Once per turn,
you can select 1 of your opponent's monsters that is
removed from play. Until the End Phase, this card's
name is treated as the selected monster's name, and
this card has the same Attribute, Level, ATK, and
DEF as the selected monster. If this card is removed
from the field while this effect is applied, remove
it from play.

Closing the week, we look at Scanner, a Level 1
Machine type Light attribute monster with ? attack
and ? defense, which almost always at least makes
for a fun card, but usually something not very
playable.
Sadly, this is one card that seems to fit, at least
in my mind, a great idea gone terribly wrong...
Scanner absolutely sucks. Let's take a minute to
talk about what Scanner COULD have been. You can
choose an opponent's monster and it doesn't have to
be removed from Field. For only being able to be
something removed, Dimension (something or other)
should be in the name, one would think. Anyway, or,
limit it to a monster from your opponent's
Graveyard, or even just their side of the Field, as
that's going to be better most of the time than the
removed from play pile.
Second, the effect only lasts until the End Phase.
Granted, this can be once per turn, but you could
end up having nothing that your opponent has
removed, and having to set a ? defense monster.
Gaining an attribute is usually meaningless, but it
COULD help every once in a while.
As for attack and defense, if you're choosing
something powerful, obviously this is
great...otherwise, just another waste. Back on the
topic of only being an opponent's removed monster,
why not something you removed, or something you have
on the Field, or something in your Graveyard?
Granted, it seems like someone, somewhere really
pissed their pants at giving us a card with a great
ability and created a horrible version of something
that could have at least been fun to use.
If you needed further reason to not use this card,
if this card is removed from the Field while its
effect is active, Scanner is removed from play.
There is just NO reason, no Deck, no warrant to play
Scanner...ever...
EVER...

equates to 1/5 across the board...)

Scanner ...
hmmm ... interesting week ... First off, let me say
- I dont HATE this card ... for 1 reason or another,
of all the Crimson Crisis packs i've bought, I never
actually pulled this card!! Weird, huh? ... and, uhm
... the picture is pretty cool ...
Ok, so anyway - the monster itself - a 1 star Light
Machine ... none of which make this thing suck ...
and ALL of which (aside from Monster type) can be
changed should your opponent have a nice varying set
of monsters removed from play to mimic. But right
then and here is where this card starts to lose
points. Anything that is completely dependent on
what your opponent is playing in order to be
functional, is seldom a good idea. You'd only try
and use it in a Remove From Play deck (or a "Delete
Deck" as we call it around my way), or as a side to
combat an RFP deck ... and even then Scanner may
only be useful late in the game, presumably when
something big has already been unleashed, u survived
it, and it is now in your opponent's out of play
pile ... If these conditions ever got met - you'll
be happy u drew this card ... but till then? ...
well ... If Scanner were also a Tuner, it'd be
better, but ... if, if, if ....

This card can be brought out by Machine
Duplication. This card has very interesting effect I
am not gonna say it's bad until proven otherwise.

This guy could have been oh so much better. We have
a level 1 LIGHT Machine with ? ATK and DEF. The
stats are almost the worst they could be. If they
were 0 that would be so much better. As it is, you
cannot search him out in any way except for Machine
Duplication. His ATK and DEF are not 0 while in the
deck so recruiters and searchers cannot search him
out.
Well, at least the effect gets better. You can
select one of your opponent's removed from play
monsters and copy the stats and name of that card.
No effect text, but that can actually be pretty
good. Except that it returns to normal at the end
phase.
If it copied the effect or at least lasted until
your next turn, you could actually use this guy. As
it is, you really cannot. The worst part is that you
cannot really control his effect. Meaning that
removing your opponent's cards is really hard to do
and fairly costly card wise. They were on to
something when they printed him, but this is another
example of a card that they just blasted into
oblivion as far as the design was concerned...

Scanner, a card I
wanted to try out in the Tele-DAD era, but with
Malicious at 2 well yeah.. Once per turn you can
select a monster that is removed from play and it
copies the name, level, attribute, attack and
defense as the monster you selected. If we had
Scanner when Tele-DAD had just taken off, any
Teleport deck would have more than likely ran 3
Scanners, just because you would be able to copy any
monster your opponent removed from play, with 90% of
the time was Destiny Hero - Malicious.
Though the card would be good back when Tele-DAD was
running around unstoppable, this card really can't
do much this format with Gladiator Beasts and
Blackwings being the big decks.
