Monday
Continuing from last week, we're still looking at
the top 10 cards of the year 2007! It's a little
odd, at least for me, as we reviewed most if not all
of these cards in the last six months, or more
recently.
Anyway, this week is #5 to #1 and that brings us to
today's card...#5
Il Bud
IL Bud is a very nice monster and a good addition to
a Zombie Deck, despite being a Gemini monster. It is
Level 6, and only has 2100 attack points, which
isn't the best of things, and neither is only having
800 defense. However, 800 defense is able to be
searched out by Pyramid Turtle.
The ability to Special Summon a Zombie from your
Hand or either player's Graveyard, even once per
turn, is a good effect, as long as you have the
necessary monster to summon (eg, something worth
summoning.) The biggest downfall here isn't being a
Gemini, it's the non standard 2400 attack for a one
tribute monster.
IL Bud was definately, and continues to be a
Groundbreaking Monster for Zombies.
Ratings:
Traditional: 3/5 Gemini's may not work well here,
but Zombies work pretty well despite Chaos, Magical
Scientist, and all the One Turn Kills.
Advanced: 4/5 Great card and still very solid, even
competitively.

Il Blud
Easily the most expensive card in
Yu-Gi-Oh! until Necroface came out, it is
one of two playable Gemini monsters. It's
2100 ATK and great Zombie swarming effect
make it easy to see why this guy was
sporting a $200 or so price tag. Now he has
kind of fallen out of favor, as the combos
that the Zombie deck can pull out area
readily counterable by the LaDD deck. He in
conjunction with Zombie Master finally
brought Zombies back into the limelight and
even though the zombie deck has been pushed
to the wayside, I can see it being tier 1
for a long time, so don't trade those Il Bluds
yet folks!

Level 6
2100 ATK/800
DEF
This card

field or in the Graveyard. While this card is
face-up on the field, you can Normal Summon it to
have it be treated as an Effect Monster with this

•Once per

from your hand or from either player's Graveyard.

One of
the cards that match up to the “hype.”
I do
not think Il Blud was the key card for the rise of
the Zombies. It was the Zombie Master that did it.
However, Il Blud definitely helped – free Special
Summon from EITHER PLAYER’S GRAVEYARD OR YOUR HAND??
Sure,
2100 ATK is never considered “high” with Cyber
Dragon and Monarchs appearing in 2’s and 3’s. But
if we played monsters solely for ATK, then Goblin
Attack Force would be a staple and Majestic Mech –
Ohka would be a broken card. This card solved many
problems that Zombie decks had.
First,
for an explosively aggressive card, Gravekeeper’s
Spy blocked a game-winning turn and turned the table
around simply by spinning a high level Zombie-Type
monster. Special Summoning another blocker is
brutal.
Then,
this card easily became a free Book-of-Life with
beefy ATK. Special Summon with Pyramid Turtle,
Normal Summon, Special Summon Pyramid Turtle, draw a
card(s), ram Pyramid Turtle, grab Spirit Reaper, and
take out a card = ouch.
Personally, I believe Il Blud is overrated slightly,
because it does not grant Zombie decks like…*cough*
tomorrow’s card *cough*. Yes, of course Il Blud is
a good card. It certainly is evolutionary. But is
it revolutionary? Not enough, in my opinion.
Traditional: 1.5/5 Too slow.
Advanced: 3/5 You can never had too many of
recursion. |

Il Blud
Even though this card is crazy good and the
best gemini monster created yet, personally I
hate Zombies since they are so annoying and just
won't die and stop swarming. It gets even more
bothering if your opponent uses Neo-Spacian
Grand Mole, which is wickedly killer and broken.
Very good at special summoning and swarming out
Zombies. I would only want to have this card in
my collection only because it is high in value
currently and you can trade or sell a lot just
for it. Hard to find, though.
Traditional: 1.25 (Gets easily
killed by Chaos)
Advanced: 4.25/5 (Zombies only)

Monday – Il Blud
Today's card is a key card to the famous
Zombie theme that comes from the same set as Zombie
Master, which is another key card that made this old
theme competitive again. Il Blud is a 1-Tribute 2100
Gemini monster, which isn't good at all at first.
This card is the KEY to swarming efficiently with
Zombies, next to the obvious source Zombie Master.
This guy's a tribute and you have to wait a turn,
but Zombie Master can discard this card easily and
then it can be prematured or called and then
summoned again. There are numerous ways to activate
this guy's effect, and they're all not too hard to
do. Even if you don't manage to get this guy's
effect out, you can still use the other Zombie's to
swarm while you try to find a way. Il Blud is
definitely a step down from Zombie Master, but it's
still pretty consistent. I mean, it can summon ANY
level Zombie onto the field. This means Vampire
Lord, Ryu Kokki, and more can all me special
summoned along with maybe another Il Blud. Multiples
of this card bring out the full potential of the
Zombie theme. A staple in Zombie decks.
Traditional: 1.1/5 – MAYBEE. It's DARK attribute,
but who would run a 5-star Gemini Zombie in a Chaos
deck?
Advanced: 5/5 – In a zombie deck
Art: 3/5 – Uhh…is it just me, or does it look more
like a clown than a zombie? |
