Tuesday:
Freya, Spirit of Victory
This is a good example of a money card solely based
on rarity. I understand UDE wanted to throw a lot of
extra fairies in this set, but this one isn't enough
to make me want to play the deck.
This review will be short, as I have a very easy way
to show why this card won't see play.
This card can't be selected as an attack target if
you have other fairies, and grants a 400/400 boost
to all fairies. Sounds A LOT like Command Knight,
who does the same thing for Warriors (without the
DEF). Except he has a 1200/1900 for initial stats.
Now look at most Warrior Toolbox decks that you see
either on Metagame, or in other tournament coverage.
How often do you see Command Knight? Not all that
often. If a 1200/1900 with those effects isn't worth
playing, a 100/100 sure as heck isn't.
This card earns a 2/5 at best. |

Freya-Spirit of Victory is card for today. Upon
first glance, she may look like garbage. A Level 1
monster with only 100 attack 100 defense points. Not
a whole lot working in your favor right there, but
she can be quite the asset to a Fairy deck.
As long as you control Freya, she adds 400 attack
and defense points to ALL Fairy monsters you
control. Cool, power bonus for you, it wouldn't be
half as good if she powered up ALL Fairy monsters.
Plus, she cannot be attacked if you control at least
one other Fairy type monster.
So...if you controlled two Freyas, they both
couldn't be attacked, and they would each have 1200
attack points. Let's look at that, what is a fairly
commonly played Fairy...Airknight Parshath? That
would turn Airknight into a one tribute 2700 attack
monster with Trample and Draw Power.
Hot...sexily hot.

Freya :
Doesn't this already exist? Oh, no no quite. I
forgive them.
Ehm, ATK boosts aren't the most interesting thing in
the world, and I'm not even sure if you can form
that lovely "No, you can't attack me," soft lock by
having two copies in play (doubt it myself). Yes
having multiples in play gives you and unstoppable
army of Fairies, but most of them were good enough
to start with.

Freya, Spirit of Victory
I actually own this card, imagine me with a secret
rare before any card troopers:( Her effect is
pointless, her stats are too low, and she is the
kind of girl we'd all like to meet. Athletic, happy,
killer body, etc. But as the old saying goes, looks
can only take you so far. If your one dimensional,
outside of trade bait and the "look at my shiny new
card" expressions she is about as playable in this
game as a Magic/Vs./Black Jack card. Effects that do
not provide any way to generate advantage better
have stats or something along those lines to make
advantage pushes be possible. Less than 1000 attack
means even skelengel and Sangan eat her for dinner.

Freya, Spirit of Victory
I don't know which is more pathetic: this card, or
the fact that someone beat the odds, and pulled it
from a STON pack as a Secret Rare.
When a Secret Rare is selling on eBay for about $5
USD, that should tell you all something.
Plain and simple: if you are using mainly LIGHT
attribute Fairy-type monsters, then run Hoshiningen.
If you are running EARTH attribute Fairy-type
monsters, then who cares about this card, as Mudora
boosts it's own stats.
Pure garbage.

Traditional:
1/5 - It's LIGHT...dotdotdot
Advanced:
1/5 - If this were the last Fairy-type Monster on
EARTH...I would run something other then a Fairy
Deck before I mained her.

On
we go with one of Strike of Neos’ Secret Rares…
Freya, Spirit of Victory
STON-EN064
Light/Fairy/1/100/100
While you control a Fairy-type monster other than
"Freya, Spirit of Victory", this card cannot be
selected as an attack target. All Fairy-type
monsters you control gain 400 attack and defense
points.
So, this lil girl is certainly searchable being a
light monster with 100 attack and defense. It gives
all fairy monsters you control 400 more attack and
defense. And if it isn’t the only fairy, it can’t be
attacked. Thing is this, you can play Luminous
Spark, which gives 500 attack. And Luminous Spark
only needs protection from S/T removal. Freya needs
protection from effects, and from attacks. I’d
rather go with Spark, if anything. Stat boosting
effects usually aren’t worth it, other than Rush
Recklessly and Shrink.
So, overall, this lil monster just isn’t worth it.
If it’s own stats were better, and if the boost was
bigger, maybe. But as it stands now, no, it isn’t
worth protecting.

Tuesday
So today we are looking at a card that could have
been quite useful, Freya Spirit of Victory. Similar
to other elemental and type lockdown monsters, Freya
can prevent being attacked. Unfortunately they
decided to give it a clause of this only working
when the other monster is not a Freya. WHY? Things
like Marauding Captain and Magician’s Valkryie do
not currently cause that much trouble. Freya lost
significant playability due to not being able to
establish one of these locks.
This is unfortunate because she already had low
playability to begin with. With only 100/100 in
stats you are left with quite a fragile monster,
regardless that she gives herself and other
+400/+400. A lockdown of two would only have been
two fairies at 900/900, that’s not scary. Thanks to
these inherent flaws Freya is left to a support role
in a fairy deck, most likely as an add-on to the
counter based version. Leaving various situations
during which this monster will be quite dead weight.
It has uses, but it could have had so many more. I
so hate wasted potential.
