This was used by Yami Bakura against his duel with
Marik on the anime, if I'm not mistaken...
We have an incredibly short week, due to the
Thanksgiving Holiday, but we open the week with an
excellent card, or at least, a card that I
personally have awaited in our game, the dreaded
Puppet Master.
Puppet Master only gets his effect when Tribute
Summoned, which is a bit of a downside, as you are
tributing for a Level 6 Fiend with 0 attack and
defense, and while Dark is great for an attribute,
that alone, really hurts.
However, Puppet Master has the delicious ability of
being able to Special Summon two Fiend type monsters
from your Graveyard, all though they cannot attack
that turn, and it does require a cost of 2000
Lifepoints.
Is Puppet Master a good card, or even a bad card,
ofr that matter? It depends on the Format you ask.
In this Format, it probably is best suited in your
Trade Binder, but it does have combos and
possibilities.

Well, this is a card that has had it's uses, but not
really lends itself to a competitive deck at the
moment. It's stats are horrible, but then, so is
Malicious. Basically if you tribute summon this guy,
you pay 2000 lp in order to Special Summon 2 Fiends
from your graveyard.
Well, teh good thing is that there is no restriction
on which Fiend you can get, making it really fun to
get a pair of something like End of Anubis or
Summoned Skull and beat face for a while. Of course
then you are let with a 0 ATK and 0 DEF monster that
really doesn't have many uses at all. You can
Synchro with it, making it somewhat useful. However,
after it's effect has run it's course, there is not
really much you can do with this card.
The game right now is favoring really fast and
versatile cards. This card is neither, but if
thegame ever slows down, this guy could see some
serious play for the massive damage that he can deal
with his buddies.

Todayʼs
card up for review is Puppet Master, personally one
of my favorites. Its about time we got this card in
America haha. But anyways, this guy could have all
the potential in the world, but there are some flaws
to it. The 2k life point payment is pretty big,
considering we are in a otk like format, it will
most likely hurt you more than help. The other
factor being is that there isnʼt many fiends out in
the Tcg that is hallway playable. You have Caius,
Dark Resonator, Newdoria, Sangan, Giant Germ, and
Snipe Hunter. Sure you could make a deck with the
above stuff, but it wouldnʼt perform too well in my
opinion. If Fiends get 2-3 more playable cards I
could see the deck type dominating. I still suggest
you try this guy out though. If you can get his
effect off then protect your resources, who knows,
you could win some games.

Happy Thanksgiving! In
a few days. This year, I'm having venison for
dinner! No, I didn't get one. One of Dads' friends
gave us a HUGE buck. YAY!
Puppet Master is almost good. The one bad part is
there's no feind lv 2 tuner monster. I might be
wrong, but I searched my mind and the 'net, so it's
pretty safe to say this don't work. Now, you have to
pay 2000 lp, tribute a monster, have an atk 0 in atk
position for a turn, all for for two revived
monsters. Personally I don't think it's worth it.
Great in a Yubel deck though.
2/5 all.

Puppet Master
This is a great card, in my opinion, and adds a
great swarm ability to Fiends (who have been lacking
as of late). However, there are two main drawbacks:
one, he's a level 6, and two, he's a 0 ATK/0 DEF
monster. But (and this is the good thing), you're
not going to be bringing this guy onto the field for
his stats; you're bringing him onto the field so you
can pull a couple of huge fiends from your
graveyard. I can definitely see this card
revitalizing the Fiend deck, especially Archfiends.
However, outside of a fiend deck, he's pretty
worthless, because he'll just take up a spot for no
reason. You don't want to run this in any deck but
fiends.
Traditional: I'm not sure about the state of fiends
in the format, but I'm sure he'll help out.

Puppet Master is very similar to Overdrive
Teleporter. Life point payment and number of monster
they special summon of their own type, but Puppet
Master special summons from the grave. Althought
they can't attack, these monster can be used for
Tributes. Bring back two Caius to the field for
beatdown or maybe a Giant Germ to use with Crush
Card Virus or Creature Swap. This card is better in
the late game and can provide advantage for Fiend
players. Puppet Master isn't as good as Overdrive
Teleporter, but its a cool card to play and has an
awesome name.

Stats:Puppet Master has
little going for it in terms of stats: it is
a Dark/Fiend, which is solid combination,
but it is a Level 6 Monster with 0 ATK and
DEF! Besides enabling Crush Card Virus,
this card obviously will only see play for
its effect, and I’ll warn you now that you
won’t be cheating the Tribute cost with
Mystic Tomato (though adding it to hand
with Sangan will still be useful).
Effect: When this Monster is Tribute
Summoned, you may pay 2000 Life Points to
Special Summon two Fiend Type Monsters from
your Graveyard. They can’t attack this
turn, though. This seems rather awkward:
the Monsters cost you a Monster in Tribute,
a wasted Normal Summon, force you to protect
or get rid of a 0 ATK hole in your Defenses
(unless you run a crazy combo so you can
Tribute Summon in face-up Defense Position)
and the summoned Monsters can’t attack that
turn. A few have decent effects that could
still be helpful, but no clear “instant
advantage recovery” cards.
Uses and
Combinations: There is only one place
for this card – a Virus deck! While
normally five card combos are a very bad,
bad thing, even when they win you the game
(how many Exodia decks do you
encounter that win tournaments?), there is a
nice exception to that rule: when most or
all of the pieces have another use. The
Tribute fodder can certainly be used
elsewhere. The Fiends Summoned can be used
however they normally would; ditto for the
Virus cards. Even Puppet Master
can just be a risky shortcut to bypass extra
Tributes for big Monsters. When it all
comes together, you can get the three big
Virus Traps all off at once: imagine
three turns with no Monsters and no Spells
or Traps. Unless you get really lucky, that
is Spells or Traps, but there are
plenty of ways to deal with Traps in play
and ones you see coming tend to be less
effective. Yes, it means you either have to
wait a turn or tack on even more cards for
the combo to make use of all this, but
assuming you have to wait that is two turns
to win the game with virtually nothing your
opponent can do about it!
Ratings
Traditional: 2/5 – Easier FTK and
lockdown decks. Still, you could play it
and a Yata-lock later you win.
Advanced: 3/5 – I think this card is
a definite boon to Virus based decks,
though how often such decks are played I
can’t tell you.
Art: 2/5 – Another evil clown; not
very inspired.
Summary
An interesting piece to aid some combo
decks, it should help Virus decks but
will it be enough to matter this meta?
Probably not.
