Yay! We have really dregged this set for all it is
worth, so now we have crap rare week! Anyway, Star
blast is a Normal Spell that when activated will
make you pay lifepoints in multiples of 500. For
each 500 paid, you then get to reduce the level of a
monster in your hand or on the field by 1 level.
Obviously this was meant to make Synchro Summoning
easier, but it kinda failed. Managing the levels of
your monsters is only good when it gives you a
tactical advantage. An example would be A Legendary
Ocean. You just really have no need to use this card
in order to do what it was designed to do.
It's other use is to lower a monster so that it can
be Normal Summoned without tribute. But we already
have a card that does that in Mausoleum of the
Emperor which is searchable by Terraforming and
stays on the field.
Basically there is no reason at all in order to play
this card.

Star Blast …
I flat out love Spell Cards like this. Simple
straightforward effects. U understand it. U know
what to do with it. Star Blast is a good card. Why?
“Reduce the level of a monster u control” –
Sometimes u have a big monster that u would like to
Synchro with a weaker Tuner to get out something
more useful – maybe that Black Rose Dragon or
Stardust? – Star Blast is the answer. “Reduce the
level of a monster that is in your hand” – You’re
holding a big monster with no tributes to summon it?
– Star Blast is the answer. Hell, if someone, for
some reason ever whips out a Gravity Bind on u … (heh,
heh, heh … “whips out” …) – Star Blast is the
answer.
Simple and effective. If u play monsters …
especially those that are level 5 or more … Star
Blast can come in handy. The more big monsters u
play – the more useful it becomes.

Star Blast, an
interesting card to start off the week. Possibly a
better Cost Down. By paying any number of life
points in multiples of 500, you can reduce the level
of a monster in your hand by 1 for each 500 points
paid until the end of the turn. When I look at this
card I see the most any player paying as 2000. Level
8 monsters knocking off 4 levels would obviously
turn out to be a cost of 2000 life points. Back when
Dark Magician of Chaos was running around and
whatnot, this would have helped. There are a lot of
good high level monsters out there, and this card
can help get them on the field fast.
Now when you think about it, this card would require
at least 1500 life points for a 2-tribute monster.
Personally I'd rather use Mausoleum of the Emperor
over this card. Only cause Star Blast is a 1 time
card, while Mausoleum is an unlimited effect that
comes with an equal cost for the most part.

This is my first review, and I'm happy to have a
chance to do this. I will try my best lol... Ok to
the review.
This is basically for getting out a high level
monster out with one tribute, or for syncing
something that needs a lower level. The Life Point
payment can be quite high if you plan to reduce the
level by a lot, but the benefits can also be
enormous. Imagine, any two-tribute monster for no
tributes... You can also combo this card with
various cards that work with levels, such as Opti-Camouflage
Armor or Gravity Bind. It is basically a single-use
Mausoleum of the Emperor that doesn’t allow your
opponent to use it. It gives some support to unused
two-tribute monsters. However, I do not see this
card having much competitive use, except in some
rogue OTK deck.
Traditional-1.5/5 I only see one way of abusing
it-getting out catapult turtle for that scientist
FTK.
Advanced-2.8/5 I see potential, but with the current
meta, I do not see it being played competitively.
Art-4/5 Can't go wrong with Luster Dragon.

There's no doubting that Star Blast is an
interesting card with good intentions. It aims to
lower the investment that one must put into the
summon of a high-level monster, bringing them into
the game quicker.
However, like a broken needle, it's completely
missing the point. Let's look at the most used
tribute monsters in the game. The monarchs –
Pointless with this card as they won't gain their
effects. Celestia, Lightsworn Angel – See the
problem with the monarchs. Gorz – If you even
consider using it with Star Blast, go see a brain
surgeon for any spare grey matter they have in the
trash because you need all the help you can get.
Sirocco – How often will you actually need to
tribute for it?
Obviously, you will have to look for other options
for Star Blast. Light and Darkness Dragon springs to
mind, and normally I'd championing the use of LaDD,
but there is a serious problem with that. Lightsworn
exist. Prime Material Dragon might be useful, but
the existence of the big, bad Synchro team, boasting
their massive attack values, kinda limits his
usefulness. Vanity's Fiend might stop all the
special summoning antics, but falls to all
destruction.
Yes, you might be able to save some advantage by
using this to get out a level 7 or 8 monster, but
you know what? It just isn't worth it.

Monday
Star Blast opens the week, an interesting little
Magic card that probably won't see any play
ever...this seems to be "Craptacular Rares"
week, but we've really looked at a LOT of this set,
the good and bad, so bear with us.
Star Blast lets you pay 500 Lifepoints per the
number of Levels you want to reduce a monster on
your Field or from your Hand...this is good until
the End Phase and I see maybe two uses here.
The first being that I'm guessing to make tribute
monsters more easy to summon, but there isn't a lot
of that going on with tribute monsters right now.
Secondly, I'm guessing the main use here is to make
monsters more easy to Synchro Summon, but I don't
really see a use for either of these here with this.

Star Blast:
Star Blast is basically a one-time Mausoleum. Pay
500 summon a Sirocco without Tributing. Pay 1000
summon something like Jinzo. The main purpose of
this card is in Fish OTK decks, where you pay 1500
to summon Deepsea King then spam Synchros. The
problem with this card is it's a Normal Spell. Sure
you pay less compared to Mausoleum, but Mausoleum
can be searched out by cards like Terraforming.
