Dragon's Mirror
Spider-Man 3

Dragon's Mirror is THE SOLE reason to run a Dragon deck. You bring out your Five-Headed Dragon by removing all those other weaker dragons with good effects, like Exploder Dragon, Masked Dragon, Twin-Headed Behemoth...possibly Return FTW afterwards.

Anything that gets around the "having to have it in the field or in hand" part of Polymerization can be considered half-decent for Fusion. Look at Overload, knocked to 1 because Chimeratech is so broken.

Not much else to say about the card -- 5/5 in its own deck, and 3/5 for the theme deck. Not a great deck, nor one I'd take to a Regional or SJC, but it could pwn some friends at a local.

As for Spider-Man 3, I liked the cartoon better than the actual movies, so I won't be seeing this. However, what I will offer in lieu of a review is my advice to go check out The Angry Video Game Nerd's review of the Spider-Man series of Nintendo/GB/GBA games. I'd link to it here, but there's a fair bit of cursing, and I'd rather not have that being linked directly off of Pojo. For those who are of age to hear those things, the reviews are hilarious and well worth checking out. I think the Spider-Man one is hosted on a site called ScrewAttack, for those who are interested.

Dragon’s Mirror is one of those cards that is great… and yet a problem.  On its own, it’d just be “the Dragon’s better Polymerization”, and I am open to that.  I want Fusions to be worth playing, and as long as the alternatives have reasonable drawbacks to prevent abuse, so there’s still a reason to consider running a real copy if Polymerization in the deck, I can live with that.  Three cards from the hand and field is a lot, and there’s a lot Konami would have to do (UDE might be able to do some of it, but much of it is in the cards being released themselves) to make “proper” Fusion summons worthwhile.

Unfortunately, there are just too many cards that can “add up” to cheap power.  Konami’s insistence on turning the “Remove From Play” pile into the auxiliary Graveyard (and the Graveyard into the auxiliary hand), Five-Headed Dragon and Future Fusion all push this from being a good Fusion alternative into a cheap-victory producing bad one.  Yes, some of us want it to take real skill to win a game.  Dimension Fusion and Return from the Different Dimension turn removing a lot of Monsters from a cost into a game win condition.  Five-Headed Dragon and Future Fusion also help “break” this card.  Any five Dragons is easy to meet in a Dragon-deck, and Future Fusion just lets you cherry pick the ones you’ll remove for Five-Headed Dragon numbers two and three.

When it’s easy to get something into the Graveyard, requiring it in the Graveyard as the cost of something isn’t much of a cost.  When it’s so easy to bring back removed Monsters, especially en masse, removing them from play isn’t much of a cost.  It’s very annoying when you’re dueling someone, playing your cards right, but in the end they win by using Dragon’s Mirror for Five-Headed Dragon and running over a Monarch to nail you for 2600 damage when you’re finally out of Sakurestu Armor.  Even if you do nail the resultant Fusion, it basically only cost a Spell to get into play.

I’d really like the next “Polymerization-alternative” to avoid this pitfall (it’s not like this was the first to do this trick) to avoid this pitfall.  Instead of allowing a Fusion from the Graveyard, maybe just an effect appropriate to the Attribute or Type of Monster.  I don’t want to turn this into a CaC session, but as an example, a Pyro Fusion alternative that gave burn damage, a Fiend Fusion alternative that allowed you to use an opponent’s Monster, etc.  Or at least make sure it makes sense for whatever you’re removing from the Graveyard to fuse: Zombies are at least in character doing that.

As for the actual card and how it works in the metagame, it really lets Dragon decks surprise you.  Dragons have some decent beatsticks single Tribute Monsters, and if your deck is mostly Dragons, Stamping Destruction is nice as extra S/T removal.  I haven’t been following the game closely, but if no one is making good use of Dragons, it’s probably only because even more unbalanced cards are currently ruling the metagame.  This might not be good enough to be the deck everyone takes to win a SJC, but at least a few serious players should be toying with the idea.

Ratings

Traditional: 2/5 – I don’t think there are enough good Light and Dark Dragons.  Just a few more though and this score could rocket up for Dragon Chaos.  I mean, as an alternative to “plain” Chaos.

Advanced: 4/5 – This score reflects what it can do in decks that are at least half “Dragon”.  It can’t bring out Cyber End Dragon, Cyber Twin Dragon, or Chimeratech Over Dragon, but a 5000 ATK beatstick Special Summoned from a single Spell is an easy way to swing the game.

Dark Paladin
Friday

Closing out the week, we look at a card that I'm fairly surprised hasn't been reviewed yet...Dragon's Mirror.

Dragon's Mirror
Normal Magic

Remove from play, from your side of the field or your Graveyard, Fusion Material monsters that are listed on a Dragon-type Fusion Monster Card, and Special Summon that Fusion Monster from your Fusion Deck. (This Specail Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon).

As good as this card may be, obviously, it's only use is in the Dragon deck, or in a deck where you are trying to summon something like Five God Dragon or the like. Is there any reason to run this over Future Fusion?

Perhaps...remember, Future Fusion requires you to wait a little, and the it must stay on the field or your Fusion Monster is destroyed. Use both of them, it's just another handy option to summon a specific type of moster.

Ratings:

4/5 where it belongs
1/5 elsewhere

Art: 2/5 Not the best picture, but it makes sense.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

See Spiderman 3, it's out NOW!!! "If you haven't all ready begged your parents asking to go, do it now." "You won't be missing anything funny, I'll just be sitting here reading this adult's newspaper. GO NOW!" Krusty the Klown (referring to Itchy and Scratchy Land in the episode Itchy and Scratchy Land, which you can find on Disc 1 of the Simpsons--the complete 6th Season.

Dragon's Mirror :
Alright. Certain fusions might be slightly viable...

Combined with Future Fusion, this makes Dragon fusions practical. As the Future Fusion is either going to get you what you want, or your opponent is going to have to use something to get rid of it and then you just use this, you only really lose one card to obtain big, painful fusion of doom. The only requirement is that you have to have already used the monsters you need.
Either: - use a fusion that has general requirements (ooo, Chimeritech); or, - find some way of milling yourself effectively; or, - be patient.

Dragon's Mirror

5/5

This is only for one kind of deck and thus is perfect. One of the best fusion cards ever. Five-Headed Dragon and King Dragun make this thing what it is.

Turkeyspit Today we kick off with a Super-Special-Awesome Double Review!

Review #1

Dragon's Mirror

I will be getting my 2nd and 3rd copies of Five-Headed Dragon any day now..I'm so excited!

Dragon's Mirror is to Dragon decks, what Overload Fusion is to Machine Decks: a win condition!

In most circumstances, getting a 5000 ATK / 5000 DEF Beatstick to the field means 'GG' for your opponent. Some creative duelists are even mixing both Machines and Dragons in a Cyberdark Dragon deck - one recently made Top 16 at Shonen Jump Montreal, so don't figure that since this deck doesn't run cards with the word 'Monarch' or 'Destiny' that it sucks.

If nothing else, I can see someone activating Dragon's Mirror, summoning Five-Headed Dragon, and then flipping over Return from the Different Dimension, or Ring of Destruction FTW.

And I haven't even mentioned the card "King Dragun" yet ^_^

Dragon's Mirror is an awesome support card for Dragon decks, and is the key to ensuring that they can be at least somewhat competitive.

---------------------------

Traditional:
1/5 - Only one Dragon played in this format, and it don't need no Dragon's Mirror.

Advanced:
4/5 - I can't see anyone building a Dragon-type deck without including Dragon's Mirror and Five-Headed Dragon.

Card Art:
3/5 - "Mirror Mirror on the wall, who is the baddest Dragon of them all?"

Review #2

Spider-Man 3

W0wz0rs..it's finally here! The 3rd Chapter in the Spider-Man Saga, and I so totally can't wait.

Just a couple of points:

- Symbiote Suit > Spider-Man. Parker is such a tool giving up that much power
- Kirsten Dunst as a Redhead, has to be the hottest thing walking on two legs.
- The Sandman! THE SANDMAN! Awesomeness!
- I've learned that Sam Raimi has announced plans for Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6! This means we might see the likes of Mysterio, The Hobgoblin, The Shocker and possible Carnage!

-----------------------------

Traditional:
5/5 - Chaos Emperor Dragon is such a panzy compared to the awesome might of the webslinger

Advanced:
5/5 - Spider-Man would win every SJC he played at, easily defeating the likes of Emon, Lazaro and Glass!

Card Art:
5/5 - "Can he swing, from a ledge? Take a look, overhead, hey there, there goes the Spider-Man!"

Lonely Wolf
Friday, May 4th

Today we look at a card that didn’t have much reason to be played until just recently…..

So, why would you play this card? Well, a 5000/5000 monster (with a rather irrelevant effect) might be why! If you are running a Dragon deck with Masked Dragon, Twin Headed, Exploder, and maybe the Armed or Horus family, along with Future Fusion. You need to run one or two of these. Simple as that!

Geesh….short reviews this week. I don’t think I need to explain when to run this, and when to not!

Traditional: 5/5 (Five Headed Dragon deck only)
Advanced: 5/5 (Five Headed Dragon deck only)
Advanced: 5/5

So today we are looking at Overload… Dragon’s Mirror. See Overload Fusion for Dragons.

Unfortunately we are left with FGD and BEWD as options for it. Now you could make some fun Dragon’s Mirror/Return deck, but from a competitive point of view, you get nothing. The nice part is that it’s not restricted so a full Dragon’s Mirror deck could actually be stable.

Solid Dragon support, heck it makes getting out Blue-Eyes Shining easier….. scratch that idea.

Traditional: 2.75/5
Advanced: 3/5
