After a few craptacular weeks, I tried to put
together a week of good cards we hadn't reviewed
yet, so I hope I didn't disappoint :)
We open the week with a Field Magic card that has
gotten a lot of hype from the new set, Secret
Village of the Spellcasters. It's definitely a card
that gives a nice boost to Spellcaster players, but
is it any good in the current Format? Arguably.
If you control a Spellcaster-type monster, your
opponent cannot activate Magic cards. If you control
no Spellcaster-type monsters, you cannot activate
Magic cards. While the Format favors monsters that
come hard and attack and destroy your cards, it's
possible that a Field Magic card could actually stay
on the Field for a while.
Obviously playing a Spellcaster Deck, you shouldn't
have much of a problem keeping one or more on the
Field so this card doesn't bite you in the ass.
There are plenty of powerful Magic cards out there,
and preventing your opponent from playing them is
definitely a good thing.
While Spellcasters aren't the most popular Deck
right now, this is a good card you should be playing
a couple of if you are running the Deck.

Secret Village of the
Spellcasters
This is a one-sided Imperial Order. WOW.
Unfortunately, the game right now is usually based
on monsters and what they can do to the field
instead of the spells that were used for DAD-Return
to win. It is still good, forcing an opponent to
deal with the village before they can play any of
their spells.
Lyla, Breaker, DAD, JD and Bestiari all say hello to
this card, but it is certainly frustrating to play
against, as you have to sit and wait to draw an
answer and while you are waiting, you got Kycoo,
Magical Exemplar and who knows what else beatingyou
down.
There is a cute little combo with Jowgen the
Spiritualist and Royal Decree that essentially locks
your opponent into battle. Very nice, as Jowgen is
LIGHT and can be used with Honest for a surprise
defense, Eventually you will just be able to attack
for ganewith this setup.
This is definitely a great card, but is kind of meh
right now. Regardless, I fully expect DP to give
this thing a 5/5 so I guess I'll follow and do the
same thing :)

The Secret Village is an awesome card in Crossroads
of Chaos. As long as you have a Spellcaster on the
field, your opponent is restricted to monsters and
traps. It would be best if the Spellcaster player
uses this first turn to stop the opponent's draw
cards like Allure and Destiny Draw. If someone
summons a Caius, they'll have to go for the Village
instead of your monster. Using Dark Bribe and
Solemns will help protect the village and negate
anything extra the opponent has. This card will help
Spellcasters, but will not stop Teleport Dark Armed,
Gladiator or Lightsworn decks because of the monster
effects.

Secret Village of the
Spellcasters
This card is amazing. Absolutely amazing. To be able
to completely shut down your opponent, simply
because they have no Spellcasters on the field, is
absolutely amazing. It's main drawback is the fact
that it's a field spell card, but that can be
rendered inconsequential with the amount of damage
this thing can do. Any and all combo decks are
completely shut down, and with no major spellcaster
monsters making Top-16 appearances right now, and no
major Spellcaster decks doing well right now, the
format is prime for this card to eat it alive.
This card will even make a dent in Traditional play,
due to the high level of Spellcasters out now.

Super Rare
Todayʼs card up for review is Secret Village Of
The Spellcasters. This card alone makes Spellcasters
semi playable. This card is ridiculous in power. All
of the top decks being used right now rely on using
their spell cards to win, so this seems pretty cool
eh? Sure they could just kill your Spellcaster, and
there goes the combo, but this can be
fixed/prevented rather easy. You shouldnʼt have a
problem keeping your spell caster on the board if
you go with a certain build that is floating around
right now. It uses stuff like Skill Drain and Royal
Oppression to further cripple your opponent. I
really want someone to break Spellcasters. I feel
they now have the potential to compete!
