Vengeful Shinobi is our first card in another
shortened week, and it's the best card of the three
cards we review this week...and sadly, that isn't
saying a whole lot. So, we have a Level 2,
Dark/Warrior type monster with 400 atk and 800 def.
Now, when this face-up attack position card is
selected as an attack target, you get to Draw one
card from your Deck. Drawing is usually a good
thing, as long as it involves you, but I think we
have better options available. Of course, the
unfortunate words (face-up attack
position) were included here.
If we were looking at something that said (when this
card is
attacked...) Did I say this was the BEST card? What
the hell was I thinking?
Ratings:
Traditional: 1.25/5 Dark/Warrior...maybe not
completely useless.
Advanced: 2/5 Maybe, just maybe, in a few off the
wall, turbo

Vengeful Shinobi
This little guy got me all riled up when I first saw
him, mostly because he doesn't need to be attacked
in order for you to draw a card, just declared as a
target. Thus, Dimension Wall, Waboku, Necro Gardna,
Magic Cylinder, Mirror Force, Sakuretsu Armor,
Dimensional Prison, Draining Shield, Enemy
Controller and even Security Orb all will net you a
draw with the Shinobi. This combined with his
searchability (Sangan, RoTA, Mystic Tomato) and the
fact that you can pack your deck with these cards,
he will net you a lot of cards as well as possibly a
Tribute to tribute him off and net you even more
advantage.
Unfortunately the format is far too fast for a deck
like this right now, and the opponent will just
blast the little guy with Dark Armed Dragon, Brain
Control or even Lightning Vortex. He has nice
tricks, and once the format slows down he could be
cool to use, but he's just too slow.

Vengeful Shinobi
Wow, it's been awhile. I blame society.
Anyway, Vengeful Shinobi is one of those cards that
looks decent at first sight, but then you remember
Book of Moon is at two, and with Monarchs as they
are, there's no way this guy's going center stage
anytime soon. Now he is a Warrior - which is good
since he's now easily searched. I don't know why you
would want to search him but hey, maybe you got some
crazy strategy.
Basically - with any luck - you'll be dumping some
Life Points to draw a card. Nine out of ten duelists
will tell you they'd be willing to drop a thousand
LP for a card, but unfortunately when you add extra
conditions to that, the idea becomes considerably
less appealing.
All in all, I can see Exodia decks featuring this,
and maybe even a few stall decks, but I doubt
this'll really see any big tournament play. It's
just not worth the effort.
Traditional: 1.5/5 (He's dark, that gets him half a
point)

So…where should we start from?
400 ATK is not likely to survive any attack, but
it’s effect activates during battle step. It will
be a safe bet to assume that Shinobi will let you
draw a card even when a replay occurs.
With majority of the games ending
in couple turns, risking a game loss with a
miserable 400 ATK monster does seem risky. Often,
this card will just pay for itself and die, leaving
you with less than 8000 LP for sure.
However, some support cards could
abuse this card’s activation requirement. Since the
Shinobi does not require the completion of battle,
use of nifty cards can circumvent many obstacles.
For example, Astral Barrier could keep Vengeful
Shinobi on the field for extra 400 LP. Although
this is certainly not the best combination that you
can establish with 2 certain cards, there are worse
combinations.
Throw in Spirit Barrier, and your
opponent cannot attack the Shinobi. Of course, this
3-card combo “phails” competitively. Who knows?
Maybe UDE will make “Shinobi” support later, and
this card will be as good as Smashing
Ground…hopefully.

Wednesday - Vengeful Shinobi
Now the crew's back with a review on a PTDN
card: Vengeful Shinobi. This card's effect has the
potential of being good, but the attack stats and
the part of the card text that says "this face-up
attack position card" kind of ruins any chances this
card has of being played in competitive decks.
Vengeful Shinobi is a card that allows you to draw 1
card when it's targeted for an attack when it's
face-up and in attack position. This is simply of no
use at all because of the weak attack stats of the
monster, and how easily the opponent can take
advantage of this card standing face-up in attack
position on your field. The draw would be cool, but
wasting a couple life points for it isn't worth it,
especially when it's in the form of a monster, where
you have to also waste a summon in order to carry
out its effect. Overall, this card isn't useful in
most cases, and it probably won't ever see play in
competitive tournaments.
