sitting on the field too, Spy can greatly reduce the
tempo of a game. Gadgets have a problem here as they
must use removal to get around both, so the gadget
player loses 2 cards, while the Spy player only
really loses 1. A useful swing.

Gravekeeper's Spy
I hate this card. If you run it use 3 or some other
gravekeeper's. But simply running 2 is a mistake
beyond comparison. Draw into 2 of these girls and
you will know what I mean. A gadget player will
probably just use snipe hunter to kill it while its
face down anyway.
Maybe throw a kinky Lightning Vortex out their to
remove the plus.
Run Sand Moth, that will make the snipe hunters cry.

Gravekeeper's Spy
Another great counter against Gadget decks, plus is
a great tribute foddler for Monarch decks. At the
beginning of the format I always see myself running
these things but ussually I end up taking them out
for some reason.
Some guy in the Orlando SJC ran these maindeck to
help him with his Monarchs
and also to counter Gadgets...it took him to a 2nd
place finish and got him a Crush Card. His 2000
defense can fend off mostly anything cept Cybers,
Zaborgs, other Monarchs but if you have something
f/d it wont matter(cept Zaborg in most cases).
Running 2 is good, but sometimes you can main 3 and
it works just as fine.
If your looking for a counter against
Gadgets..maindeck these or side them at least.

Gravekeeper’s Spy
Who doesn’t love Gravekeeper’s Spy right now? One of
the best weapons against Gadget decks, Spy can
really destroy the momentum a Gadget player tries to
build. It’s also great for speeding up a Monarch
deck that needs some Tribute fodder against a Gadget
deck.
It’s not very hard to play Spy. Set her face-down
and watch your opponent smash into it while you get
a free creature; not bad.
Last Word: Gravekeeper’s Spy is a great card. Always
has been really. Monarchs and Gadgets alike can run
this card Main-Deck to provide some much needed
field presence. Both decks have problems maintaining
field presence. However, the only difference is that
they approach field presence in a different way.

Gravekeeper's Spy
One of the best examples of using a card for a
purpose other then what the card designer intended.
Obviously, this card was created as support for the
Gravekeeper archtype, using this card to search out
another Spy for Defense, or a GK Assailant or GK
Spear Soldier for Attack. At some point however,
someone figured out that this card is ideal for a
Tribute heavy deck, simply because it replaces
itself when flipped face-up.
If you have ever played against a Monarch deck,
you've likely seen 2-3 of these guys.
2000 DEF is nothing to sneeze at, despite the fact
that Cyber Dragon is so common, and 1200 ATK is also
very respectable. If your opponent manages to keep 1
GK Spy face-up on the field, you can forget about
using your Smashing Ground to kill your opponent's
Jinzo or Zaborg.
Now, we are reviewing GK Spy at this juncture
because of it's ability to serve as a counter to The
Gadgets. The only thing worse then a 2000 DEF wall
are TWO 2000 DEF walls. Your typical Gadget deck
doesn't run anything stronger than Cyber Dragon in
their deck, so if that metal snake isn't availabe, a
Gadget player is forced to use 1-2 pieces of removal
just to clear the way to attack their opponent's
Life Points.
Eventhough it still gets it's flip effect, GK Spy is
one of the reasons why Drillroid is commonly seen in
Gadget decks.
If you want a consistent defense against weenie
attacks like the Gadgets, or you are looking for a
reliable means of keeping field presence for
Tributes, Gravekeeper Spy is one of the best.

Reborn all make this card somewhat obsolete.

4/5 - as anti-Gadget tech, or in a Tribute heavy
deck.

Today we look at a card that could be put in a
Gadget deck, but more likely to be used as a
counter/stall.
Gravekeeper’s Spy ---Short Print
Dark/Spellcaster/4 stars/ATK 1200/DEF 2000
FLIP: Select 1 monster that includes “Gravekeeper’s”
in its card name with an ATK of 1500 or less from
your Deck and Special Summon it in face-up Attack or
Defense Position. The Deck is then shuffled.
So, while obviously it gets a perfect score in the
actual Gravekeeper deck, it has shown up in a
variety of decks due to it’s ability at maintaining
field presence and a solid 2000 defense, which makes
for a magnet to Smashing Ground. A +1 when flipped,
or a 1 for 1 when attacked and destroyed. Use em for
tribute, use em to block. What’s not to love?
This combination is what makes this card so good
against gadgets. Obviously, Gadgets can’t kill a
2000 defense monster in battle, let alone 2 of them
when it gets flipped. They’ll need to use not one,
but TWO pieces of removal to clear the field of
monsters. That’s two smashing grounds or fissures
that won’t be used against the real threats, such as
monarchs or any other big tribute monsters.
So, Spies aren’t exactly a counter to Gadgets, but
they can hold them off until a real counter is
drawn. If that’s what you’re looking for, or just
need more tribute fodder, give a pair of these a
try.

Assailant)
