Friday:
Volcanic Doomfire
...holy crap!
This is a pretty good reason to run a theme. It
requires going through two Continuous Spells to do
so, and it IS a nomi (so you can't Premature it once
it dies), but every time it kills a monster, it's a
Raigeki/Cannon Soldier. If you can protect this guy
for 1-2 turns, you're going to win the game, plain
and simple. There's no attacking around it and then
Smashing in Main Phase 2 thanks to his "if you have
something in ATK mode, it's attacking me and I'm
going to pwn it in the face" effect. (Although with
1800 DEF, unless you're also sitting on a Spy or
something, Smashing will hit home and take this guy
out.)
I definitely see why this is a FOTB Ultra, and see
why people were running around like crazy trying to
get Blaze Accelerators and Tri-Blaze Accelerators
off of people at the Sneak Peek.
3.5/5 -- he requires heavy protection but is well
worth it. |

Closing the week, we look at Volcanic Doomfire, who
has one of the sickest pictures ever. Force of the
Breaker gave us a lot of Fire cards, including many
to support the "Volcanic" theme.
This monster can only be Special Summoned by sending
a face-up Tri-Blaze Accelerator" you control to the
Graveyard. Then what happens? Well, your opponent
MUST attack this monster with any monsters they
might control that are in attack mode.
Furthermore, if Volcanic Doomfire destroys a
monster, all of your opponent's monsters are
destroyed and they take 500 damage for each monster
that was destroyed by this effect. Incredible,
simply incredible.
Obviously, it belongs in it's own deck. Will this
deck be competitive?
Perhaps, only time will tell.
Ratings:
Traditional: 1/5 Not likely to work here.
Advanced: 3/5 even in its own deck...that's lots of
work to go through to have this thing destroyed by a
magic or trap card

Volcanic Doomfire :
Ah. What would Yu-Gi-Oh be without card text in size
4 font?
A royal pain to summon, and its global monster death
is somewhat irrelevant as the Blaze Accelerators
probably should be keeping most monsters dead, but
it is a nice idea. The fact that it can be
resurrected after proper summoning helps matters.
With 3000 ATK it is a fantastic finisher as if your
opponent does have a few monsters this can do
upwards of 3000 damage in one field clearing turn.
However, I'd say the deck can live without this.
Traditional: 2/5
Advanced: 2.5/5

Our
new money card. I honestly think I love this
monster. It is hard to summon, but the sneak peek
promo makes that easier on us. The fact it can
eradicate all of our opponents monster and deal
damage makes me think of winged kuriboh Lv. 10. This
card along with winged kuriboh Lv. 10 offer powerful
game altering effects. But the cost of summoning
them hurts and in the end makes you wish Zaborg or
Mobius hit the field instead. I'm not saying it is
bad b/c it offers us a new deck type, but
realistically you'd be better off not using it. But
if your looking for a challenge this guy offers you
something for trying.
2/5
That is until someone shows me reason it deserves
more. |

I hate it when they make nomis, especially for
archetypes that aren’t broken!!! The lower level
archetypes are already having a tough time; if they
are given a non-splashible card then it should not
be a nomi. Some will argue that it prevents abuse, I
say that if the decks aren’t even on the radar, give
them something to abuse so that they can get on the
radar.
Fortunately the condition for this nomi isn’t so
bad, it’s a spell card. This provides a lot of speed
and flexibility for it. Combined with the designed
tutoring of the components create a potentially fast
drop. But that’s where it runs the risk, relying on
the synergy of the components always risks the deck
being overloaded with cards that can potentially
lead to dead hands and topdecks. Fortunately Pyro
users are already used to both of those situations.
Doomfire boasts a solid ATK and an interesting
effect. If the opponent doesn’t nuke him with a s/t
then they will most likely lose their field. But
that’s where the contradictions start to arise. A
lot of the support cards build around him help to
destroy monsters. This combined with some of the
inherent nature of the card game tend to lead to
small fields anyways. Meaning, that even if you get
to use his effect, you won’t be getting much out of
it. More likely than not the opponent will have
possibly two monsters on the field, the first one
dies to the attack and then you get to kill one.
He does help to promote an empty field, but will
most likely die by effect before you can use this to
push for any sort of advantage. As for ratings this
falls under the archetype category, outside of a
devoted deck he is useless; inside it he’s the
focus.
