Substitoad
One step at a time.
100 attack: If this is in attack mode, it better
be because you're tributing it. At least its
searchable.
2000 defense: Very respectable, can hold off
anything that wasn't special summoned or tributed
for. Solid.
Effect: Summoning from the deck is always a plus,
but one has to look over the number of useful Frogs
in the game to give the effect a fair chance. Its a
short list, lemme tell ya.
Aqua/Water: A powerful combination, actually.
Water has several methods of reusing or recycling
cards, and Aqua... Wetlands. Need I say more?
Now then, this card is seeing some interest from
two different perspectives, so I'll try to give them
both a chance.
First, with Wetlands. Water/Aqua/Level 2 or lower
monsters get a 1200 point boost to their attack.
Thats... pretty darn respectable. Now granted, that
only puts this little guy at 1300. Still, consider
this: End your opponent's turn with Scapegoat. On
your turn, drop Substitoad. Dig out your three
Unifrogs and your Treeborn Frog. Laugh as your
opponent dies to Frogs because they attack directly
and can't be mowed down.
Scary, eh?
Second, OTK potential. A few people have
considered loading an Exodia deck or the like with
three of these guys and a buttload of Frogs. First
time one of these guys hits the field with a buddy,
you can strip every frog out of your deck at once.
Thats thirteen cards gone in a flash! Beats the heck
out of Toon Table of Contents set, now doesn't it?
Seriously, though. If you didn't draw a
Substitoad in the first hand, you'd likely get hosed
in bad draws for the rest of the game. Dangerous
plan, and I wouldn't recommend it. The Wetlands
design, however, looks pretty solid and highly
amusing. Substitoad may well have created a new
decktype all by itself.
Awesome.
Traditional: 2/5 (potential OTK material does
give it some pull)
Advanced: 3/5 (proud creator of a potential tier
2 decktype, basic design still needs help against
the big boys though)
