B.E.S. Big Core MK-2...the BES monsters were a very
interesting set that never really caught on, because
they relied on counters, and however good their
effect(s) may have been, the counters really weighed
them down.
However, this one doesn't exactly rely on counters,
and isn't a terrible card. This monster is Level 6
with 2400 attack, which isn't a problem, with a very
low 1100 defense, and a Machine of the Fire
attribute? Yes, Fire...why, who knows?
Now, if you control no monsters, you can Normal
Summon this card without tributing. Nice, a 2400
attack monster, so that's good in the opening game,
and in late game situations, obviously where you
control no monsters.
Now, no counters to weigh you down there, no
problems. The counters come in if you Special Summon
it. It gets 3, and as should sound familiar, if it
battles without a counter, destroy it at the end of
the Damage Step.
Furthermore, this card can't be destroyed by Battle,
but I'm not sure if that only comes when it's
Special Summoned, since it's written after that on
the card. That's the assumption I'm going with
anyway.
You can make a semi-respectable BES Deck, as long as
you can keep the proper counters on the Field to
make sure that they aren't so easily destroyed. If
you're doing that, more power to you.
Ratings:
Traditional: 2/5 I don't see a real use for it.
Advanced: 3/5 Maybe a bit generous, but it is one of
the better BES
monsters.
Art: 5/5 Almost looks like another Transformer.

B.E.S. Big Core MK-2 …
I have to admit – the BES Machines are all pretty
cool looking … and this new one is no exception!
2400 ATK for 1-tribute … fairly standard … and
Fire/Machine type? Not the most common, but still
fun/interesting/cool. Based on its stats – this card
is no slouch, but then its effect is what starts to
lose me a bit … ok – almost all of these guys have
that annoying “3-counters and you’re out” thing to
them … which I was never a fan of … but Big Core
MK-2 doesn’t get his counters unless he’s special
summoned. Meaning that if u DO tribute for it, the
ship will be floating dead in space without a way to
attack. It’s 1st effect of being able to be normal
summoned (no tribute) if u control no monsters is
nice … especially since it’s not contingent on your
opponent having anything on the field already, so u
can bring him o ut immediately on your opening turn
if u like … But again, since it’s a “normal summon”
u would need to find a way to put counters on him
quick (check the new Spellcaster Starter deck, in
stores Now!), or he won’t last very long.
While he’s got counters, he’s indestructible in
battle. That’s pretty cool. But overall … It’s not
bad. It’s not great. If I were playing a BES deck, I
would give him a try … there may be some cool things
u can do with him …

We end this weeks Card
of the Day with B.E.S. Big Core MK-2, another "Video
Game" themed card. Unlike the others, this one can
be normal summoned with no tribute if you control no
monsters, which means you can summon a free level 6
2400 attacking monster. Like all the other B.E.S.
monsters it gets 3 counters and when it battles a
counter gets removed.
Now in most decks, this card is bad as there are
better choices. Really I can only see this card
going in some machine deck with the Teleport engine,
but only back when Teleport was at 3. There really
isn't much to discuss on this card as its the same
as the other B.E.S. monsters, just it can be
summoned without a tribute if you have no monsters,
not a big difference.

This card will see no play this format

still these are not that great at least not yet.
