Well he LOOKS pretty bad-ass ... that's for sure ...
but is he any good?
For starters he's 7 stars ... 7 stars with only 2200
ATK points should be all u need to see in order to
cast this aside as junk. He's earth and a warrior,
which are both good things, but if u are going to
synchro summon a level 7 monster like him, u better
have a damn good reason other than - "But i'm trying
to make an ALL X-Saber deck!" ... And truth be told
- his ability to place a card from your hand back on
top of your deck is pretty good. We've all seen how
devastating it is when Phoenix Wing or Raiza put
something back and kills your next draw. So
considering what u are holding at the time, it's
very possible that Urbellum can create a little lock
once he gets to the field.
... still ... its way too conditional of a lock.
First off your opponent has to have at least 4 cards
in their hand to begin with. And then none of those
can be spells or traps or summonable monsters, or
else your opponent can just set a card or 2 after
they redraw it in order to reduce their hand size,
so Urbellum wouldn't get his effect. And the chances
of those ever happening? Well let's just say u would
be stupid to build a deck anticipating this.

Welcome to the
"Starter Deck 2009" week, and we'll be starting this
week with one of the new "Saber" monsters, X-Saber
Urbellum. Urbellum is a level 7 Synchro monster that
has a similar effect to Trap Dustshoot when it
inflicts battle damage to the opponent. 2200 attack
isn't much right now seeing as how people would
rather summon Dark Strike Fighter or Black Rose
Dragon, however for budget players, Urbellum is a
good choice for your extra deck, but if you can,
Black Rose Dragon is also considered a budget
monster being a tin promo and all, and use more of
them than Urbellum.

X-Saber Urbellum…. A
level 7-synchro monster. Given the meta right now,
it will likely take a backseat to Dark Strike
Fighter and Blackrose Dragon due to the card
restriction in the extra deck. Its effect is not bad
at all, as if you inflict battle damage to your
opponent, they basically skip their draw-phase,
since they would be drawing the same card you just
returned from their hand. The only catch is that the
effect only works when there are 4 or more cards in
hand.
Even though it has a decent effect, its his attack
points (or lack of) that holds this card back from
being used. With a measly 2200-attack, it can easily
be run over by other monsters. While it won’t be
destroyed by non-tribute, or non-special summon
monsters, almost anything special summoned through
synchro will be able to run this over.
With Dark Strike Fighter cementing at least 2 spots
in the extra deck, and Blackrose taking 1, there is
no point to use this card right now. Perhaps after
the next ban list which should see DSF going down to
1, if not 0.
However there are far too many players who are
undervaluing this card. I think it should be a one
of in every extra deck that doesn't use Gale for
Armor Master.
The reason is, with games being the way they are
now, you want to summon Synchros to generate
advantage. The days of putting out cards like
Colossal Fighter or Stardust Dragon unboosted are
gone.
So really with level 7's your options are Arcanite,
Black Rose, Armor Master (if you play BW tuners),
DSF, or Urbellum. It doesn't take a rocket scientist
to note that leaving cards like DSF alone on the
field to swing for 2600 (when you can pick up a card
with Urbellum) is not a good idea.
There are lots of situations where Urbellum should
be your level 7. For example let's say you want to
swing over a Shura or Stratos or Laquari or
something and you can use Rescue Cat.
You can either do Urbellum + Airbellum or something
like DSF + Airbellum and launch for 600 at the end
phase. I would much rather pick up the card.
I would strongly suggest putting one in your Cat
extra deck unless you're playing multiple BW
synchros and have no room (Armor Master is
always better).
At Nationals I saw at least five matches where a bad
Cat player swung with and left out a DSF instead of
an Arcanite with counters. Use Urbellum and you're
getting a +1 in that scenario
too.

Today’s card up for
review is X-Saber Urbellum. This card is pretty
decent, but such a shame the whole reason to buy the
starter deck would be because of this guy and
Airbellum. Anyways, his stats are alright, and it is
very easy to summon a Level 7 Synchro right now. The
only drawback is that your opponent needs 4 or more
cards in their hand. Then again, if it didn’t say
that, he would be busted beyond belief. Right now in
this format though, he isn’t worth a slot in your
extra deck. The effect is solid, but there are more
important Synchro’s needed in the extra deck over
this guy. But you can certainly try him out, because
his effect can surely go off in the early game and
help you win the duel
The X-Saber monsters are pretty damn awesome
looking, like they are all ready to kick some ass.
The question being, do they kick ass? X-Saber
Urbellum is a Level 7 Earth-Warrior type Synchro
monster, which isn't bad, although Level 7 is harder
to pull of than Level 8.
Urbellum has 2200 attack, which is downright
miserable on a Level 7 monster, even if it's a
Synchro, and the 1300 defense won't win you any
contests either. Now, when he inflicts Battle
Damage, your opponent randomly places a card from
their Hand on the top of their Deck.
First, the fact that the effect only works if your
opponent has four or more cards in their hand sucks.
Meaning this guy will probably only be effective
early game when the Hand is likely to be bigger.
Futhermore, why does it return to the top of the
Deck? Why not the bottom or the Graveyard? It could
be fun for a lock for a while forcing your opponent
to re-Draw the same card but with only 2200 attack,
don't expect him to stay on the Field long.

X-Saber Urbellum
Today we begin Starter Deck week, with all of these
cards available in the new 5Ds 2 Starter Deck.
Today's card is X-Saber Urbellum. He is a level 7
Synchro with 2200 ATK and 1300 DEF. All in all these
are pretty weak stats as his EARTH attribute and
Warrior type do little here.
His effect is mediocre at best as well. When he
deals damage, if your opponent had 4 or mor ecards
in their hand, you can put one of them on the top of
the deck.
This effect is kind of like Don Zaloog and Trap
Dustshoot combined with a little bit of Phoenix Wing
Wind Blast thrown in for good measure. You remove an
option and then force them to stagnate their draw
for a turn. As neither Don Zaloog nor Phoenix Wing
Wind Blast are being played in the top 5 decks right
now, you can expect this guy to see little play as
well.
There are far better level 7 Synchros, like Black
Rose Dragon, Arcanite Magician and Dark Strike
Fighter that should fill up all your slots for level
7. If you are just starting out, or don't have
Arcanite or DSF, then this guy should work fairly
well for you. He can work well in Cat Synchro to
strip multiple cards from their hand when combined
with Airbellum and force them to draw it again.
I am adding a new rating from me this week. It will
not be tallied and not done by other reviewers
unless they want to. This rating is for Casual,
which will include a beginner category. Basically
how the cards stack up as if you did not have access
to all of the best cards in the game is what this
rating is.
