Dark Paladin

Wednesday

For the mid-week, we look at Tutalin, a Level 8 Fairy monster of the Light attribute with 2800 attack and 2500 defense.

Tutalin, in short, is incredible.  Level 8 requires two tributes in order to be summoned, but Tutalin has a "Get out of your Hand free clause," so to speak.  If you controlled two or more monsters that were all destroyed and sent to the Graveyard in the same turn, you can Special Summon Tutalin from your Hand...

During your opponent's Battle Phase, no less.  Tutalin just screams for abuse being able to storm down on your opponent during their turn!  If that wasn't enough, when Special Summoned in that way, you choose an Attribute, and all monsters of that Attribute are destroyed.

So, Tutatlin comes with a very handy Special Summon clause, a very welcome destruction ability, but that isn't all!  Tutalin also prevents your opponent from Normal OR Special Summoning any monsters of the chosen Attribute.

Three incredible effects, a very solid attack of 2800 to match other powerhouses of its Level.  Tutalin is an awesome card for Fairies.

Ratings:

Traditional:   2.5/5  Maybe some potential here.  Imagine using that

monster to prevent Chaos.

Advanced:  4.25/5  Brought down a bit by not getting the effect it tributed, but the Special Summon shouldn't be too difficult.

Wednesday:
Tualatin

This is an oddly specific requirement for a monster that really isn't worth its effect.

If you have two monsters on the field, and they're both getting cleared out, odds are it's not being done by battle.  Let's look at what decks are being played and how they'd get rid of your field under normal circumstances, assuming you have two monsters on the field:
*Gladiator Beasts:  Attack one, tag out for another at the end of the Battle Phase and kill the other, or Gyzarus wipes them out.
*DAD:  Dark Armed Dragon drops and kills them with its effect without needing to battle through.
*Cornarchs:  Soul exchange one to Caius away the other, or just tribute for Caius to remove one and attack over the other.

This card won't get to activate its effect very often, and single monsters are still easily destroyed or removed, so its mini-lockdown effect won't do all that much either.

General Zorpa Tualatin

Well he is a big 2800 level 8 Fairy. This is important as an aggressive Fairy deck is about to be born with the introduction of Valhalla, Hall of the Fallen and Athena. Trade-In works with it and it keeps up with the other 2-tribute monsters of the format, Dark Magician of Chaos and Darklord Zerato. But his effect is where it gets cool.

When two of your monsters are on the field and destroyed by battle you get to Special Summon him, then you declare an attribute, and destroy all monsters of that attribute and your opponent can't play any more of that attribute. This Prohibition-like effect is almost impossible to pull off, but against a Lightsworn or DARK deck, you can destroy their plays.

Mostly you will be using him as a beatstick with Valhalla and Athena, but in the unlikely event that his effect DOES go off, it should give you some serious leverage in the game. You can even declare WIND or DARK against Gladiators, robbing them of their best 2 cards and slowing their momentum.

There are tons of uses for this card, almost as many as a card we will review later this week and I almost expect someone to make it good in the next couple of months.

This card reads like an equation.  The result of which does not compute.  The likelihood of 2 separate monsters being destroyed by battle and being sent to the graveyard on your opponents turn is extremely low.  The effect is incredible, but the activation requirements put this monster into the Great Dezard / Fushioh Richie category….cool idea, but unlikely.

The card

This card is a decent card, but what is the chance of two of your monsters dying by battle this format? It's almost impossible. If you can get this off against a Dark deck, Light deck such as Light sworn or Counter fairies, then this cards would completely destroy them. Ir would clear their whole field and then they would not be able to Normal Summon Or special Summon monsters with that Attribute which leaves them with a clear field and letting you have a big 2800 attacker to keep beating them down with it. It's almost like a Raigeki, but it has to be face-up monsters. That is also one of it's flaws, because it will not touch the face-down monsters which leaves you open to Ryko, Light sworn Hunter and many other dangerous Face Down Monsters.

The main problem is having them attack both your monsters in battle when most likely your monsters will be destroyed by an effect, trap, or magic. In this format a lot of cards are destroyed by the main cards such as Judgment Dragon, Dark Armed Dragon, and Gladiator Beast Gyzarus. This means that Tualatin is gone to be most likely not useful at all. If you end up playing the best deck this format which is Gladiator beast, you will never get Tualatin off no matter how hard you try and even if you do Gladiator Beasts have so many different Attributes, and most different types of decks are like that. For example, monarch decks have all sorts of attributes and Tualatin will only do so much and may end up dead and even if it goes up it won't be as effect, but it will still clear an opponents field and may get some pluses for you, but like I said it is very difficult to get out. Trust me if it was easier to get out, everyone would run  or side this card for how good it can be.

Advanced

With Gladiator beast being the top deck this card has no chance. Like I said Gladiator beasts have many different attributes, and Tualatin will never see play because of how good Gladiator beasts are right now, because of the fact that all Gladiator beasts do is bring out Gyzarus to blow two cards up which maybe your monsters that will die by an effect and then you will have a dead card in your hand against a very solid deck that can win very fast in 1-3 turns. That is why it is not worth to run this card. Even if you get it off that means you also lost two cards in battle and you lost field presence and that is never a good thing.

You basically go negative two off losing both monsters than dropping Tualatin and anything you destroys just makes it even for what you ended up losing, but if you destroy three or more you end up with greater advantage than you started with and you may have a great strategy to defeat your opponent from never letting him summon or special summon. You may pick dark which is probably the best choice against Gladiator beast which stops Gyzarus and Prisma.  The card is a very good card when it is up against a deck that just uses one attribute like Light sworn and Dark armed Dragon, but these decks can blow up cards with their effects which ends up making Tualatin still dead in your hand.

Traditional

This is horrible here.

Suggestions

Do not use this in the current metagame, because it will never go off. Most likely there will never be a format where games and decks will run over monsters and just attack and win rather than using effects and traps to destroy monsters.
