Wow, talk about one of the worst card names ever,
with an equally craptacular picture.
Pulling the Rug, however, isn't quite as bad a card
as its name or picture may suggest. It's a one for
one, and that's usually a good thing.
It simply destroys a Normal Summoned effect monster
who has their effect go off upon being summoned.
Now, this means that your opponent shouldn't get the
effect, unless that monster has priority over your
Trap card.
Not much else to say about this card. Is it main
deck worthy?
Perhaps...it depends on how big of a problem this is
for you. If you run into this problem a lot, side
one of these and see how it works for you.

2.5/5 all around

Pulling the Rug :
And I thought House of Adhesive Tape had a weird
picture...
I personally read this as "Negate target Monarch."
Yu-gi-oh rather likes making specific counters (i.e.
Griffon's Wing, Anti-Raigeki) and this seems an
evolution of them into something vaguely playable. A
counter trap deck should love this, and it does do
rather well against Monarchs, among other things I'm
sure another writer will list.
Yes, I am that lazy (though laziness has nothing to
do with my lack of articles).

Pulling the Rug
A good card. A very, very good card.
Effect is simple; it basically reads “kills Monarchs
and Gadgets”. This is currently a side deck staple
for me, as so many people are still playing heavy
Monarch, and it’s certainly a good option for
Gadgets, too. This combined with Gravekeeper’s Spy
and all of the other good Anti-Gadget strategies
will give the Gadget duelist some pretty big
problems.
It feels good to have good cards like this one
coming in at a time like this when we really need
it, this is one of the best available options
against Monarchs and Gadgets, so make sure you get
your play set soon!
4/5. |

Aegis of Gaia
If Cyber Stein was legal I'd expect it to see some
play. As a side deck choice for end of match
procedure it will totally own. Last Turn is banned
and as such the only deck I can see relevance in is
Injection Fairy Lily. I am curious where the risk
comes? It is a minus one (no big deal cause 3000 LP
can alter a game state) that can laugh in the face
of a burn deck (another good option to side against)
that gives you 3000 free LP. If you lose 3000 to its
removal your back were you should be?
3/5
As a side deck choice it has some application. 3000
LP makes me want to give it more than a 2 thus a 3
is pushing it. |

Pulling the Rug
One of the best Side-Deck cards in
the game right now, in my opinion. I often refer to
Strike of Neos as the “Side-Deck set” because of all
the great Side-Deck options it has given us players.
Pulling the Rug comes out on top as
the Gadget and Monarch killer. In my opinion, it is
MUCH deadlier against Gadgets which rely more on
that constant tempo than anything else.
I have yet to see a majority rule of
Gadgets decks in my area; have they died out?
In any case, Monarchs are still out
there on the stomping grounds (as slow as they are
these days). Pulling the Rug is still an excellent
counter for Monarchs. I’ll go out on a limb and say
it’s an auto-include in your Side-Deck just to
handle the Gadget or Monarch match-up. If you’re
lucky enough to go up against the Gadget/Monarch
hybrid then you have double the strategic advantage
with Pulling the Rug as a counter weapon.
Last Word:
It’s an auto-include in every one of
Side-Decks. I feel that as long as Gadgets and
Monarchs exist in this format you should be playing
3 of these in the side. It’s a little opinionated I
know, but I have a good feeling on this one. ^_^

I’m going to be going over some
more additional details of the Gathering Place Games
cash tournament in Orlando next weekend on the 31st

Don’t forget to stop by and leave
a comment.
Also, I’ll be posting some details
about my testing last night and the results I got.

Pulling the Rug
I have been waiting for this card for the longest
time. Suffice to say that this card is exactly what
this game needed.
Unless you have been living under a rock for the
past 12 months, you may have noticed that a certain
decktype has dominated the Metagame, and that
decktype has been Monarchs. The ability to generate
card advantage simply by being tribute summoned
successful makes the Monarch an unparalled creature,
and ensures that it's owner is always 1 step ahead
of his opponent.
I mean let's face it, assuming a Monarch player
tributes his Treeborn Frog / another Floater, what
response can you have?
- Bottomless Trap Hole? Still a +1 for the Monarch
Player
- Solemn Judgement? A 1-for-1, but you pay half your
LPs
- Horn of Heaven? +1 for Monarchs
The truth is that we never had a card that could
counter Monarchs and even out the advantage at the
same time; that is, until this card came out.
Pulling the Rug turns the Monarch negation into a
straight 1-for-1. Add to that it's classification as
a 'Counter Trap' which prevents your opponent from
chaining Royal Decree or Ring of Destruction, and
you have the perfect counter to Monarchs. It gets
better though. Pulling the Rug also serves to
counter:
- Gadgets
- Breaker the Magical Warrior (another reason why it
didn't need to be banned)
- Dark Dust Spirit
- Dark Magician of Chaos (assuming your opponent
activates his trigger effect)
- Destiny Hero Dreadmaster (!)
- Tsukuyomi (if he should ever be unbanned)
- Elemental Hero Stratos (!)
etc...
Make sure to leave room in your side-deck for this
card!
----------------------------------------
Traditional:
2/5 - not too much to use this card on actually.
Advanced:
4/5 - it only counters certain cards, but those
certain cards are the backbone of 3 of the 4 top
tier decks.
Card Art:
3/5 - Tatami Mats =/= Rugs. They should have kept
the old name of Flipping the Mat.

Today we look at a pretty good card and it combats a
few of the most widely used monsters of the format!
STON-EN060
PULLING THE RUG
[Counter Trap Card]
Negate the activation and effect of an Effect
Monster whose effect activated when a monster was
Normal Summoned (even itself), and destroy that
Effect Monster.
Quite simply, this card is anti-priority. Negates
Exiled, Breaker, Snipe Hunter, and many more. It
also negates a lot of Trigger effects like Monarchs
and Gadgets. Basically, whenever a monster is
summoned and your opponent uses his/her priority to
activate a monster effect, all you have to do is
activate this and you negate it.
This could easily fit into any side deck as an anti
monarch and/or gadget card, and it is a godsend for
Counter Fairy decks, who got A LOT of support in the
Strike of Neos expansion.
Once again, sorry for the short review, but this
card doesn’t have much to be explained. It is simply
a good card.
Traditional: 3/5
Advanced: 5/5 (for non-Counter Fairy side decks, and
Counter Fairy main decks)

Pulling the Rug
An interesting card. Nuke an effect monster that was
normal summoned if its effect activates when normal
summoned. Wow specific. Another counter trap to add
to the list. I’d rather just use Solemn Judgment the
versatility is far worth it if you plan to run a
counter trap. At least this offers no additional
cost.
