Defender, the Magical Knight, a Light attributed,
Level 4, Spellcaster monster with 1600 attack (not
terrible) and 2000 defense (awesome).
Here we have a nice little gem for the Spellcaster
player, but let's look at why.
When this card is Normal Summoned, you place a Magic
Counter on it.
Once per turn, if a face-up Spellcaster-type
monster(s) you control would be destroyed, you can
remove one Magic Counter from a card you control for
each of those monsters instead.
What do we have in this Deck that can help with
this...Magical City of Endymion, the Field Magic
card we opened the week with, that's right.
In defense mode (2000) Defender (no pun intended)
can actually hold his own for a while. This is
great, if forces your opponet to destroy your
monsters, or waste destruction cards until you run
out of Counters...
When this card is Normal Summoned, place 1 Spell
Counter on it (max. 1).

Today’s card up for review is Defender, the
Magical Knight. This card is very eh to me. It has
potential, but you need the game to last a little
bit so you can build your counters up. If you can do
that, try this card out, it can give you time to
help set up some combos.

Defender, the Magical
Knight …
Kinda reminds me of Breaker’s little brother … Seems
like he would be a warrior monster, but he’s not …
Anyway – I like him. What’s good about him? – Well a
1600 ATK isn’t MISERABLE for a 4-star monster. It
can fight with a thing or two and maybe live to be
tributed later on down the line for something better
… He’s better in his 2000 DEF mode though. Very
solid stats. (There aren’t many 4-star monsters
whose combined ATK & DEF = 3600 or more! … I’m just
saying!) Anyways – Defender is also Light
attributed, another bonus in his book.
Getting to the effect – He gets a counter when he’s
normal summoned, and that counter can protect one or
multiple Spellcasters if they are about to be
destroyed. Now THAT is pretty sick protection! Most
specifically that “s” on the end, meaning that
Torrential Tribute, Lightning Vortex or whatever
else your opponent may employ that snuffs clusters
of monsters in 1 strike won’t be effective, so long
as Defender has a counter to block it with. And
since it doesn’t specify “effect” damage, it can be
used to save a monster from being destroyed in
battle too. Neat? I certainly think so.
His only real downside is that he only has a max of
1 counter at a time. Meaning he can save u only once
on your opponent’s turn … (unless u’ve got the
Citadel up and it’s loaded with counters) … and u
would have to keep recycling those counters to keep
him effective.
But he’s a good card.

N o V a
Defender, the Magical
Knight. An awesome looking card and a new "Breaker"
looking card, its cool. When its Normal Summoned it
gets a Spell Counter and it can have 1 max. Once a
turn if one or more Spellcaster monsters would be
destroyed you can remove a Spell Counter from a card
you control for each of those monsters instead.
Comboing it with Magical Citadel of Endymion makes
for an awesome card here. With a decent attack of
1600 and a strong defense of 2000.
Its got a nice effect and decent stats, its also a
LIGHT attributed monster. Honest anyone?
Disenchanter and Defender are both light attribute
monsters and there are various other light
Spellcaster monsters out there like Lyla, Lightsworn
Sorceress. Defender in a deck full of LIGHT
attributed Spellcasters, I can see the deck having
potential.

Defender, the Magical
Knight:
Defender has good stats I guess. The fact that you
need to normal summon him hurts the card a lot. His
max 1 spell counter hurts a lot too. He can protect
himself with his own effect, which is pretty nice. I
guess he was meant to be combined with Magical
Citadel of Endymion but he seems a little too
reliant on it. If he was something like 1800/1800 he
would be a much better card.
