Dark Paladin
Friday

Closing out the week, we look at Overload Fusion, another very easy way to summon Chimeratech Over Dragon.

Remove from play, from your Graveyard or your side of the Field, that are listed as Fusion Material monsters on a Dark-Machine type Monster Card and Special Summon that monster. (This Special Summon is treated as Fusion Summon.)

Sounds simple enough. Future Fusion seems to be the way of choice to summon Chimera, but this is a viable second option. This card also opens up a couple of other options for the Chimera user.

It can create a wonderful swarm opportunity. Since the monsters used are Removed From Play, why not combo this with Dimension Fusion or Return From the Different Dimension to be able to get some of those monsters back?

However, Chimera can all ready attack once for each monster you used in the Fusion, so that may not be necessary, but it would still be an awesome thing to do.

Ratings:

4/5 in the Chimera deck
2/5 elsewhere

You stay classy, Planet Earth :)
Bob Doily Overload fusion

Everyone’s favourite otk card….. j/k Restricted as it should have been originally this really helps to control Chimeratech. As it stands now you can only tech this into machine and gadget decks to get a mid-late game drop on the opponent. Trying to make a dedicated otk out of this would probably be cumbersome but it will be attempted.

Some will argue that they should have just banned Chimeratech but I personally don’t think that it is overpowered if the means to get it out are controlled. Besides you could just side a System Down and enjoy their reaction.

Overload Fusion

Without Chimera, Cyberdark, or Gatling Dragon this card is pointless. But these alone make it worthy of play. This is what fusion should be like. A fusion summon should not be a suicidal move. This offers us options without any true drawbacks for machines, Miracle Fusion does the same for E-Hero's, Dragon's Mirror Gives us 5-Headed Dragon and King Dragun. Such a card is a move in the right direction. People will not use their fusion deck unless it makes economic sense to do it. The only way we will ever see polymerization in a deck is if we got a fusion that gave us the game upon summon via Polymerization. I assume that will not happen and as thus expect never to see a fusion monster summoned using anything like polymerization.

Turkeyspit Overload Fusion

The effects of Overload Fusion are nothing new when compared to Dragon's Mirror and Miracle Fusion, both of which have been available for a long time. What makes Overload Fusion so powerful is a little fusion card known as Chimeratech Overdragon (more affectionaly known as Chimeratech OTK Dragon).

This card was the heart and soul of Chimeratech OTK, as it could bring out Chimeratech at any point in the duel so long as you had 1 Cyber Dragon and at least 1 Machine-type monster on the field/in the graveyard.

And as of March 1, it's Restricted to 1 per deck.

I find this rather unfortunate, as cards like Gatling Dragon and Cyberdark Dragon also take a hit to their viability with the restriction of this card.

Given the choice though, I'd rather none of them be played than having to endure 6 more months of Chimeratech OTK decks. Even if Chimeratech had been banned, 3x Overloads and Dimension Fusion / RFTDD could combine to form some sick comboes.

I strongly suspect that Overload Fusion has 'opened the eyes' of many duelists, so expect to see Future Fusion and Dragon's Mirror show up in a Five-Headed Dragon OTK deck near you!

-------------------------------

Traditional:

1/5 - Magical Scientist + Cyber Stein are what you use to get Fusion Monsters to the field.

Advanced:

5/5 - in a deck that revolves around either Chimeratech OTK Dragon, Gatling Dragon or Cyberdark Dragon

1/5 - in everything else (why else would you run it ???)

Overload Fusion

Who isn’t glad this card is restricted?

Overload Fusion is an excellent card. It’s not ‘broken’ at all, just really good. Do Machine decks lose a lot of power? Yes, perhaps. The Chimeratech OTK deck can still run if you run it like Paul Lyn did in SJC Orlando. It’s slower, but it can still work very well.

Last Word: Machines aren’t dead. They just took a hit. Chimeratech isn’t dead either. Gadgets/Machine decks still have this excellent card as a win condition to turn the game around.
