Now, this is what would happen if Wolverine and
Sabertooth were to ever merge into one being.
X-Saber Airbellum, a Level 3 Earth and Beast-type
monser with 1600 attack, which is pretty good for
his Level, and a paltry 200 defense.
His effect is simple, when he directly attacks your
opponent, they discard one card from their Hand at
random. The effect is almost good, as the discard is
nice, but the fact it has to be a direct attack is
not. He does have the pleasant benefit of being a
Tuner, but if you want something for Hand
destruction alone, Don Zaloog is better than this
for sure...

X-Saber Airbellum
This is the Tuner that started it all. He is a level
3 Beast Tuner with 1600 ATK and 200 DEF. This is
especially relevant to both Gladiator and Synchro
Cat players as Rescue Cat can get this guy to the
field incredibly easily. This leads to broken plays
with Summoner Monk, and in combination with other
cards make this ferocious feline the second best
Tuner in the history of the game, beating out even
Krebons and Plaguspreader Zombie for top honors
(number 1 is Blackwing-Gale the Whirlwind).
The effect is what makes him so superior to any
other Tuner we currently have. He has higher ATK
than most Tuners which allows him to be so deadly
with his effect. If he attacks an opponent directly,
then you discard one card from your opponent's hand.
This is exactly like Spirit Reaper's reaping
ability. Note that it says attack directly and not
just by inflicting damage. In that way this card is
different than Don Zaloog.
Basically, you use Rescue Cat to bring this guy out
to Synchro Summon with another level 3 Beast for Giy
Guardian or a level 2 for Magical Android. You can
do some more broken things when Summoner monk
brought Rescue Cat to the field, Synchroing for
Arcanite Magician, Dark Strike Fighter or Black Rose
Dragon to get some massive advantage. Often, I just
use spells to clear the field attack with both
Airbellums (Summoned Via Rescue Cat), discard two
cards and then Synchro for Dark Strike Fighter and
by that time my opponent is so far down on resources
that they simply cannot deal with DSF beatingthem
down.
Airbellum also makes a good brawler, as he is able
to take down most basic monstersin battle and can
also reap cards. In a topdeck War, only Rescue Cat
itself is a better topdeck. Basically this guy MADE
the Synchro Cat deck and without him, it would be
nothing. However, with all of the AMAZINGLY BROKEN
X-Saber and XX-Saber cards in Ancient Prophecy, this
guy will lead the charge on a whole new set of
amazing decks that kill in one turn and destroy your
opponent's hand for free! So get to the Sneak Peak
near you to pick up some o' these cards!

Today’s card up for
review is X-Saber Airbellum. Direct me to someone
who thinks this card is bad, and I will punish
them(Just kidding). This guy is so sick and
splashable, it isn’t even funny. The main reason why
this guy is so good is because of Rescue Cat. To be
able to grab two copies off of Cat and having a
Mind/Brain control in hand is devastating and
probably game ending. We should all know how
overpowered the Cat Turbo deck is, and this guy is
the main reason for it. Without it, there wouldn’t
be an easy way to get to 2 Dark Strike Fighters in a
turn and get otk’d. I really hope that Rescue Cat
gets banned on the next banlist so that deck can get
bulldozed. X-Saber without all of the stupid combos
that you can pull off in the Cat deck, is actually
healthy for the game. A hand disruptor and a tuner
is always good, or at least used to be when it comes
to hand disruption. You can make a very fun Hand
control deck, let’s just hope the banlist makes this
game really fun to play again though before you go
and try to do it. Regardless, this guy is a solid
card and can be splashed into quite a few decks.

X-Saber Airbellum ...
He's one of those "so good, he's gonna be restricted
soon" cards ... Why? - The basics - 3 stars, Earth,
1600 ATK ... Beast. That last word is what makes him
lethal. Rescue Cat's new best friend. Not only is he
fairly strong for a level 3, but Airbellum is also a
Tuner monster. Meaning after Rescue Cat calls him
into play, he can synch up with the 2nd target to
form at least a 6 star (Goyo Guardian, anyone?)
Synchro monster. Got 2 other monsters already on the
field? - grab TWO Airbellums and double the Synchro
summoning. On top of all this - if he manages to
score a direct attack on your opponent and inflict
battle damage? - He gets to rip a card from your
hand. So sweet it's chewy.
Yep.

Today we're going to
review one of the cards that has recently made a
huge impact on the TCG and another monster of the
"Saber" series - X-Saber Airbellum. Airbellum was a
popular card in the OCG(Japan) due to the fact they
had it when Premature Burial wasn't banned and they
also had Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Boundary and
Arms Hole. In case you do not know Brionac and Arms
Holes' effects, here they are:
Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Boundary
WATER
Level 6
[Sea Serpent/Synchro/Effect]
1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
Discard any number of cards to the Graveyard. Then,
return the cards from field to its owner's hand
equal to the number of cards discarded.
ATK/ 2300
DEF/ 1400
Arms Hole
Normal Spell Card
Send a card from the top of your Deck to the
Graveyard. Select 1 Equip Spell Card from your Deck
or Graveyard and add it to your hand. You cannot
Normal Summon or Set this turn.
Since Premature Burial does not destroy the monster
it brings back when removed from the field(only when
destroyed), Brionac can keep returning it to the
hand and bringing monsters back, Arms Hole is just a
way to bring Premature to your hand. Japan used this
with Rescue Cat to instantly take control of the
field which is why Premature Burial is banned now.
Rescue Cat used Airbellum and one of various other
beasts such as Des Koala and Neo-Spacian Dark
Panther to summon Brionac. However since we got
Airbellum in the TCG after Premature Burials banning
and since we dont have either Arms Hole or Brionac,
we never really had to worry about being instantly
beaten because we went second and they got the combo
off first, Airbellum really has changed the game
though in just being able to summon off multiple
Synchro Monsters usually in a single turn, being
able to double Synchro off of two copies of
Gravekeeper's Spy or getting a level eight Synchro
monster by using Summoner Monk to get Moja and
Airbellum. Airbellum can be used in many ways, but
will probably remain in Cat Synchro for now unless
some innovated deck comes along and does well.

X-Saber Airbellum....the
heart of the SynCat deck. It does not get any better
than this. Airbellum is the primary target of Rescue
Cat, and can then be easily used to tune up into an
Arcanite Magician or Dark Strike Fighter. Its
1600-attack is solid for a level 3 monster. It
should be able to hold out on its own for at least a
turn against most decks.
As for its effect of discarding everytime it makes a
direct attack, the only drawback is that the attack
has to be direct. Otherwise, we'd be seeing far too
many Sea Koaka + Airbellum combos. Nonetheless, the
discard effect is really just a bonus, as this
card's main purpose to be utilized as a tuner
monster.
Expect to see Rescue Cat be affected in some form
when the next ban-list hits.
This card is difficult to review because it's an
automatic 3-of in Cat Synchro, but not really
suitable anywhere else.
Basically if your deck supports Rescue Cat, you
should play 3. If your deck is GB, you should fit
1-2 for versatility's sake.
I'll be writing future posts at my blog
www.go-YGO.com to discuss the ramifications of
this card in more depth. I can't fit everything into
a concise COTD. Suffice to say this card is
game-changing.
