Stat(s):
Harvest Angel of Wisdom is a Level 4
Light/Fairy. Level 4 is nice, since it is so
easy to drop into play. Both Attribute and Type
are supported, but the support has met with
varying success. This card has a solid 1800 ATK,
which means we now have enough decent ATK scored
Level 4 Monsters to run a Fairy Beatdown (if you
for some reason feel the need). Still, another
attack option is nothing to scoff at. The DEF
is only 1000, which isn’t likely to survive
anything other than Sangan, Spirit
Reaper, and spent Flip Effect Monsters. It
isn’t crippling, however, as it is common
amongst beat sticks.
Effect(s):
When this card is destroyed in Battle and sent
to the Graveyard, you get to add a Counter Trap
card from your Graveyard to your hand. This is
a simple but useful effect provided you have
anything to add back to your hand. Cards that
“pay for themselves” tend to be good. Either
your opponent kills it through Battle and you
get a card back, or they have to use a removal
effect on this instead of something else. Not
so great if they already have Dark Armed
Dragon out, but nice if they are forced to
waste Sakuretsu Armor on this instead of
something more important to your deck.
Uses and
Combinations:
This strikes me as a staple for Counter-Fairy
decks. I mean, first obvious thing is it gives
a decent beatstick for the deck to fall back on:
the 1600 ATK (or less) of the actual
“Counter-Fairies” can fall short all too often.
1800 isn’t much more, but it’s amazing how often
it helps. The second, obvious thing is that you
can intentionally suicide it to get the exact
Counter Trap you need. If you are running
The Ancient Sanctuary in the Sky (and since
Mieltel, Sage of the Sky requires it to
get its destruction effect, I’d think one
would), you don’t even lose any LP from it.
Ratings
Traditional:
2/5 – I expect that Counter Fairy decks aren’t
strong enough to topple Chaos or FTK
decks, but at least they can utterly, utterly
ruin them.
Advanced:
4/5 – A rating reflecting it is a must for
Counter Fairy decks, and probably useful for
many different Fairy decks. If you run at least
three Counter Traps, it might even work outside
such decks.
Art:
5/5 – I just saw a scan of the real card for the
first time: the video game counterpart doesn’t
do it justice. It’s gorgeous, “feels” angelic
and yet isn’t the stereotype like Shining
Angel is.
Summary
Harvest Angel of Wisdom
is a must for Counter Fairy decks, where it is
becomes the decks low level beatstick and
recycles your Counter Traps when it finally dies
in battle. In a general Fairy deck, so long as
there are a few Counter-Traps, I’d still
recommend it and you might want to consider it
if you’re main decking three Solemn Judgment.
