Harpie Queen
Ahh, decent theme support! You don't see that all
that often.
Harpie Queen does two things right -- it lets you
search for a decent field spell, and it's worded so
you're not conflicting with that stupid 3-per-deck
limit on all the other Harpie Lady cards, but can
still take advantage of things that require a Harpie
Lady.
...the 1900 ATK, which only gets boosted by most of
the cards worth playing in that theme, doesn't hurt
either. ...not to mention the Winged-Beast type that
lets you further abuse Icarus Attack to trick
opponents into wasting M/T removal to give you a
3-for-2.
What more can I say? 5/5 in the theme deck and 1/5
elsewhere. There's already a deck up on Metagame
that tries to exploit this thing, so I suggest
looking there for a good build to start off with to
abuse this thing. |

Today we look at Harpie Queen, and I would think the
Queen of the Harpies (Simpson's reference!) would
have more than 1900 attack, but whatever,
If, for whatever reason, you are playing a Harpy
Deck, this is the card for you. 1900 attack in a
Level 4 is good, and 1200 defense is a little low,
but not terrible. This card IS treated as Harpie
Lady, but you should be using these anyway.
By discarding Queen of the Harpies, you can add
Harpie's Hunting Ground from your Deck to your Hand,
which is also a good thing. Harpie's are trying to
be playable, this is a step in the right direction.

Harpie Queen :
Hot piss. The designers have worked out how to
support themes.
A 1900 Harpie Lady is good. Well, if you want a
Harpie Lady deck. One that can fetch you a spell
destroying Field Spell just sweetens the deal. It
also means Harpies can finally get around the
problem of only really having three Harpies in a
deck. The deck probably isn't tournament viable, but
it should be fun. Nicely done men.

Harpie Queen
Anyone who was a fan of the original Yu-Gi-Oh!
Cartoon / Anime remembers Mai Valentine's signature
card: Harpie Lady.
Sadly that monster was never really competitive, and
lacked sufficient support to exist on it's own as a
decktype.
Word came of added support for both Harpies and
Winged Beasts in Enemy of Justice, but again,
Harpies Pet Baby Dragon didn't do much to bring this
decktype up to snuff, and Icarus Attack didn't have
a sufficient amount of tributes to justify running
it. Now at last we have some support that will give
Harpies a shot at the top tables, as all the pieces
are coming together.
Harpie Queen helps to overcome the major flaw in the
Harpie sub-theme: the fact that you could only have
3 Harpie Lady cards in your deck. Whether it was
Harpie Lady, Harpie Lady 1/2/3, or Cyber Harpie
Lady, since they are all considered to be "Harpie
Lady", you can only maindeck 3 copies of any of
them. This means all the great support cards that
exist for Harpies, from Elegant Egotist to Harpies
Hunting Ground, depended on your getting one of
those three Harpies to the Field.
Now that we have Harpie Queen, you can technically
have 6 copies of Harpie Lady on the Field or in the
Graveyard, and all of a sudden Harpies Hunting
Ground and Hysteric Party are viable options.
The final piece of the puzzle was the introduction
of Raiza the Storm Monarch. Being a WIND Attribute,
a Winged-Beast type, and a Monarch with the
strongest effect of all 5 of the Monarchs, really
gives themed support to a Harpie / Winged-Beast
deck.
3x Raiza the Storm Monarch
3x Harpie Queen
3x Harpie Lady 1
3x Harpies Hunting Ground
now add:
Icarus Attack, Hysteric Party, Spiritual Wind Art -
Miyabi, Winged Sage Falcos, Flying Kamikari #1
and now you have a deck that has tons of synergy and
utility.
And best of all, the cards most difficult to obtain
to build this deck are the 3x copies of Raiza the
Storm Monarch, and perhaps Harpie Queen. Harpie Lady
1 and the subsequent support cards have been
reprinted a few times, and are even available in the
SD8 - Lord of the Storm Structure Deck.
Will Harpies be able to take on the likes of Perfect
Circle, DDT, Doomize and Trooper Monarchs?
Impossible to say. But what I can tell you is that
Harpies have never been more competitive then they
are now!

Wow, decent Harpy support; and finally one that
doesn’t conflict with all the other Harpies. As most
people know the problem for Harpie decks was that
all of the various versions had their name treated
as “Harpie Lady” meaning you could only have 3
combined from all of them in the deck. A huge
oversight on the part of the designers, especially
since being allowed 3 of each would not give them an
edge but more of an actual chance.
Harpy Queen takes a nod to Proto-Cyber dragon in
getting around this clause. Combined with being a
build in tutor for their field-support card gives
her quite a bit of versatility. Although it would
have been nice to have seen some additional effect
while on the field, being able to offer solid
support and a stable beatstick to the archetype is
definitely something that was needed.
Truthfully I can’t think of any reason to not
include this in a Harpy deck, that’s probably
because there is none. Which of course makes ratings
useless for her, outside of a Harpy deck she is no
better than a vanilla; inside one she is extremely
useful.
