Wednesday:
Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World

So we finally get the biggest, baddest Dark World of all.

This card is a great example of giving up versatility for raw power. If your opponent discards this, they're getting Raigeki'd or Feather Duster'd, and you have a 2,500 ATK monster out (Which can beat out monarchs, which is a good thing.) Compare that to Goldd, the usual side deck choice:

Goldd can destroy two of anything, whereas Reign destroys all of one type of card.
Goldd comes just short of beating Monarchs (but can still destroy one of it's out with its effect), and Reign can just beat them outright.
Goldd can still hit the field for free if YOU discard it. Reign can not.
If you're stuck tributing for them, Goldd can do it with one. Reign takes two.

If Graceful Charity were still around, then the obvious choice for side-decking would be Goldd, just for the free summon even if your opponent wasn't discarding. Now it's not so easy of a choice.

In actual Dark World, where you have Dark Deal to force your opponent to discard from your hand, the case could be made for running him in addition to your Goldds and Sillvas. High rish of horrible hands, but high reward if it goes off.

Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World

Dark/Fiend/7/2500/1800

When this card is discarded into Graveyard from hand by effect of opponent's card, special summon this card to the field. When this card is successfully special summon by this effect, destroy all monster or Magic/Trap cards on opponent's field.

The hot new Dark World monster on the block is our card for today, and what a monster he is! Level 7 isn't the best thing in the world, especially with only 2500 attack. (I love Dark Magician, who is a 2500 attack Level 7 and a vanilla, I'm NOT being hypocritical.) However, you don't want to tribute for this guy anyway.

Like most Dark World monsters, you need your opponent to send this guy from your Hand to the Graveyard. Then, you get a 2500 attack Special Summon who has a built in Raigeki OR Harpie's Feather Duster.

Wow, simply amazing. Your opponent will sure regret sending this guy to the Graveyard. The new set sure tried to make Dark World more playable, and with cards like this, they seem to have done well.

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)

I'd like to point out on a closing note that I'm going to the Red Wings game tonight in Detroit, in a pivotal game against Nashville.

Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World :
Ooo. Shiny.

Giving Dark World a field clearing monster seems just wrong. They've already got so much destruction, why give them more? Well, this one isn't actually that good. It doesn't Special Summon off your own discards, and so is useless for most Dark World tricks, so this will probably crop up in side decks just in case the opponent plays heavy hand discard, but will mostly not be summoned.

Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World

LOL WTF.

THIS CARD IS SO FREAKING GOOD. Think about it, Goldd was side decked for decks that frequently discarded cards from your hand (Maybe a deck using Don Zaloogs or something like that).

Also, with Graceful Charity, you could discard a Goldd (or two) and get it (or them) right back to the field! You can't do that with this card, but Graceful Charity was banned anyway so there's no sense in running Goldd or any other DW monster besides this one. Oh, it has a godly effect too.

When it gets discarded from your hand by their effect…you get to Raigeki or Harpies Feather Duster their field? WOW. SIGN ME UP.

SIGN. ME. UP.

No rating -- For side decks it really depends on what you expect people to be playing. If everyone's playing Don Zaloog or something like that, then this obviously would be a 5/5 for your side deck. If not, then its about as useless as trying to dig a whole with a bowling ball.

Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World

I like Goldd better. You can not argue that his effect is absolutely beautiful. But the downside of you opponent discarding him makes for a sad time. Most Dark World Decks function as a result of their owners discards. The unfortunate player is just a bonus. All in all this may make for a good surprise against firestorm or reaper. But I am willing to bet Goldd stay the top dog here.

Turkeyspit Reign-Beaux

Allow me to take this opportunity to gripe about the butchering of Card names when they are translated into English.

In case you didn't know, the names of Dark World Monsters are supposed to be those of particular colours.

Goldd = Gold
Sillva = Silver
Broww = Brown
Beiige = Beige
Brron = Bronze
Scarr = Scarlet
Zure = Azure

You will also note that each card is coloured / wearing coloured clothing that matches their namesake.

In Strike of Neos, we get 3 new Dark World Monsters:

Gren = Green
Khakki = Khaki

And that leaves us with the big guy. The head cheese. The Overlord of Dark World. Now, what would be an appropriate name for an ultimate ruler over a people who use colours for names? Why, Rainbow of course! The spectrum of colours from which all other colours are created.

Sadly though, instead of Rainbow - Overlord of Dark World, what we got was Reign-Beaux! Ugh. Sounds more like the Overlord of Mardis-Gras to me.

But, onto his effect.

If this guy is discarded from your hand by an opponent's card effect, you not only get a 2500 ATK Beatstick to the field, but you get to choose either a Raigeki-type effect, or a Harpies Feather Duster type effect. If however, if you discard Reign-Beaux with a card effect of your own, you get nothing, diddly, squat!

This means:

- No Dark World Lightning
- No Dark World Dealings
- No Morphing Jar (your own)
- No Card Destruction
- No Graceful Charity (traditional)
- No Cheerful Coffin

So, short of Creature Swapping your Morphing Jar to your opponent, or them hitting you with Reaper, Zaloog or Thestalos, you are forced to rely on Dark Deal to get Reign-Beaux out of your hand. That is what we call "situational".

The more likely scenario will be you turfing Reign-Beaux via one of your own discard cards, and then using Gateway to Dark World to afterwards bring him to the field. To me at least, that's not worth the effort

But what about side-decking this guy against a Dark World deck? Well you could, I suppose...but then you run the risk of getting stuck with a two-tribute 2500 ATK Beatstick in your hand. I'd rather run a pair of Sillvas or Goldds then this guy.

--------------------------------------

Traditional:

1/5 - not even Mirage of Nightmare makes this guy good!

Advanced:

2/5 - 200 more ATK then Sillva / Goldd, but too difficult to Special Summon to the field to be played by anyone outside of diehard Dark World players.

Card Art:

3/5 - When Sillva paints with "all the colours of the wind".

Lonely Wolf
After over a year, Dark World gets another heavy hitter, but how will it stack up to Goldd and Sillva?

Reign-Beaux, Overlord of Dark World
Dark/Fiend/7/2500/1800
When this card is discarded into Graveyard from hand by effect of opponent's card, special summon this card to the field. When this card is successfully special summon by this effect, destroy all monster or Magic/Trap cards on opponent's field.

A seven star 2500? That isn’t too good. It gets special summoned when it gets discarded, but ONLY when it’s by the opponent’s card effect. That’s a problem. Unless it’s early game and the opponent hasn’t caught onto you and hits you with a Don or Repear, or you swap over a Morphing Jar, there is almost no way you can get this to work, but if you do…..oh man…..cards are going to fly, either all of your opponents Spell/Traps or all their monsters AND you’ll have a 2500 attack monster to boot. This definitely isn’t as good as Goldd or Sillva, so I would suggest maybe playing ONE of these in a Dark World deck, maybe!!!!

Traditional: 1/5
Advanced (in Dark World): 3/5
Art: 5/5 (This art is SWEET!!!)
