This week we're taking some time to review some
re-released cards to determine if they are (or
aren't) any good, and we start with The Dark
Creator. As you might have guessed, Dark Creator has
stats similar to The Creator...both being Level 8
monsters of the Thunder type who have 2300 attack
and 3000 defense. Now, despite what this review may
say, Dark Creator isn't a bad card.
Let's start by looking at the attack...2300 for a
Level 8 isn't going to cut it. Now, The Dark Creator
is Special Summoned, and 2300 attack for a Special
Summon is good, but it isn't the most easy thing in
the world to Special Summon either...
However...3000 defense is more than solid, yet
keeping a defense position monster on the Field for
an extended amount of time isn't the easiest thing
to do in the game either...especially with cards
like Shield Crush and Enemy Controller roaming
around.
Next, let's talk about summoning. Obviously, Dark
Creator could only be summoned in the mid to
late-game, as he requires at least five Dark
monsters to be in your Graveyard before he can be
Special Summoned.
Then, each turn, you can remove from play a Dark
monster from your Graveyard, to Special Summon a
separate Dark monster from your Graveyard. Dark
Creator isn't bad...really, he isn't. It works well
with most of the Dark Decks you can build now, but
he just isn't competitive enough.
The Dark Creator was hailed as one of the BIG cards
when it came out, but it just wasn't. It just really
isn't bad, it just didn't fit then, and it still
doesn't fit now I think.

The Dark Creator ...
Interesting. I honestly don't remember if this was
ever reviewed before, but its always fun to take a
look at cards that were introduced a while back and
see how good and relevant they are in today's
playing atmosphere.
First off - his stats - actually not too bad. The
Dark attribute (obviously) makes him super awesome.
3000 DEF - stunning. His ATK at 2300 is a little low
for his level, but seeing as how he's a Special
Summon anyway - tribute costs are irrelevant, plus
his DEF is just sick (close to unbreakable in battle
by 99% of monsters played), so Dark Creator can be
forgiven.
Now for having at least 5 dark monsters in your
grave, he is special summoned, and then by removing
1 dark monster from play, u can special summon 1
dark monster. This never stopped being an awesome
effect. He makes swarming that much more accessible
to a duelist that enlists his services. And the
later in the game that he comes into play, the more
effective he is. By then, ideally - ur opponent will
have spent most of their best resources, and u will
have plenty of darks in ur graveyard. A top deck to
an open field? - there are very few monsters that
would be a more welcome draw, down the line.
If that isn't enough - he's rediculously splashable.
Any deck that employes a heavy amount of dark
monsters can play with him - Fiend, Zombie,
Blackwing, whatever.
His only downside is if u draw him too early, and u
are just waiting to fill your grave with darks in
order to play him. When u are effectively managing
the game and dominating your opponent, chances are u
wont be filling your grave up with too many lost
monsters. That means, ideally - u never WANT to find
yourself in a position where u are actually ABLE to
summon The Dark Creator, much else NEED to summon
him. DC is best served as the Knock Out blow when ur
opponent is already on the ropes, or the as Hail
Mary pass when its all tied up and 10 seconds to go
on the clock.

The Dark Creator….
This card was considered to be Dark Armed Dragon’s
replacement should it ever be limited/banned.
However it has yet to live up to the hype that it
once received. Not only that, it has likely passed
its peek with Allure and Destiny Draw only at 2 now.
With the current main stream decks, the only two
that would consider using Dark Creator is Blackwings,
and Hopeless Dragon. Although, the impact it has on
the deck is much greater on the latter. Hopeless
Dragon’s strategy is to swarm your opponent with 2
or 3 big hitters, leaving your opponent in a deep
hole or ending the game itself. Dark Creator’s
effect works perfectly with that deck’s goal. The
only problem with running Dark Creator in the deck
is that it likely ends up being Allure’d out or used
for Trade-In. But if it is summoned, it can single
handily turn an entire game around.
In Blackwings it’s a bit different, as the deck
isn’t too reliant on bringing out a single big
hitter. Usually if Blackwings can get a swam, they
likely would’ve won already. That basically leaves
Dark Creator useless. But in the late game, this
card really shines through. Dark Creator can revive
a single Blackwing, which can lead to a chain of
summons.
Dark Creator’s summoning condition is manageable,
but not as easy as it once was. And with less people
running Crows, its effect will likely be able to go
off more often then not.

Today’s card up
for review is The Dark Creator. This guy has been
interesting ever since it’s been released, but
nobody has really been able to capitalize on his
powers. The two decks that you would most likely see
him in is the Dragon and OCCG Blackwing deck. He is
rather sick in both just because of the speed that
each deck has. You shouldn’t have a problem dropping
him in either deck. Come next set, Blackwings can
main Dark Grepher so they can capitalize on their
new tuner and Dark Creator, so I can’t wait to see
the potential of that. Outside of those two decks,
you won’t see this guy in use simply because of it’s
rather inconsistent.
