Dark Paladin
Monday

Holy hell, new cards, and not from Crimson Crisis! It's a fairly good week, so I hope you enjoy it! Trident Dragion, a beastly Synchro Monster, who is Level 10, and of the Fire attribute, making him fairly difficult to summon, but with 3000 attack and 2800 defense.

Trident Dragion is Synchro Summoned specifically with a Dragon-type Tuner monster and one or more non-Tuner Dragon-type monsters...again, pretty specific, so this is obviously only built for hardcore and dedicated Dragon Decks.

Furthermore, this card cannot be Special Summoned excpet by Synchro Summon, and when done so successfully, you can destrou up to two cards you control. During this turn, Trident Dragion can attack one additional time for each card destroyed.

This makes me wonder...first, you need to have some garbage cards on the Field, or you really could be putting yourself into a hole. If the effect were each turn you could sacrifice cards for additional attacks, then we would have some gold.

Why would you play this over Red Dragon Archfiend...you probably wouldn't, even if you are playing the Dragon Deck previously mentioned.
As it stands, I don't see why you would go through all this for just 3000 attack...IF it won you the game in the turn you Synchro Summoned him, maybe...

General Zorpa Trident Dragion

Welcome to RGBT Dragon Week! This week we are looking at all of the biggest, baddest and amazing Dragon cards from the new RBGT expansion. Today's card is Trident Dragon, a Synchro monster. Right away there are a few strikes against this card. A level 10 Synchro is nice as is 3000 ATK and 2800 DEF. This guy could easily kill most monsters in the game. It is a FIRE Dragon, but since it is a Synchro it doesn't matter. The problem is that it has VERY specific Tuning requirements.

Trident Dragon needs a Dragon Tuner as well as a Dragon non-Tuner, so it is extremely hard to summon. The only Dragon Tuner that I know of is Magna Drago, which means that you need a level 8 Dragon to Tuner with it. That is an awful waste of resources at least for stats, as Red Dragon Archfiend can do the same thing for a level 8 investment in a Synchro.

Now for the effects. It starts of bad, you cannot Special Summon him except for Synchro Summon, which keeps shenanigans like what happens with Colossal Fighter and Stardust Dragon from happening. Then, when it comes into play, you can destroy up to two cards you own. Wow, not so good either. But then he gets to attack for every card you destroyed as well as his normal attack. That means that this guy is packing 9000 points of damage!

All in all he is far too hard to even Summon that he can't really be used at any point competitively and his effect, though good, is too costly to ever really use outside of an awkward OTK. Great Art though.

Today’s card up for review is Trident Dragion. So we have our first 10 star synchro eh? Well, he is exclusive to a Dragon themed deck, so this card may be for you if you use that type of deck. I personally don’t see much of a point in using him to be honest. If you have the extra resources available for use, then this guy could be powerful. I personally will never see this effect go off though, if you can do it, kudos to you! Unless you can create some tokens or some other way to use the effect, I do not see much of a point.

We start the week off with a card from the recent set, "Raging Battle". Trident Dragion is todays Card of the Day. The highest level Synchro monster out there being level ten. You can only Synchro Summon this card, unlike previous Synchro monsters. You also must use a Dragon-Type Tuner monster and one or more non-Tuner Dragon-Type monsters. Limiting this card to just dragon themed decks.

This monster has solid stats and not being a Light-Attributed or Dark-Attributed monster means it can get around "Light-Imprisoning Mirror" and "Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror". When its Synchro Summoned, you can destroy up to two cards you control, and for each card destroyed by this effect, it gets an additional attack. If your opponent doesn't have any cards to stop Trident Dragion, it can end the duel with three attacks.

You may also think that being such a high level Synchro monster, that it would be hard to summon, but lets relook at the possibilities. The more popular and playable dragon based deck, Hopeless Dragon, is built around "Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon" and its ability to basically swarm out as many heavy hitting dragon monsters as possible. "Dark Horus" is the more popular dragon to summon out due to it being a 3000 attack level eight dragon monster. Well add a level two Dragon-Type Tuner monster to that and you have Trident Dragion, and fortunately we have a level two Dragon-Type Tuner, "Magna Drago".

Well, as you can see this card cant really be used in mainstream decks like Gladiator Beasts or Lightsworns(unless Lightsworns for some reason teched "Magna Drago"). Even being able to be easily summoned in Hopeless Dragon decks, doesn't really mean it is a good card to use. There are better options out there, so I dont see this card seeing much play.

Trident Dragon ...

Flat out - this is my favorite card of the new set. Its the one i've been pining for ever since i heard it was coming out ...

It's stats - 3000 ATK, 2800 DEF ... almost unkillable by any monster outside its effect ... the Fire attribute? I'm neither here nor there on it ... it's not as good Light or Dark ... or even Earth ... but its respectable and probably the best one after that ... yeah, even better than Water. I'm just sayin, is all ...

Now his effect? ... well this is what i like about him - it virtually reads "Finish this match NOW". It's not a complicated set up either for this OTK. It just does what it does. If u can swing at a clear field while popping 2 of your own cards, that's game. even if they had their full 8000 LP. C'mon! u know EVERYBODY wants to do this at least ONCE in their dueling life! U dont even require that Heavy Storm or Giant Trunade opener ... just 1 of the 3 Cold Waves u should be playing in this deck should start u off nicely, and then go from there! Pop 2 of your own now frozen spells and traps, and blow your opponent to bits!

A card this awesome should come at a specific price, and it does. Sadly, Trident Dragon doesnt play well with others. He's a 10 f'n starred Synchro, for one. And for next - he can only be created with a Dragon type Tuner, which are limited enough as is, and then only with Dragon type non tuner monsters ... needless to say, it's not gonna be EASY to get him out ... but it is doable, and he really only sees fit to be played with a Dragon type deck, (yes, with the great amount of Synchro monsters to choose from now, and only a limited amount of space in the Extra deck, u do have to be selective)
Although, if, for whatever reason, u play with a bunch of DNA Surgeries (or Transplants ... i forget which), u can thens still make a case for including a Trident Dragon as well.

I see him one day being banned down the road once people start abusing him and everyone else starts to copy.

Oh, and his picture is SICKNESS!

Cataclismic Trident Dragion

It's such a pity. I had this whole review typed up on how it gave players another out to Stardust Dragon, along with Brain/Mind Control, how it would be the auto-in to any extra deck because of this, and a nice big 4 at the end of the review. But then I took a second look, and saw that it has to be a Dragon-type tuner, and I cried a little inside.

A few tissues later, and I decided just to look at the card itself, to figure out whether you could actually use this to it's full potential. And it does have rather a lot of potential, just look at it. 3000 attack, triple attacker. Get the attacks in and it's game. Having a built in game over button is nice, and will certainly make a lot of players stand up and take notice. It certainly made me take notice.

So, how would you go about getting this guy out? Debris Dragon is the first thing that springs to mind. But problems arise there. Either you have to have a Horus Lv6 or similar already on the field, or a level 4 Dragon and a Totem Dragon/Decoy Dragon in the grave. Magno Drago is an option, but that requires Stardust/RDA/Tyrant Dragon/Horus Lv8/Blue Eyes/etc. Either way, you're putting a lot of resources into getting it out.

And there in lies the problem. You use all these cards to get it out, and you still need to find a way, with your now depleted pool of cards, to get 3 direct attacks through. The chances of you being able to wipe their field, and get this guy out, and have 2 other cards to destroy, is so low, it's simply not worth it.

You want OTK, go for Explosion. You want Dragons, go for Hopeless Dragon. You want both, take a time machine back to Cyber-Stien.
