Dark Paladin

Thursday

It's going to be short and sweet today folks.  We're looking at Mind Master, a Light attributed Level 1 monster with 100 atk and 200 def who is a Psychic/Tuner monster.

By Paying 800 Lifepoints and tributing one Psychic-type monster other than "Mind Master" you can Special Summon one Level 4 or lower Psychic monster from your Deck in face-up attack position.  It honestly isn't a terrible card for Tuner Decks, but I don't see it as being the most useful either.

It technically is a 1-for-1 as you are trading one monster for another, (although you pay the 800 Lifepoints) but if it helps you, then play it.

Ratings:

No ratings.  It only belongs in its own Deck.  If you really need something, I thinking about a 2.25/5, even where it belongs.  Happy?

IMO, this is a mediocre Psychic. You do have to pay 800 AND sacrifice a creature in order for you to get any level four Psychic from your deck. This is good, as you can tribute Krebons or Psychic Commander in order to bring out a Psychic Snail or something else. This card just adds a rather expensive toolbox element to a deck that already has Emergency Teleport.

It can be very useful, as you won't always have Emergency Teleport handy. You can also swap a non-Tuner for a Tuner in order to Synchro Summon Magical Android. However, that is basically the limit of his capabilities at the moment. Other Psychic Types are just better for the Psychic deck and the Synchro deck.

Today’s card up for review is Mind Master. Wow did this deck/deck type ever have a lot of hype before they hacked the effect of this card. For those who didn’t see the spoiler prior, here is the change. Prior, you were able to sac off mind master itself to summon a psychic from your deck. So you can pretty much make a turbo with Overload, drawing a bunch of cards, and in turn have big synchros on the field. But now, the card is pretty bleh. They pretty much killed the deck type from being really competitive for the most part in my opinion. Sure the deck is still fun, but their potential got crushed, so sad!

Superficially, this card doesnt come off as all that useful. Low attack, mediocre effect, and LIGHT attribute dont make it all that great at first glance. There is some playability in this card that may not easily be noticed. First off, since this card is a Psychic type monster, it can be Emergency Teleported. It also is a level one monster, so it may be just the tuner number needed to get out a Synchro you need. Its effect synergizes with Dark Armed Dragon. If Mind Master and say Krebons was on the field, you could send Krebons to the graveyard to search another one, and repeat this process if needed to fulfill Dark Armed Dragon's requirement of 3 dark monsters in the graveyard.

Casual Advanced: 4/5
Competitive Advanced: 3/5 Limited combo-ability and synergy make this card somewhat playable

Pros:
Tutors out Psychic-type monsters
Is a Tuner

Cons:
Extremely weak
Requires tributing other Psychics and life point cost to get the tutoring effect

I don't see much use for it outside of a dedicated Psychic deck. Being able to search the deck for any card is definitely going to have benefits. Unfortunately at this point it just doesn't seem all that good. If it could tribute itself for the effect it would be ridiculously better since it would be able to get Krebons or Psychic Commander and be another Emergency Teleport target. At least for the time being, Krebons and Psychic Commander are much better as Psychics and as Tuners.

When this card is Summoned, select 1 card your opponent controls. Toss a coin twice, and if the result is 2 heads destroy the selected card.

Today we have the mini me of Blowback Dragon. It has the coin flip and the pick any card on the field and destroy it effect, but the downside is that it has to be when it is summoned and only once that turn. You also have to get both coin tosses right or it was just a summon for a 1700 ATK monster. Twin-Barrel Dragon is weak against Pulling th Rug. It would be great if your opponent uses Bottomless Trap Hole and you targer their monster and actually destroy it. That is the best possible situation for Twin-Barrel Dragon.

Its a machine, so limiter removal would bring it up to 3400 in a pinch. It is a dark monster, so playing Allure of Darkness can help you, but there are better targets. This monster is just a casual play and wouldn't see any tournament play soon, unless if they ban a lot of cards.
