Ancient Sacred Wyvern closes the week, and I wish we
switched this with Wednesday as this is not good at
all, especially compared to Ancient Fairy
Dragon...we have a Light attributed Level 7 Synchro
monster again, except this is a Fairy, not a Dragon.
Again we are stuck with the paltry 2100 attack on a
Level 7 Synchro monster, but this time instead of
the impressive 3000 defense, we have the equal
despisable (in relation to the attack) 2000 defense.
Sure, you have the "bonus" of gaining attack if you
have more Lifepoints than your opponent, but that's
not worth it.
(Don't let the anime fool you into thinking this
card is so great...)
You have the unfortunate side effect of that 2100
attack dropping if you have fewer Lifepoints than
your oppoonet. The 1000 Lifepoint cost to Special
Summon isn't worth it, and is only good the turn
it's destroyed...by Battle.

General Zorpa
Ancient Sacred Wyvern
This is the card that will replace Dark Strike
Fighter in many extra decks once it has been banned.
It is a level 7 Synchro LIGHT Dragon with 2100 ATK
and 2000 DEF as a base. You can only Synchro Summon
it with a LIGHT Tuner though, so that seriously
limits your options. There are really only a few of
which Herald of Orange Light, Hyper Synchron and
Frequency Magician are a few.
However, the effect seriously rewards those who can
get it to the field. It gains ATK equal to the
difference in lifepoints between the players if your
lifepoints are higher and loses them if your
lifepoints are lower. This means that you can use
tricks like Aegis of Gaia to boost him over pretty
much any card in the game and just in general make
it a huge beater.
To compensate for the decreasing effect, if it were
to be destroyed in battle you can pay 1000 to
Special Summon it, which is crazy good as previously
the only card that could do that is Colossal
Fighter. You do lose a lot of Wyverns ATK points
when you do, but if worse comes to worse, you can
tribute it and do other things with it.
I do not think that this card is for every deck. If
you can fit a LIGHT Tuner into your deck, you can
probably play this card easily and abuse it. Many
people thought Arcanite Magician to be too
restrictive, and look at where that card is now.
Basically, I love this card and it will easily be
one of the chase cards from teh set due to the
banlist that is supposedly coming out in September.

Ancient Sacred Wyvern
...
Well instantly this makes me think of Ancient Fairy
Dragon ... both are synchros ... both have a similar
look ... similar base attack ... first name is
"Ancient" ... so instantly - the comparisons begin.
Which is better? I'd say the answer is .... neither.
The major thing ASW has going for it is that it
rewards u for already being aheady in the game by
giving u a potentially colossal attacker. If u are
ahead by 3000, u attack directly with this? - u win.
The draw back is that it doesnt do anything else,
really. Big attack is nice, but if u arent finishing
the game in 1 turn - then something else with some
more tricks is more welcome.
The fact that it can special summon itself at the
cost of 1000 LP is nice ... but thats only if it
dies by battle ... meaning, whateer killed it last
time can always do so again, especially now that u
lost 1000 LP by bringing it back making ASW 1000 ATK
points weaker than it was to begin with. But u could
always use him as a tribute if need be.
Not a bad card, but not like a great one either. If
u can find the room in your extra deck, then go for
it .... but don't like KILL yourself to find room.

Its Friday people, and
we're ending the week with Neo-Parshaths friend,
Ancient Sacred Wyvern. Wyvern is a Synchro Monster
that requires a LIGHT Tuner and 1 or more
non-Tuners, and while its on the field and your life
points are higher, it gains attack equal to the
difference, however if your life points are lower it
loses attack equal to the difference. Now this part
of Wyverns effect is very similar to Neo-Parshath,
the Sky Paladin, however Neo-Parshath doesn't lose
any attack. That is one difference, the other is
when Wyvern is destroyed in battle, you can pay 1000
life points to revive it. Now, being a Light monster
like Neo-Parshath, the instant life point gain with
an added Honest or so, can do some seriously heavy
damage. So long as you can keep your life points
high, this card is actually quite a decent Synchro
Monster, however not many decks run LIGHT Tuners.
But there is something good here. Since its a level
7 Synchro Monster, Lightsworn decks can now use a
couple new cards. One of which would be Chaos-End
Master. A level 3 Tuner LIGHT monster. Since
Lightsworns have easy access to cards like Lumina,
Wulf, Lyla, Garoth and so on, it'd be rather easy to
pull out multiple level 6 and level 7 Synchro
Monsters. And Ancient Sacred Wyvern falls under the
level 7 Synchro category along with Black Rose
Dragon and Arcanite Magician. Personally I think
that Lightsworns are now better than before with
Ancient Sacred Wyvern, seeing as how easy it is for
them to drop Judgment Dragon, wipe the field, and
attack with both for game. 3000 off of 8000 would
bring them to 5000. 2100 with a 3000 bonus is 5100,
I think that Lightsworns may have found a new OTK
engine, assuming that Lightsworns dont have Judgment
Dragon put at 1 and Honest at 2.

Ancient Sacred
Wyvern....what would initially appear to be a good
card, actually has summoning restrictions...you
cannot synchro summon this unless you are using a
light-tuner monster. That right there basically
kills off any playability the card has. Finding a
good light tuner monster to use is one thing, but
finding one that's higher than a level 1 or 2 proves
to be the challange, unless you're willing to tune 3
monsters for one.
Barring the summoning restrictions though, this
card's effect has an explosive potential. It's more
suited towards aggressive players, so for those who
play conservative, this likely isn't a card you'd
want to use. By gaining attack equal to the
differential in LP (if you're leading) and losing
attack if the situation is reverse, you can easily
set up an OTK if you manage have 2x the amount of LP
your opponent does.
Its secondary resurrection effect is also
interesting, having the ability to keep summoning
itself for 1000 LP COULD seem nice, but keep in mind
that every time you use this effect, it's also
losing 1000 attack points. Then again, attack
points might not be a factor here if your intention
is to use it as tribute fodder.
