Field Barrier
Dude...just no.
I understand it, yet at the same time don't. Some of
the new 4-star 2100 monsters require a certain field
spell on the card to function, and die if it's
destroyed. However, none of those cards see any real
play. For the decks that are actually competitive
that use a Field Spell, you usually just want to get
to the next copy of the Field Spell. Rainbow Ruins
protects itself as is, and you'd rather draw into
another of it rather than Field Barrier, as you
could activate it over your Rainbow Ruins and
re-draw assuming you have 4 crystallized monsters.
For Big City, you could use it to get back another
E-Hero in the same turn with the Skyscraper 2
effect.
The few other decks that use a Field card that even
remotely work have better ways of getting to its
extra copies -- like the new "discard a certain
monster to search for the spell" thing, like
Gravekeeper's Commandant. Until a deck comes along
that requires its Field Spell card SO badly that
Field Barrier benefits it, this just won't see play.

Tuesday
Today, we look at Field Barrier, which is a good
idea for a card, but it just doesn't seem to be
executed very well. Allow me to explain.
It's a Continuous Magic Card, which isn't the best
of things. With so many Monarchs, not to mention
things like Mystical Space Typhoon, Heavy Storm, and
Giant Trunade, Continuous Magic and Trap cards are
hard to keep on the Field.
The effect isn't bad though. As the name implies, it
protects Field Magic cards. They cannot be
destroyed, and also, another one cannot be
activated, unless this card is first destroyed. The
biggest downside to this card, besides being a
Continuous Magic card, is that you can't have more
than one active at a time.
So, you can't count on a safety net of having two or
three out at a time. It may be worth it in a Crystal
Beast Deck, but I would stay away elsewhere.
Ratings:
1.5/5 all around, but 3.5/5 for potential for
Crystal Beasts

You stay classy, Planet Earth :) |

Field Barrier :
Ah, the joy of a straightforward name.
Do you need a field spell to stay alive? Well, if
you need it that badly dedicate a couple of deck
slots to this. I can't quite tell if this is quite
worth the bother, as deck lists are generally fairly
tight

Field Barrier
The only field spell currently seeing play
outside if the harpy theme is found in the
gem-beast deck. There it already has self
designed protection. Thus this card is
pointless

Field Barrier
Field Spells are generally frowned upon by
competitive duelists, simply because they are too
easy to destroy with commonly played cards (ie.
Mobius, Heavy Storm). Field Barrier attempts to
protect Field Spells from destruction, while also
preventing your opponent from playing a Field Spell
of their own.
This makes Field Barrier superior to Magic Reflector
in terms of protection, as well as giving it a
purpose in your side-deck if Crystal Beasts or
Gravekeeper's become meta dominant decktypes.
Unti that happens though, just run 3 copies of your
Field Spell and multiple copies of it's respective
Tutor (if available). That should be sufficient.
-------------------------------------
Traditional:
1/5 - What's a field spell?
Advanced:
1/5 - At present this card is rather useless. If
Crystal Beasts finally show up in SJC Top 8's, then
siding in this card could be an effective counter. |

For
today’s card we are going to look at ….
Field Barrier
Continuous Spell Card
Field Spell Cards cannot be destroyed. And also,
Field Spell Cards cannot be activated. There can
only be one of this card to be activated on the
field.
I’ll keep this review brief as there is not much to
say about this card.
It belongs in decks that run Field Spell Cards,
namely Gravekeeper’s. It’s a better version of Magic
Reflector as it will always protect the spell while
it is out, and it can even stop a new field spell
from hitting the field. But, it is also weak to S/T
removal as it is continuous. Magic Reflector can be
good, but it only protects once. Field Barrier
protects your Field Spells from Mystical Space
Typhoon, Heavy Storm, Mobius, but Field Barrier
won’t protect itself obviously so it will still be
destroyed in case of Heavy and Mobius. But, just
like reflector, Giant Trunade and Raiza can
effectively get rid of the field spell just long
enough to cripple the deck.
I would also point out that in Raiza’s case, if it
returns the field spell, the spell won’t be able to
be replayed thanks to Field Barrier. A nifty trick
if you play a deck that tries using this card.
So, if you run field spells, go ahead and give these
a shot, though I would personally rather use Solemn
Judgments and Pulling the Rugs in today’s meta.

Field Barrier
Continuous Spell
Field Spell Cards cannot be destroyed. Also, a new
Field Spell Card cannot be activated. You can only
control 1 face-up "Field Barrier" at a time.
With all of the many Field Spell Card searchers from
Force of the Breaker, it's fitting they also made
Field Barrier. This can protect your Field Card
while this card is face up, yet, I don't think it's
really better than Magic Reflector when played on a
Field Spell Card. Though it does what Magic
Reflector can't, stop other Field Spell Cards from
Being played. That ensures your Field Spell card of
being safe from another one being played and if your
deck is really dependent on that, then it's even
better. Some players are siding Necrovalley, so
having Field Barrier to protect your Field Spell
Cards are really nice. Though we have seen decks
like Max Suffrage a very long time ago try a deck
with Clock Tower Prison, Field Barrier would have
made a big difference in that deck and would have
helped to protect it more. This is the perfect card
to compliment the new Field Spell Card searchers
from Force of the Breaker. If your opponent is
playing Field Spell Cards, don't be surprised when
you see this card being played along with it!
Traditional: 1/5 Not many Field Spell Cards work in
that format.
Advanced:2.5/5 It may not be Magic Reflector, but it
can be better at times, and with more searchers for
the various Field Spell Cards, it's a great card
overall.
