Dark Valkyria
One step at a time.
1800 attack: Beatstick material, and can hold its
own for the most part. Its a respectable attack and
can get the job done.
1050 defense: Better than a Monarch, I'll give it
that. Still, it still isn't enough to take a hit.
Gemini: The killer of so many cards. While most
of the early Gemini monsters had horrible attack
powers (a lot of 1500s, and even Il Blud is pretty
weak), at least the Dark Valkyria can swing without
her effect. Being a Gemini is going to cost her, but
it won't kill her.
Effect: Becoming a 2100 attack monster with the
power to destroy any monster on the field is
extremely promising. Monster destruction is never
bad.
Dark/Fairy: An odd combination. While she doesn't
sit perfectly in either camp, she adds more to the
Dark side than the Fairy in my opinion. Still,
Fairies likely need the beatstick more, so she does
give options where they weren't available before.
Now then, this is one of the cards I was actually
looking forward to in this set. Seen as a "Gemini
Breaker" to some, Dark Valkyria is possibly one of
the best Geminis we've been given so far (Gigaplant
and Il Blud aside). While she can't reload her own
spell counter, there are cards that can do so (Pitch
Black Power Stone), giving her the potential to nuke
a few targets at once. Can't go wrong with that!
Still, a Gemini is a Gemini. Even the all
powerful, all overpriced Il Blud didn't really live
up to its potential. Having to sacrifice a summon to
activate an effect is painfu, and any effect with
that sort of price tag ought to be able to pay for
it. While hers could be seen as an equal trade (I
pay my summon to kill one of yours!), the fact is
that anything you'd really want to use her effect on
should have killed her the turn before. In addition,
the Gemini effect kills the surprise factor of her,
meaning she's more of a deterrant than a way of
dealing with the situation. Potential in Return
decks, but beyond that she's merely a beatstick.
Traditional: 1/5 (she'll never live long enough
to activate her effect, so she's just another 1800
monster)
Advanced: 3/5 (higher chance of her firing it
off, and it really can pay for itself if given the
opportunity)
