Dark Paladin

Wednesday

Montage Dragon, unlike yesterday's card, is a card that I do really like, and one that I think has a lot of potential.  Here we have a Level 8 Dragon of the Earth attribute with ? atk and 0 def (not so great).

Now, while Montage Dragon cannot be Normal Summoned or Set, and is a Level 8 monster, which usually requires two tributes, you aren't supposed to tribute for this card...ever.  Instead, you can Special Summon this card by sending 3 of your monsters from your Hand to the Graveyard.

This cards attack is equal to the combined level of the chosen monsters, x300 points.  Now, it's nice that you could potentially Special Summon a very powerful monster...three Level 3 monsters would be 2700 atk.

Granted, this monster is vulnerable to everything else that destroys monsters that 99% of the monsters in Yugioh are also vulnerable too, but we aren't going to bring that down against Montage Dragon, as this card isn't very difficult to summon.

This card is a harbinger of sadness in this set. He is the ONLY Ultra rare that is not good. Well lets go over his effect first. You can send 3 other monsters from your hand to the graveyard to Special Summon him and then he gets 300 ATK for each level. That is a four card investment for a card that likely won't gain very much ATK, due to the fact that at best those cards were level 4, meaning 3600 ATK. That is really Mediocre at best.

He can be used in a High Level deck, using Trade In and such, as then you actually want the big guys in the graveyard to be revived. He has some mild potential, but I will not like this card. I pulled an Ultimate of him, and while really cool looking, I would rather have gotten any other Ultra in the set. Maybe even any other holo.

I recently borrowed zelda collectors edition for gcn, AND IT ROCKS!! ZELDA IS SOOOO FUN!!!

Montage Dragon wouldn't be half bad in decks like...uh...not-to-competitive-decks-with-lots-of-high-level-monsters decks. It doesn't really fit into any competitive deck, but what most people don't realize [I think], is that it can turn into an OTK. With cards like trade-in, d-draw, a bunch of 8*s, and maybe some burn, it could get pretty powerful. Or not.

This card has the potential to actually be quite large in ATK if you were to send say 3 level 4 monsters from your hand. Competitively, I doubt that this card would see alot of play for a few obvious reasons. It nets a huge disadvantage upon summoning because of the fact that it is destroying 2 extra cards in hand in order to summon it. It is nomi as well, so once its gone, its staying in the graveyard for good. This would be an excellent addition to the non-meta, casual dragon deck, where one could send 3 high level dragon type monsters for a humongous beater.

Casual Advanced: 3.5/5 lots of fun possibilities
Competitive Advanced: 1/5 just doesnt make the cut in the world of DAD's and JD's

Pros:
Can be a huge attacker

Cons:
Huge investment and deck dedication for potentially little reward.

This card definitely has potential but not much. You need three other monsters in your hand and they have to be discarded. With that kind of investment it needs to win you the game. You need a total of level 27 for minimum lethal damage. That's obviously going to lack consistency though. The way I see it, the best way to use it is in an Evil Hero Dark Gaia based deck. Pitch Demise, Valkyrion, Lava Golem, etc., for Montage Dragon at then Dark Calling for Dark Gaia which will usually be enough to win assuming the attacks can't be stopped. That's a five card combo and a rule of thumb about combos is if it takes five or more cards, just play Exodia. I doubt it'll win any tournaments but in the case that you do win a match it'll make your opponent say "Oh my god. How did I lose to that? I think I hate you.". Don't forget that it's dragon so in the case that you're playing Five-Headed Dragon this can either be food for the Future Fusion/Dragon's Mirror or potentially help finish the game.

Advanced - 1.5/5 - Combos aren't great right now and inconsistent ones are far worse
Traditional - 1/5 - Has combo potential but not much

Today’s card up for review is Montage Dragon, an interesting card for one of my favorite deck types! For those who cannot guess, I am talking about The Calculator deck. For example, you could pitch 3 Destiny Hero Plasmas, making this guys attack power 7200! Combine that with Cyber Dragon and even The Calculator, and you have a field of big beaters. Sadly, this cannot hack it in Competitive, but its yet another fun deck type you can use with your friends.

Today's card of the day is Montage Dragon, another triple headed monster like Cyber End Dragon. This card can be special summoned only by sending 3 monsters from your hand to the graveyard. Sending three monsters to the graveyard is a hard task to do to summon this dragon. You are losing 3 cards to summon a monster that would have high attack.

If you summon him, you must have some way to protect it with the remaining cards you have. The lowest attack he could be at is 900 and the highest would be 10800 ATK. Even for a total of 5 stars he would be at 1500 ATK and would be able to be destroyed by Bottomless Trap Hole. Either way if it is weak or strong it is very likely it would be spending a very short time on the field.

The only was this could be some what good is if you can send 3 dark monsters to the grave (most likely Malicious, Dark Lord Zerato, or any high level dark monster) and then special summon Dark Armed Dragon.  Use those dark monsters and destroy any opposition and attack directly with both (18 Stars for Montage) for the win, but other than that Montage Dragon could face a Honest or even a Brain Control and it would be bad either way for using up that many resources for this card.

Montage Dragon.

This card is horrible. The only real use it has would be an OTK, and obviously it would be an inconsistent OTK seeing as I would need to discard 27 stars worth of Monsters, have a clear shot at my opponent's life points, and be able to do this consistently.

Overall I do not feel this card is worth wasting my time with.
