Friday

Closing the week, we look at Fog King, a Level 7 Spellcaster, appropriately of the Water attribute with a stunning 0 attack and 0 defense.  Although being Level 7, you can Normal Summon Fog King with only one tribute...

Or, with none at all.  That, in itself, is awesome!  Anyway, neither player can Tribute monsters while this card is face-up on the Field.

Odds are, this is going to hurt your opponent, however, it doesn't have to hurt you.

A Legendary Ocean Decks could get some real power outside of this.  Can your normal Deck be able to compete with this card?  I'm not sure.

Odds are, you're going to want to tribute too, and you can't bank on the fact you will get everything you want before your opponent, and then this card.

Ratings:

Traditional:  1/5

Advanced:    3/5  My jury is still out on this.  Some Decks could use

it, others won't.  Just wait for someone to break it open.

Friday:
Fog King

Too bad this couldn't be out while Monarchs were ruling the tournament scene, no?

You've either got a free Mask of Restrict you have to protect, or a 1 or 2 tribute monster that can hold its own on the field.  For those that are willing to have a 0/0 monster on the field, you've also got access to it through Mother Grizzly, and other search cards work with it because of its printed ATK of 0.  Do I think it's going to impact tournaments?  Not right now.  Might it do so in the future?  Possibly.

But for right now, this gets a 2/5 for not really being able to stand up to all that much, and not countering any top-tier decks.

Friday - Fog King

Today in the COTD section, the crew is reviewing Fog King, a Secret Rare in the Light of Destruction set. No, Fog King doesn't have anything to do with Cloudian monsters, which is good or bad depending on your point of view. As always, I'll begin with the Effect Explanation

Effect Explanation

Fog King's can be Tribute Summoned by tributing 2 monsters, or it can be Normal Summoned without any tributes, in which case its attack would be 0. Fog King's attack points equal the original attack points of the monsters that were tributed in order to Tribute Summon this monster. This card is much like Maju Garzett, except it comes with a couple more effects. While Fog King is face-up on the field, neither player is permitted to Tribute monsters, which includes Exiled Force's effect.

Stat Analysis

This monster's ATK is explained in its Card Text, and its DEF is always zero, except in special cases where another card effect is involved. This isn't too awesome, but Fog King is most likely always going to be in attack position. Fog King is a WATER-attribute monster, which means that WATER-based decks get a slight boost. It's a Spellcaster-type monster, so Spellcasters get another strong Tribute monster.

When Fog King is good and isn't good

In my opinion, Fog King isn't good in any situation, and it doesn't fit too well in any deck. Spellcasters already have enough high-level support, and they don't need anymore. WATER-based decks never have made it too far, and they don't get a decent boost as most of their support builds off of Aqua-type monsters, which Fog King isn't.

Ending off the week, we review fog king. This card rocks. DaD could take this along with mask of restrict and completely shut down the format. With his ablity to replace just about any floater, or none, this works like a gem. Of course, only in the advanced format because trad. is ruled by chaos.

1/5 trad.

5/5 adv.

LODT-EN098 Fog King

One of the more interesting cards from the new set, Fog King is essentially a Mask of Restrict with a body. It also has the bonus of potentially gaining some Attack if you do decide to tribute for it, but has the versatility to hit the field quickly if you are going first or do not feel like tributing for it. In the current format the only thing it's really going to stop is the occassional Enemy Controller, but in a slower format full of tribute monsters it could potentially see play in Side decks.

It's pointless to tribute monsters for this card. Unless you need to take down a big monster on the field. I see this card as a Mask Of Restrict. Where it negate tribute summons, but is a monster form. It's more of a lock down type of card. The problem is, no one really uses tributes monsters anymore. In the day of the monarchs, this would of been a nice card. It would of helped make a solid deck to combat the monarchs. It could of been thrown in a lot of burn lock down decks and other stall decks. If monarchs every come back to being splashed with decks or become good just themselves, then this card can see some play. The defense/attack are 0, but it doesn't make a difference. Decks who would use this card will defend it. Which is easy, because the whole deck they may run will stall.

Advanced- 2/5- I would give it a better rating if the format wasn't so fast and since tribute monsters aren't very popular right now. It still has a lot of potential.

Traditional- 1/5
