Dark Paladin
Tuesday

Like yesterday, we have two reviews for you! Aren't you lucky? We start with Crystal Beast--Amehyst Cat. Our Feline friend is an Earth monster, also of the Beast family. It is also level 3 with 1200 attack and 400 defense.

What's 1200 attack get you in this instance? Not a whole lot--half of a direct attack. I say half, because while our feline can attack your opponent directly, the damage is halved. Outstanding...600 damage for a direct attack and you have a 1200 attack monster sitting on the Field.

Also, I will still point out that instead of going to the Graveyard when destroyed, you can send this monster to an open Magic or Trap slot you have on the Field.

Ratings:

Traditional: 1/5
Advanced: 2/5 It can attack directly, and if you power it up, I
guess that could be good, but the fact the damage is halved, well...it sucks.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

The effect is pointless.  Direct attacking is not that big of a deal unless your wasting other resources to make it one.

[Beast/Effect]
This card can attack your opponent directly. When it does so using this effect, any Battle Damage it inflicts to your opponent is halved. If this card is destroyed while it is in a Monster Card Zone, you can place it face-up in your Spell and Trap Card Zone as a Continuous Spell Card, instead of sending to the Graveyard.
1200/400

This monster is really just like those older monsters that can attack direct. Reminds me a lot like Susa Soldier but with worse stats. This card when attacking direct will only deal 600 when you use the effect and that is usually not a big deal to take. Sure with the format getting more lifepoint dependent, 600 isn't going to be gamebreaking. It's too bad this cat only has 1200 attack, if it had 2000 like Susa Soldier it would be a lot more effective. It's just way too weak to really do some damage.

Traditional: 1/5 Doesn't do much here at all.
Advanced: 1.5/5 Sure you can add equips, but not too many people use them.

Crystal Beast - Amehyst Cat

This is another card for the gem beasts that is almost a near staple.  Its stats arent to impressive, but its effect can give you some needed damage for later in the game, and is also a solid monster to bring back for an otk.  You could also do some tricks with this, like equiping it with an equip card for a direct attack(even tho it will be halved.) Another major thing about this card, is its searchable with rescue cat, and it may not seem that important, but you get 2 more gem spells in your spell and trap zone, and those last 2 could mean game for a abundance on the following turn.

On another note, this card can add up alot of damage fast, and if your opponent cant deal with it, they can take quite a bit of damage.  Whats really good about this,  is after you do a abundance return, and if you didnt finish them off, you can summon this and probrably steal the game, or force monster removal, and that would fuel for another abundace or rare value.

Most of the gem beasts are fillers for the great support cards they have, and that is exactly what this is.

Manticore of darkness has great synergy with this.

Alex Davis Crystal Beast Amethyst Cat

Amethyst cat is far better of the two we’re reviewing today. Not only is his effect better (although neither is good really), but he has a combo that’s very, very fast. I know it’s been a while, but I’m sure you remember a cute little guy named Rescue Cat? There was a cheap little OTK based around this guy way back when, but now that Last Will is gone, that’s gone as well. But now it’s redeemed itself and brings a huge burst of speed to Crystal Beast decks! Rescue cat allows you to special summon 2 LVL3 or lower Beasts from your deck. That means that you can fetch 2 Amethyst Cat and either do 1200 or 2400 damage to the opponent through attacks. Then the downside of Rescue Cat’s effect says that the monsters you special summon with that effect have to be destroyed at the end of the turn, but in fact that DOESN’T have to be a downside at all! If you have a Rainbow Ruin on the field at the end of the turn, then you just give it 2 more Gems to work with at the end of the turn instead of sending those beasts to the graveyard! So not only can you get 2 Gems out with one effect, but you can load them up for Ruin at the same time. Now, Amethyst Cat only has 1200 ATK, so it’s not going to be running over much at all, but the combo I just described is really one of the only ways you’ll want to summon this guy to the field most of the time.

RATING: 4/5 for Crystal Beast decks.

Bob Doily Tuesday

Back, stupid essays.

Oh well, so we are in the middle of the Crystal Beast week. They just scream out gimmicky to me. That and Heavy Storm….

Overall I’m not too impressed with them. The fact that they go to the backboard and sit there for later use is something unique, but I just don’t really see them contributing to too much. I won’t go into detail on their secondary effect as others will have covered that enough anyways, and since it is generic across them all I feel no need.

Amehyst Cat:

This card strikes me as useless. Weak stats, no method of generating any sort of advantage. It can attack direct, but that is halved, which makes no sense as 1200 isn’t that much to begin with.

Overall I see no real purpose in even including this card in the gem beast deck. You’d be better off using the others, maybe some that actually accomplish something.

Advanced: 0.5/5
