Ojama Trio, though I'll refer to it as err...Ojama Trio, is always been a rather interesting card. A card that prevents your opponent from using three of thier monster card zones, gives them untributed tokens (at least for tributing) and does slight burn.

I haven't seen anyone use Otaku Trio in an even longer time than I have seen someone play Just Desserts. It has its advantages...it can slow down certain Decks, and it will definitely annoy the hell out of your opponent.

It's best place, obviously is in a Burn or an Ojama Deck, but I'm not sure if these days you would see it in either Deck, or even see an Ojama Deck for that matter. It can be fun to use however.

Otaku

Sometimes I choose more appropriate cards than I realize at the time of selection.  I like the Ojama Trio.  I didn’t care for them in what little I saw of Yu-Gi-Oh GX but it was Yu-Gi-Oh GX, so does that count?  The dub for that matter…  To the point, being the fat guy at the party who (when not hiding) is instead always in the way and being obnoxious (usually because I don’t think things through, not because I am trying to be rude) I totally relate to these little fellows that Harpie Lady 1 apparently likes to hunt with a whip.

Why are you looking at me that way?

Anyway, according to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki the name “Ojama” is derived from the Japanese phrase “Ojamashimasu” and is said by people entering a room unexpectedly and means “Pardon me for intruding”.  I’ll have to remember that.  I will also have to remember that (if the site is correct) we are getting more Ojama support including two new Ojama and a Field Spell for them!  Happy New Year, yeah!

The card Ojama Trio has sadly been restricted to one per deck.  I’ll be honest, I can’t remember why.  If there was a OTK or something equally annoying with them… can we ban a different card to kill it? Please?  Oh well, this card has a few uses, but loses many of them with its restriction to a lone copy per deck.  The classic use is in a burn deck: eat up some space, get off as many copies of Just Desserts as you can, and if they are low enough on LP just nuke them yourself to score another 900 points of damage.

What else are they good for?  Well, locking down the field.  I never got it stable enough to work, but I tried to use them in conjunction with Spatial Collapse to lock an opponent down to just “from hand” Monster cards.  Of course, back then I could use multiple copies and Xin Zhen Hu if I wanted to make sure it was a real lock.  Now you have to use Xin Zhen Hu or both recycle Ojama Trio and burn a card or attack to make room for the next three Tokens.  Once you do, then only a handful of “from hand” card effects can be used, and usually not to great effect.  The hard part was making sure your opponent didn’t just suicide the Tokens to get rid of them: with 0 ATK and only 1000 DEF, they weren’t very durable.  I did it by using Inaba White Rabbit to attack the opponent directly, then letting it bounce itself to my hand.  Of course, now such a deck is nearly impossible to run.

So, is there anything else?  Yes, but again it is a diminished role.  Several decks love your opponent to have weak things to destroy in battle.  Decks with Windstorm of Etaqua, Zero Gravity, Level Limit – Area A, Enemy Controller etc. can shift the little critters into ATK position.  Trample still loves them as 1000 DEF isn’t that high and you’ll get a rebate of 300 points of damage thanks to the burn effect.  Monsters that can attack each of your opponent’s Monsters loved them when combined with something to grant them trample or shift their position.  The tokens are also good for effects that triggered “then this card destroys a Monster in battle” (Fenrir) and even the effect of another Ojama support card, Ojamuscle.

Like most cards, its restrictions greatly reduced its usefulness.

Art: 4/5 – Appropriate.  Creepy, but appropriate.

For the record, my favorite is Ojama Green because that is my favorite color.  My second favorite is Ojama Black because that is my second favorite color.  My third favorite color is pink… no Ojama for that (though Ojama Red is one of the new ones).  I am fond of most (artificial) yellow flavors (e.g. lemon, banana) and even those fruits for real… but I really don’t like Ojama Yellow.  The eyestalks just creep me out.  It figures that is the shape they pick for the generic “Ojama”.  Not that I wouldn’t take Ojama Yellow as a Duel Spirit if Duel Spirits weren’t real, possibly over better cards.  Yes, I finally start to live up to my screen name as I have contemplated this: how if for some reason I had Light and Darkness Dragon as a Duel Spirit I’d trade it to Chazz for the Ojama Trio.  I don’t even care that much for nor know that much about Yu-Gi-Oh GX as most episodes only aired on Cartoon Network in our area and I don’t get cable.  In fact, most of what I know of it comes from the poorly translated video games.  For some reason, I want a series of cards inspired by the tentacles from Maniac Mansion to be released in Yu-Gi-Oh, and for them to be Ojama compatible.

Perhaps it is good I am going to be away for a while…

Happy New Year!

Anteaus Ojama Trio

Take up three of your opponents monster slots with three tokens (0 ATK and 0 DEF), who when they die deal 300 damage to your opponent. There's not much I can say about this card other than it's absolutely amazing. Burn decks took a real beating when they restricted this card, but this comboed with Just Desserts is simply a great combo that I've seen many a Burn deck utilize. However, UDE has decided that Burn is not a legitimate playstyle and has since decided to ban and or limit all the key components to a good burn deck, so don't expect to see this guy around much.
