ATK/300 DEF/1300

When you take Battle Damage while this card is in your Graveyard, remove it from play. Then, if there is a FIRE monster other than "Volcanic Counter" in your Graveyard, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the amount of Battle Damage you took.

Dark Paladin
Wednesday

All right, we look at Volcanic Counter today, and I can't help but wonder why this was a Super Rare. Our Fire friend has 300 attack and 1300 defense, and is a Level 3 monster, with all the rights, privileges, and advantages there of.

Now, if you take Battle Damage while this card is in your Graveyard, and remove Volcanic Counter from play, and have at least one other Fire monster in your Graveyard, your opponent takes the same amount of Battle Damage you just received.

This really isn't a bad thing, but it's not that good of a thing either. Assuming you are using three, and use it three times, well that turned out quite fortunate. It would be awesome if you did this for a large amount of damage each time, say 1000 points or more...and ideally you would win the Duel.

Ratings:

No ratings...it goes in a Volcanic Deck, or nowhere. I have mixed feelings about this card, but it does something, and it could do it very well...or not.

Volcanic Counter

This is an interesting burn card...not huge, but enough that heavy Volcanic decks (not just Volcanic Monarch) might play it.

Essentially, it's half of a Cylinder if you have it in the Graveyard and the opponent attacks. However, it doesn't appear to be an optional effect, so the opponent could intentionally attack with weak monsters to force its use, or make attacks that overpower your monsters by a small amount (e.g. Cyber Dragon over Volcanic Rocket). It can be worked around, to the point where the damage being done probably isn't worth giving up card presence to get it in the Graveyard.

I don't see it seeing any SJC play any time soon...

General Zorpa Volcanic Counter

A decent card for Volcanic decks, as you can remove him from play in your graveyard in order to make your opponent take any battle damage that you take as well. He has decent enough stats, but is just not what Volcanic Decks are looking for. They want ways to destroy stuff, not do damage. In the existing Volcanic Monarchs deck, this is almost useless. I am waiting though for a person to make a dedicated Volcanic deck in order to make this card shine to it's true potential.

David "BobDole" Hoffman Well, I'm hardly a burn expert, but I guess I can give this a shot.

I've been hearing mucho about Volcanic monsters. However, I get the suspicion that this one of the ones making an impact. It's a 300/1300 FIRE/Pyro with what seems to be a mediocre effect.

- The unfortunate thing about this is, if your opponant remembers it's there, it's not going to do much. He'll just make sure to not hit you hard enough to kill himself. I do appreciate the remove from game factor, as it fits many builds going around, but burn does not really base itself heavily off this mechanic. Chances are that in a burn/fire deck, you're going to have plenty of opportunity to get this effect off.

Honestly the best thing I can think of doing with this is ending the game in a tie. Chances are though, that's not going to happen. Depending on your opponant to hit you hard enough to hurt himself is kind of a bad strategy. I suppose it does have its uses, but I'd much rather run some form of stall or burn in a deck focusing around those mechanics. If this stopped the battle damage and redirected it, it would certainly be more appealing. Unfortunately, it doesn't. It just doesn't do it's job well enough.

Traditional:1/5 Don't. Just don't.

Advanced: 1.5/5 Just because it can do something I guess. Kinda.

Volcanic Counter
We review another interesting card that really peaked my interest into playing after receiving an email about classic burn and after pulling this card from a pack I bought last week. Here are the pros about Volcanic Counter and how you should or might use it in a future deck involving this card:
  1. Volcanic Counter is a Fire monster so you can use cards such as Royal Firestorm Guard from Gladiator's Assault to dump 3 copies of this card and another Volcanic or FIRE monster (Volcanic Shell?) to use the 3 copies of Volcanic Counter 3 times after different timings when you take battle damage.
  2. Use Foolish Burial to dump it into the graveyard and activate its effect when your opponent inflicts battle damage to you.
  3. Can be searched by UFO Turtle since it is a FIRE monster with 300 ATK.
  4. When you take battle damage to your LP, it must be removed from play in your graveyard and if there is a FIRE monster other than Volcanic Counter in your graveyard, you inflict damage to your opponent equal to the amount of damage you took.
  5. A good fit for the deck I call "Super Volcanic Burn", where you don't play defense, but you play offensively while you want to take battle damage.
Volcanic Counter will soon be found in a couple of Volcanic Burn decks at Regionals and maybe even Shonen Jumps since it is such an effective and powerful card. If you have a deck idea and/or combo around this card, please feel free to email your deck/idea to pathoon@aol.com.

Ed Wednesday - Volcanic Counter

Today, Wednesday, we're reviewing a card from the Volcanic Theme, which for a somewhat short amount of time, showed us it could become competitive when mixed with other competitive themes. Volcanic counter, however, isn't too great of a card. In desperate situations, though, I could definitely see this card coming in handy, but not in normal situations. It's just not enough to be included in any deck, not even Volcanic decks. It might even just be included because it matches the theme, or just to fill up the deck to the 40 card count. It's not completely horrible, though, since it has the ability to free a player from a tight situation. That's all I have to say about this card.

Pwii Happy Wednesday! Wednesdays are right about when I finally get used to doing school again. Wednesdays are a very hectic day for me. on a side note, my birthdays coming up, and I am accepting gifts....just kidding >;P !

Anyways, volcanic counter is a new volcanic support. although, it's not as good as it was intended to be, bcuz shell would rather be removed by it's own effect. It absolutely does not fit in to any burn/stall decks, because it cant remove itself.

3.5/5 volcanic deck both formats.

1/5 other
