General Zorpa Zombie Mammoth

Welcome to the second week of CSOC commons/random stuff. WE should have some of the great stuff from CRMS to review for you in the upcoming weeks, so look forward to it or else!

This guy I feel is just begging to be used in a combo. First off, 1900 ATK and an EARTH Zombie as far as stats go are great. Not as good as before zombies were destroyed by the list, but enough to pique my interest.

The effect is that if there is no Zombie in the graveyard, the card is destroyed. Not a really good first effect on most cards. Who wants a self-destructing zombie when Cursed Paladin does the job just as well? The second effect is that when it dies, you get burned for it's ATK. Now how, just how is this card good when it's stats are ok and it's effects are all "detrimental"?

The answer is Creature Swap. You swap your Mammoth to them, they take damage and you keep your monster. Not to mention that you can do the same trick with Malevolent Mech Goku-En and the same sort of tricks with Pyramid Turtle and you have the core for a deck.

The card itself is garbage, but you can use it's bad effects well as well as combo with other cards for a zombieish burnish deck. I think that swap zombies has a shot at coming back, we just need to wait and see who will build the best one...

Traditional-1/5
Advanced-1.5/5 (it's a combo card, so outside the combo, it's useless...)
Anteaus Zombie Mammoth

This card may not be the best card in a Zombie deck, but it certainly has its uses. With Plaguespreader Zombie down to one-per-deck, it'll definitely make this card's addition to a Zombie build that much harder to justify, but 1900 ATK is no slouch either. Zombies obviously don't have too many big hitters, aside from their Synchros, so this card could come in handy down the road. However, the -1900 damage you take to your LP hampers anything good this card had. Too high a cost for a semi-decent card.

Zombie Mammoth ...

At 1st look the 1st thing that will probably come to mind is - "What's the point?" ... Another "EARTH" Zombie? ... meh ... We can overlook this recurring-as-of-late annoying pairing choice and jump right into the nitty-gritty - 1900 ATK on a 4-star body is good, but Zombies already have enough sizable attackers that this guy's 1900 isnt reason enough to play him ... It's a tricky effect (which Zombie's love ... usually involving the graveyard somehow) that will earn him a place on the team ...

So we consider the 1900 burn to whomever is controlling him when he gets destroyed ... eh ... I mean, i GET it ... there are several ways of making this work ... but as far as deck type goes - Zombies have tons of tricks and combos already ... combos that allow a large amount of versatility with all its Zombie components, which is what makes them so good ... Zombie Mammoth is so dependent on such a SPECIFIC combo to be useful that you'll only be watering down your deck and resources trying to get ZM to work properly.

I mentioned a Zombie Burn deck last week ... for anyone cavalier enough to try that out? - maybe ZM could be an option .... but for any proven effective standard Zombie build - u don't need Zombie Mammoth ... at all.

N o V a Zombie Mammoth Review:

Zombie Mammoth, a rather interesting card for todays Card of the Day, right? A lot of players I've seen think the card is rather bad due to its self destruction effect, but really its not hard to have a Zombie in the graveyard because Zombie Master is dependant on having a Zombie in the graveyard for its effect to activate. So far you can see it as just a simple beater for Zombies, which is a good thing.

Back when people were worrying about getting over Elemental Hero Stratos and other 1800 ATK monsters, players were dependant on Synchro Summoning out something that could run it over, which in most cases is better, but Zombie Mammoth is a solid 1900 ATK monster that you can normal summon or special summon out with Zombie Master.

This card is an alright, ok beat stick in a Zombie deck, but there are more better choices to go with. Looking at Pyramid Turtle for example, it can grab out Zombie Mammoth sure, but it can also grab cards like Ryu Kokki, and as previously stated Syncho Summoning something big to get over monsters you may not be able to get over, simple as that really.

So really you can find better cards to use but this card is an ok card being searchable from Pyramid Turtle and summoned by Zombie Master, though Paladin of the Cursed Dragon tops Mammoth anyday.
