Well, this week we seem to be looking at more cards
from the new set, and today we open with Grandmaster
of the Six Samurai.
This is another attempt to make a completely new
decktype. That's usually a good idea, to give people
the option of playing a whole new type of card. Does
anyone besides me seem to think that these are
perhaps the male answer to the Amazon cards from MFC?
Anyway, our Samurai friend has 2100 attack points, a
little low, but he is only a Level 5 monster. 900
defense is very low, and won't stand up to a whole
lot. Earth and Warrior are both obviously very
supported, so not much else to say there.
However, you aren't suppose to tribute something to
summon the Grandmaster. If you control one of the
other Samurai monsters on the field, you can Special
Summon this guy to the field. That sounds familiar,
a 2100 attack Special Summon...
Though, as we continue, you can only have one
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai on the field at a
time. Remember, he only has 2100 attack points. I
would think that if he were the "Grandmaster" he
might have a few hundred more attack points. Say
2400 or 2500 to make him a bit more competitive.
Furthermore, when this card is destroyed by your
opponent's card effect, you can add one "Six
Samurai" monster from your Graveyard to your Hand.
That's a plus, as it means you are probably going to
force your opponent into attacking as opposed to
some form of Magic or Trap destruction.
Remember, 2100 attack points is low, meaning Cyber
Dragon will suicide into it, and a Monarch will
still send him packing. Since he doesn't get the
effect of returning one of your monsters simply
through battle, be careful.
No rating today. He obviously only belongs in his
own deck, playing him elsewhere would be a waste.
Art: 3.5/5 These guys really do look like male
Amazoness
You stay classy, Planet Earth :) |

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai :
Note how the Grandmaster doesn't sacrifice himself
for his students.
This isn't actually that bad. A Cyber Dragon when
you control a Six Samurai, which I presume a Six
Samurai deck would want to do. When it dies outside
of battle, you get a card back. A solid edition to
the theme.
These Six Samurai actually begin to sound like a
reasonable deck to me.
Traditional: 4/5

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
Before I begin this week of CoTD’s, let me first
apologize for referring to Neo-Spacian Grand Mole as
“Ground Mole”. Thanks to Pojo for pointing this out
last week ;-).
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai…is an interesting
card. Surprisingly, I have a lot of experience
playing against this card. A lot of the players at
my local tournament run Six Samurai decks, and let
me tell you, I really dislike them. They seem like
the kind of deck that rushes you with three or four
monsters at once in the hopes that you don’t have
answers to the overextension. Well, at least that’s
how my locals play the deck.
Clearly this card is amazing for the Six Samurai
deck. Drawing this with any other Six Samurai
monster immediately allows you to use its effect,
without having to wait to normal summon another Six
Samurai monster. Summon The Six Samurai – Yaichi,
then summon this, and pop goes your opponent’s
facedown spell or trap!
Definitely needs to be ran in triplets in a Six
Samurai deck.
5/5 in the only deck it should be ran in, Six
Samurai. |

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
When UDE was teasing us about the upcoming STON
Sneak Preview card, they inferred that it would rock
our world. Well, I must tip my hat to UDE, because
Grandmaster truly is an amazing piece of work.
If this card were splashable in non-Six Samurai
decks, it would be immediately restricted to 1 due
to it's sheer power. Suffice to say that it's home
is in a Six Samurai deck, and without him, I doubt
that the Six Samurai can truly be competitive.
The one weakness of the Six Samurai deck is that you
need to have multiple monsters on the field for any
of their effects to activate. This becomes so much
simpler now that you can Normal summon any of the
Six Samurai, and then Special Summon Grandmaster to
the field. Now that you have 2 Six Samurai monsters
on the field, you can activate the effect of the
first Samurai. And, since you now have 2 Samurai,
you may now Special Summon Great Shogun Shien to the
field for a massive swarm!
Hopefully UDE will find a way to mass reprint this
Promo card so that non-North American players can
get some copies. This card alone makes the Six
Samurai deck a force to contend with.
Nicely done UDE!
------------------------------------
Traditional:
3/5 - I don't know if the Six Samurai could be
competitive in Traditional, but they could give a
typical Chaos Deck a run for it's money.
Advanced:
5/5 - In a Six Samurai deck this card is simply
amazing. You run 3 of these!

It’s Spring Break! Good times! And to top it off, a
bunch of new(er) cards to review!
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
(STON-EN000/STON-ENSP1)
Earth
LV5
ATK/2100 DEF/900
[Warrior/Effect]
You can only have 1 "Grandmaster of the Six Samurai"
monster on your side of the field. While you control
a face-up "Six Samurai" monster, you can Special
Summon this card from your hand. When this card is
destroyed by your opponent's card effect, add 1 "Six
Samurai" monster from your Graveyard to your hand.
I’ll be rating this card for sole use in a Samurai
deck as you should find it NO WHERE else.
2100 attack isn’t the greatest, but it can take a
Cyber Dragon down with it. 900 defense won’t do it
much. This can be special summoned if you have
another samurai on the field, though you can’t have
two grandmasters on the field at once. This works in
sort of the opposite way that Cyber Dragon does. You
generally drop Cyber Dragon, then your Exiled Force,
or DDA, etc. etc. For Grandmaster, you drop your
other Samurai first, then Grandmaster. This Special
Summon is the biggest reason you play this card. It
let’s you play aggressively, and Grandmaster’s
second effect gives your compensation when your
aggressiveness doesn’t pay off the way you would
like it. So if the Smashing Ground, or Sakuretsu,
Mirror Force, or Torrential, you at least get
another Samurai back into your hand so that you can
continue pushing through damage.
Samurai decks usually don’t get to utilize their
true strength unless two of them are out at once,
and Grandmaster helps with this.
Traditional: 4/5
Advanced: 5/5
(Note: Remember, I’m rating Grandmaster for use in
Samurai decks, use Cyber Dragon anywhere else)

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
Great theme support: something that has been
relatively rare. The Grandmaster allows for Cyber
Dragon-like extensions and offense with his 2100 ATK.
Although it is more restrictive requiring you to
possess a Six Samurai, but that shouldn’t be
difficult in the themed deck, and prevents
splashing. The recursive effect is just a bonus
helping to generate card advantage. It can be a
deadweight, but then again that goes for every
tribute monster.
Overall this is a great card for Six Samurai, and
pretty useless elsewhere. I’ll let the others go
into the specifics of its use. I’m just glad to be
seeing proper theme support.
Normal ratings don’t work for themed cards. Cause
outside of the themed deck they tend to be not very
useful, but in the themed deck they are great.
In a Six Samurai deck for both metas: 4/5

Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
(STON-EN000/STON-ENSP1)
5/5
This card is only for one type of deck and as such
only belong there. He is absolutely a ridiculous
support monster that allows for quick field
presence. His attack and defense are decent (he is
really on the field just to promote the decks
stability of always having a samurai on the field).
If he dies it is no big deal b/c he pays for
himself. It is because of monsters like this that I
and many others have hope for this game. A great
step in the right direction.
If anyone wants to trade me some let me know:P |
