Phoenix Gearfried
#SWDS-EN001
When your
opponent activates a Spell Card, you can select 1
Gemini Monster from your Graveyard and Special
Summon it. Also, you can send 1 face-up Equip Card
you control to the Graveyard to negate the
activation of a Spell or Trap Card that targets a
monster on the field and destroy it.

Phoenix Gearfried ...
I always liked the Gearfried monsters .... They
never took off, but they were always kinda cool. And
PG is no exception. He's a Gemini, which is a new
twist for him, but it affords him certain
advantages. The major one being that it can benefit
from all the cards that support normal monsters.
That's a good thing. Then it gets its effect, and
its a pretty good one ... or two. The first allows
for special summoning any Gemini monster from your
grave (the ressurection effect u would expect from
something with Phoenix in the name), and then the
second allows u to negate spells or trap that target
monsters by dropping an equipped spell card ...
which if u are playing a Gearfried deck, u are
already accustomed to having plenty available.
I dont know what to say. It sounds like a lot of
fun, and could be challenging to opponents in the
right build ... but overall, i think the Gearfried's
are just too slow. The resurrection is nice. It'll
help u swarm. But being a Gemini requires a 2nd
summon. That's the 1st speed bump. Next u need a
healthy crop of equip spells to be functioning right
... PG is strong, and he CAN protect ... but he is
still just destined to be wrecked by far superior
decks. Let's call him a good addition to an average
deck type.

Today is the headliner
of the Warriors Strike Structure Deck, Phoenix
Gearfried. Like all gemini monsters its treated as a
normal monster in hand, field and graveyard till
second summoned on the field. Phoenix Gearfried when
second summoned allows you to special summon one
gemini monster in your graveyard when the opponent
activates a spell card, and you can send a face up
equip spell card you control to negate the
activation of a spell or trap that targets a monster
on the field and destroy it. Wow thats quite the
mouth full really and its a pretty interesting
effect. Most spell and traps dont target these days
so the second effect wont help so much. The first
effect however gives a big boost to all gemini
monsters. Its interesting because you can dump 2
Phoenix Gearfried for Future Fusion, revive one with
something, second summon it and when the opponent
plays a spell you get the second one. Superalloy
Beast Raptinus may become a very popular monster now
that gemini monsters got a big boost. Phoenix
Gearfried in my opinion will be a must for any
gemini based deck and Raptinus makes it much better.

Phoenix Gearfried
Here we have Phoenix Gearfried, Today's Card of the
Day.
This card is treated as a
Normal Monster while face-up on the field or in the
Graveyard. While this card is face-up on the field,
you can Normal Summon it to have it be treated as an
Effect Monster with this effect:
● When your opponent activates a Spell Card, you can
select 1 Gemini Monster from your Graveyard and
Special Summon it. Also, you can send 1 face-up
Equip Card you control to the Graveyard to negate
the activation of a Spell or Trap Card that targets
a monster on the field and destroy it.
This card wants to be good, it really does. Solid
stats and effects that sound like they might do
something game changing. Then we remember how good
Dark Horus was and we cry because we lied to
ourselves. The summoning something when your
opponent activates a magic card trick just doesn’t
cut it. This card has so many conditional
restrictions and effects that the chance you’ll be
able to get its effect off is too minimal. Sure you
could equip supervise to this thing, but the reality
is that unlike gigaplant or il blud, you really
won’t be getting a return on your investment. He’s
not horrible per se, but for being a cover card for
the Gemini/warrior I guess it could have been
better. Oh well it seems lately if a card has
gearfried in the name it’s better to avoid it all
together.
