Rai-Jin, a fairly interesting Super Rare who is
Level 4 and aLight monster of the Thunder attribute
with ? attack and 1000 defense.
Now, while on the Field, all Light monster you
control gain 100 attack for each Light monster in
your Graveyard. During your End Phase, you must
destroy one Light monster you control. There can
only be one face-up Rain-Jin on the Field.
Really this card only belong in a dedicated Light
Deck, probably even only for Ligthsworn monsters. I
suppose this could make your monsters fairly
powerful, especially later in the game. Lightsworns
do mill after all, but I mean, to have a significant
increase, you would need say ten monsters, and that
would only be a 1000 attack increase.
BUT, then you have this guy on the Field too, and he
would only have 1000 attack, and that could prove
difficult to keep Rai-Jin on the Field for very
long. It's a nice idea, but I just don't see this
guy being very competitive.

Rai Jin
So we go from one of the best new cards from CSOC to
one of the worst. Rai Jin is a level 4 LIGHT Thunder
monster with ? ATK and 1000 DEF. Right there we
don't have the material for a really great monster.
It's effect is mediocre at best, giving every LIGHT
monster on the field 100 ATK for every LIGHT monster
in the graveyard. Not too bad, as both Batterymen
and Lightsworn are LIGHT, so you can really get some
solid pumping with his effect. The second effect
just kills the card. You have to sacrifice an LIGHT
monster at the end of your every turn. WEAK!
That means that if Rai Jin is the only one on the
field, he kills himself. A monster that kills itself
is rarely good, especially if it requires other
monsters on the field really to be good. I can see
it being a one of in a Battery deck to give the deck
a little bit of extra boost to win, or in a
Lightsworn deck, but Honest is just better, and he
won't be dethroned anytime soon.

Super Rare
Rai-Jin isn't a great monster for helping any deck,
except for Lightsworn, but even for that deck, there
are better choices. All light monster get 100 ATK
boost for each light in the grave, but the earlier
in the game that you see it, the less help Rai-Jin
will be. At the end phase, you have to destroy 1
Light monster you control. With a Lightsworn deck, I
wouldn't want to lose any card on the field for just
some more ATK power. If it didn't have the "There
can only be 1 on the field" requirement then it
would be somewhat better.

Rai-Jin
This card is definitely an interesting card. I like
the idea of a per-monster ATK boost, and it's
ability to chuck monsters into the Graveyard to
powerup his own effect is pretty cool too. However,
with a "?" for an ATK power, he's going to stay at a
fairly low ATK (since he only gets +100 for each
Light monster in the Graveyard) for most of the
game. However, his +100 ATK boost to all Light
monsters you control, for each Light monster in your
Graveyard, is a pretty neat effect, and can really
make Light-based decks fun and exciting to play.

Super Rare
“No sir! I don’t like it!” – is what I say to
Rai-jin … they very disappointing Super Rare that I
pulled like 3 or 4 of during the pre-release that
made me want to throw up, more and more.
But ok – lets try and take an objective look at this
guy. He’s a light monster. That’s a fairly good
thing these days. He’s 4 stars meaning he can be
normal summoned without any difficulty. And … yeah.
That’s about the end of it. He’s Thunder – a very
unsupported Monster type, so that’s not doing much
for him. And then his effect? … uhg.
“Attack boosting” effects are relatively subpar
unless they are 1) potentially game shifting, 2)
reliable, and 3) hard to negate. (yes, they need to
be ALL 3 of these in order to be something to talk
about) For example – Honest’s effect will break your
opponents monster almost every single time. The
Queen Archfiend we looked at last week gave a solid
1000 ATK every turn, and did it from the safety of
the graveyard. Rai-jin, on the other hand, would
require at least 10 light monsters in your graveyard
just to make HIMSELF 1000 ATK. 20 monsters in order
to make him a beast of a 4 star. How long do u think
it will take for that to happen?
… And if u are thinking that u could use him in a
Lightsworn Deck, I implore u to reconsider.
Lightsworns play well with SOME light monsters, but
play BEST with other Lightsworns and monsters that
can activate from the Graveyard. Investing space in
your deck to include this guy, in the hopes that u
can get him to the field at the same time that u
have another good Lightsworn or 2 on the field, PLUS
a bunch of other Lights in the grave would be a big
mistake.
Oh, and throw in the doozey that u also have to
destroy one of your own Light monsters you control
each turn? Wow. Total waste of a Super Rare.
