We took Monday off, more or less in observance of
Easter, but we're back today looking at Assault
Beast, an interesting enough monster.
Assault Beast has a ridiculously simple effect...by
discarding him to the Graveyard, you can add an
"Assault Mode-Activate" card from your Deck to your
Hand. That, in itself, is good, but not necessarily
enough to warrant playing the card.
But wait...they made Assault Beast actually a
respectable card. Level
4 and an Earth-type Beast-Warrior, no less with an
impressive 1900 attack and 1200 defense. He's a
decent enough beatstick, and even could fit in with
Gladiator Beasts.
If you're actually playing some Assault Mode
Synchros, then go ahead and try him if you have some
room, and as I said about Gladiator Beasts, I'd
definitely try out at least one, even though not
exactly a "Gladiator Beast".

Assault Beast ...
Ok, this guy's name should be - "Please Yu-Gi-Oh
Players - Play with our New Assault Mode Monsters -
PLEASE?!?!" ... but probably since that was too long
to fit on one card, they shortened it to "Assault
Beast" ...
Yeah ... 1900 ATK on a 4-star body ... we ALREADY
know that's good, but seriously - who cares at this
point? Seems more like a lame half hearted attempt
to validate this deck type ... Are we supposed to
say - "Oh cool! He's 1900 ATK AND he helps Assault
Modes??! Wow! I'm gonna play him!!" ? Well 1900 ATK
IS good, but considering that u have to discard him
just to get his effect .... with his effect being
that u can fetch a trap from your deck ... which u
then have to set and wait till next turn to activate
... ... all of which while assuming u ALREADY have
the correct Synchro on the field .... uhg ... It's
enough to give u a headache just BUILDING the deck
... and at what point has ANY of the "impressive"
stats of his been any benefit? ... Sure - u could
always just SUMMON him to put his strength to use,
but then what makes him better than any OTHER 1900
muscle for any given deck type?
I dont think the Assault Mode Deck itself is
necessarily THAT bad ... but the Assault Beast just
seems like a poor investment in time and resources
for it ... and the Assault Mode Deck is so labored
enough already that it doesn't have a moment to
waste with this thing.

Well hope everyone had
a great Easter weekend, and so we'll start this
weeks Card of the Day off with Assault Beast.
Another "Monster Searcher", and by "Monster
Searcher" I mean a card that discards itself to add
a specific card from the deck to the hand. In
Assault Beasts case, you discard it to add an
"Assault Mode Activate" from your deck to your hand.
This alone makes it an absolute must in any /Assault
Mode deck, as it speeds up the chances of you
summoning an /Assault Mode monster.
Being a Beast-Warrior, it will be really amazing if
we ever manage to get a decent Beast or
Beast-Warrior type /Assault Mode monster. I'd build
it and base it around Enraged Battle Ox and other
various cards. Being a solid 1900 attack monster it
lacks in defense but then again it can get over a
1800 Gladiator Beast Laquari or Elemental Hero
Stratos, many high attacker level fours.
There really isn't much to say about this card other
than its a decent beat stick for a Beastdown deck
and is a must for any /Assault Mode deck.

I see this card being very good in a sd/am deck and
a nice 1900 which runs over GB's unless they run
