Dark Paladin

Tuesday

Obsidian Dragon is a rather nice monster for those of your playing Dark Decks right now.  Before we look at an effect, let's look at some stats.  Obsidian Dragon is a Dark monster who despite having Dragon in his name is a Rock monster with 800 atk and 2100 def.

Let's talk about that...2100 defense in a Level 4 (with no negative

effect) is awesome.  2100 defense is enough to defend against most anything commonly played that doesn't require a tribute, aside from the rare Goblin Attack (and Elite) Force.  2100 defense can also stand up to Cyber Dragon, although his play has decreased some.

Now, onto the effect.  As long as Obsidian Dragon is face up on the Field, negate all Monster, Magic, and Trap effects that target Dark monsters on your side of the Field, and destroy that card.  In short, that's reasonably solid protection out of a card that can hold it's own, at least for a while.

Ratings:

Traditional:  2.75/5  Not completely useless, and people play more targeting cards here.

Advanced:    3.75/5  Welcome protection for an all ready (over)powered

theme.

Well, at least they tried. This is what I get when most people talk to me about Obsidian Dragon. It prevents targeting of your DARK monsters by S/T cards. Well ok, since only four or so cards target in the average DAD deck, this card is just not all it's cracked up to be. A decent first turn set for DARK decks, as he is basically invincible from his own effect unless they bring out a beater.

Not a bad card by any means, but I prefer Dark Illusion, as it kills whatever tried to target, so that DAD, Raiza or Zaborg is sent to the afterlife instead of breaking through your defense. Since a DAD deck is capable of going so fast, this card would likely only slow you down.

Obsidian Dragon

This card has an interesting effect. Unfortunately, it's far too slow to be of any use right now. It does have the nifty effect of protecting your other Dark monsters from cards like Sakuretsu Armor, Brain Control, and etc. But due to its sub-par Attack and being a very slow card in general, I can't see it ever being incredibly useful outside of casual play.

obsidian dragon is a nice piece of tech for dark decks. especially because the shadow monarch does extra damage against it. this is a great idea for a side deck, as it schools monarchs.

both of these are for a dark side deck.
